A New Option for GERD & Acid Reflux Treatment w/ Dr. Spencer Payne | BackTable ENT Podcast Ep. 156

In this episode, Dr. Spencer Payne, a rhinologist at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, shares his journey developing RefluxRaft, a natural, alginate-based reflux therapy, with host Dr. Ashley Agan.
First, Dr. Payne describes how his research interests and father’s premature death spurred his interest in functional medicine. Wary of side effects associated with conventional reflux medications, he teamed up with fellow UVA faculty member and laryngologist Dr. James (Jim) Daniero to develop RefluxRaft, a natural dietary supplement. Starting from his initial concept, Dr. Payne delves into challenges marketing, manufacturing, and distributing RefluxRaft. He then explains how RefluxRaft uses alginates to combine with stomach acid and form a gel-like “raft” that stops movement of acid into the esophagus. The episode concludes with an overview of how to dose and order RefluxRaft.

😭😭 I just want this cough to go away. Ive had it for 2 mths! I have been on a new PPI and cut everything out of my diet. I tried incorporating a couple of things the last couple of days and whatever I had today has been coughing nonstop again. I keep feeling congested deep in