In 2020 when the pandemic hit, it devastated the physical therapy industry, and I lost my job. I thought I had lost the chance to own my own home and my dream of being a rehab director. I spiraled into a deep depression where I couldn’t get out of bed except to go to the bathroom for weeks, and remained nearly unfunctional for months. One Piece is the thing that got me back on my feet. Luffy says to Koby “I decided a long time ago that I was gonna be King of the Pirates. And if that means I die fighting for it, then I die.” In some crazy way it gave me the courage to pursue my dream despite the massive setback. And a year later I achieved it in rather unconventional ways that I had never thought possible. The show is infectious. Bon Voyage, girls. This will be one hell of a journey. (To clarify one thing: Yes. These are all different scenes and islands and places from the show. The difference in animation and drawing is because of how the show has evolved since it first aired until now, plus some of these scenes were from movies, which tend to have higher budgets since they're just 2h they can go ham on.)

A few things to know before beginning your One Piece journey: 1. Do not read the episode titles, as they often spoil the actual episode. There really aren't many people who are “anime-only” in Japan, at least when it comes to One Piece, as pretty much everyone there reads this manga. As such the episode titles are there mostly to let the audience know which part of the manga is being adapted this week. So if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read the episode titles. 2. As a "continuous run" shonen series, there will be a lot of material used to pad out the run time. Go into the series expecting potential pacing issues, such as lots of flashbacks and recaps (especially at the beginnings of episodes), copious reaction shots, and some filler episodes here and there. I highly recommend looking in the comments section of each episode to know when the title card is so you can skip all the "last time" recap, and there are lists online indicating which episodes are filler and thus skippable (though be sure to watch the G8 arc after Skypiea). It's not as bad as DBZ (we don't get Luffy screaming for 5 episodes straight) or Naruto (no string of what feels like 100 straight episodes of filler). But there will be some pacing issues that seasonal anime usually doesn't have, so just know it's gonna happen up front and set expectations accordingly. 3. One Piece WILL make you cry. I don't care how stoic you think you are. You might be the most macho man ever and I guarantee you that One Piece will make you cry manly, manly tears. There is no shame in it. Anyone who has watched through a significant portion of the show and claims to have not cried is either a dirty filthy liar or is without a soul. 4. There is nearly nothing in this existence more cathartic than watching Luffy finally punch someone what REALLY needed punching. You will come to recognize and accept this. 5. Do not think of One Piece's extreme length as a barrier to entry. One Piece is one of the most bingeable anime ever created, like crack in anime form, and you will be glad that there is so much of it for you to experience. This story is literally a journey where the fun and enjoyment is embarking and experiencing it to its fullest. 6. Ignore anyone who tells you that you have to "get through" the beginning or that the story doesn't "get good" until episode XXX. One Piece is a fun and entertaining show right from the start and you will have a good time with it from episode 1. The only reason why long-time fans say stuff like that is because the show gets SO good as it goes on that the beginning of the series seems like trash when compared to where the story ends up. So don't go in thinking that you'll have to slog your way through 20-30 episodes just to get to the "good part". It's good from the start and only gets better. 7. One Piece is weird. Seriously, there will be parts of this show that the only explanation for what the hell you're watching will be "it's One Piece", and that will be a perfectly understandable explanation to anyone else who has watched enough of the show. 8. One Piece is NOT a kids' show. Sure, it looks like a goofy and fantastical adventure featuring gimmicky pirates, and the main character is almost literally a loony toon. That is all a clever ruse. This show hits deep and hard, and covers weighty topics and themes that no kid's cartoon here in America ever would. I mean, yeah, it is a goofy adventure with gimmicky pirates, but it is so much more than that. Do not show this to your kids unless you're sure they can handle some serious shit.

while I'm with you as a fellow lover of one piece I will say that oftentimes our definition of "a fair chance" is pretty unfair in itself. I don't think the early episodes with their incredibly low budget 90's visuals and their overly long recaps and "next time on" sequences (which leave about 10 minutes of teasing content per episode) are at all conducive to new viewers. By that time in the anime, you really get an understanding of the character development and the emotional discourse behind each character. The most famous scene, the very one that Emily Rudd nailed, where she is screaming out "ARLONG" and stabbing herself is such a powerful scene. If that doesn't capture your attention, you probably won't be enamored for a while. The storytelling trumps every other flaw in the early East Blue saga and sets the demeanor for the rest of the journey. All the scenes are indeed taken from the anime as well as feature films and filler content. The art style is quite different because it’s been going for 25 years and it’s had different art directors. Also, some portions of the story were reanimated to make movie versions of the arcs in which they consolidated the story . I saw farmers revolting against an oppressive Peruvian government in 2018 on my way back from Machu Picchu and walked fifteen kilometers through the Andes from town to town because the only road was shut down. Many shots are from the anime, many from the movies. As you come from AOT, you will feel a drastic shift (not to say decline) in amination quality. No other anime of that magnitude has that excellent storytelling, world building, foreshadowing and emotional impact. No doubt you will love it!

The art style does change over time since it started airing in like the year 2000 I think. Especially later in the series they tend to do an art style change every arc. One Piece is the only story I've experienced that has made me sit back and ask "how did someone write this?". It's good from the start but once you have a few arcs behind you, you'll start to feel the way each arc reverberates throughout the next, and the way the next arcs add context to the previous arcs and make you see things differently. One recent twist, the writer literally waited 14 years to pay off a small detail that no one thought anything of 500+ chapters ago. It's fucking crazy

I've been caught up for years but wtf this video made me also get hyped up and want to watch it again lol. I really took the one piece world for granted. It is so vast and so unique and so amazing when it needs to be so funny and ridiculous when it wants to be, grand, epic, mysterious, dangerous, just everything from a single man? "Oda is a genius" is an understatement. So many references so many inspirations and done all so well with his own Twists and takes. Wow Compared to any other fictional writer in the world oda clearly stands at the top. Tolkien and others are great but they didn't have the edge in drawing the actual fucking story like a mangaka needs to, his world building is so vast and appealing, his characters all so unique. Oda is the best fictional story teller in the history of humanity from what I can see. No one has told a story this vast, grand, funny, epic, thrilling, adventurous and they have never done in the medium he does(which is literal visualization through a manga) Man I wish him good health so he can take us to the end of this epic the way he intended it to be.

Almost every last scene is from the show and the art style continuously improves and there will be points it'll be very noticable. Make sure to enjoy to journey as it happens for the first time. If I could go back and rewatch the anime for the first time over again, I totally would. You're about to go on an emotionally charged rollercoaster and it'll be the best ride of your life, storywise :)

I know this is a late comment, but I just wanted to type it out of appreciation for the YT channel, "StrawHat V" whose video got taken down recently by the newly created One Piece English Channel, but still, in the longest running history of OP edits and compilations, no one has ever come close to making this great depiction of OP anime for this long video length.

Ooooh, I got teary eyed from watching your excitement. It reminded me of myself when I first watched all those fantastic, mind-blowing scenes. I started watching One Piece as a kid when it was first broadcasted on TV. I'm still a die-hard fan of this Anime. You got me hooked with your genuine reactions. Looks like you first watched the Netflix live action, so I'm going to check that out first.

One Piece has the best world building in all of Anime and remains consistent to this day. This is only one aspect of it, there's still the battle, the comedy, and the saddest backstories for you to explore. Welcome to the world of One Piece!❤

One Piece is an incredible story. I started reading the manga and watching the anime when it first arrived in my country (France) in 2000 and instantly fell in love with it. That was 24 years ago. I was a young teenager, now I'm a man in my late 30s and still very much in love with it. You won't regret getting on board this crazy adventure. This might be the greatest story ever told. Enjoy the ride!

One of the main things that make One Piece so special is, is that the world itself is another character, not just scenery, but rather something actually alive.

As well, the world doesn’t just revolve around Luffy. He does make some major changes to the world due to his actions, but even when he doesn’t some major changes will happen without him.

Listen, the live action is a FANTASTIC intro for people who never wanted to start the journey of 1000+ episodes, but it couldn't possibly recreate how lush and dense the One Piece world actually is. One Piece is arguably the best story ever told, not just in anime, but in all fiction, and a part of that is Oda's ability to world build. I love this video because it showcases just how many different islands, cultures, and concepts there are to explore. Can't wait for ya'll to start watching!

When I caught up in 2015, i couldn't put it down. I was staying up until 3am and falling asleep at work. You're going to love it. The heart is always there, even in the filler. Often, it's only redeeming quality. Have fun with it! There were lots of shots from various movies, but that's a fair portrayal of what to expect by once you've put in a few hundred hours of watch time. The movies are good too.

As a One Piece fan who got into it in the early 2000's and who got kind of bullied for years for reading mangas and watching anime (though not as harsh as others I've heard of), I get really happy watching people discovering the wonders of One Piece! KZbin suggested me this video and I didn't know the video you reacted two, nor did I know you. Imho, in my position, it's quite sad that as a new watcher I have no idea who you guys are - there's barely an introduction and it's easy to miss, that you haven't watch the anime - yet you know about One Piece and can recognize e.g. Zoro. If not for the suggested video of your live action reaction on the right, I'd be completely confused on how you'd know Zoro has three swords. Nevertheless, I'm in for the ride to rewatch One Piece with you guys! The video also hyped me up!

I'm genuinely so excited to see yalls reactions, this has been my favorite show for years and seeing new people come to love the show just makes me so incredibly happy, I know yall will enjoy the hell out of this show, but I feel I should warn you guys, not that yall aren't already aware, but you WILL cry, so make sure to have a bunch of tissue near by, and definitely don't blink, there's hidden messages everywhere, oda, the creator, is amazing at hiding important sub plots and mysteries. Besides that, buckle in, I've watched many anime, and this could just be me, but one piece is a master piece in my humble opinion, it has a little of everything and is so deep and detailed that it feels like it could truly be another world out there. So, have fun ladies, I can't wait to see yalls reactions!!!

Please make sure you watch EVERYTHING start at the beginning and dont skip any episodes, everything ties in together and even the details that seem to be unimportant sometimes pop back up later on. Enjoy it because right now there are no end series spoilers, nobody except Oda knows what the one piece is, once its revealed thr series will never be as it is right now. Hope y'all ready for the emotional Rollercoaster One Piece is going to take u! Animation gets better as u go on due to technology as it did come out 1999. Though the story line and world building carries it nicely. 90 percent of the world you saw is on the anime, besides some movie scenes. Side note: A lot of the One piece world and culture's is based on our world. Makes it more fun in my opinion. Of course besides the sky islands 😂
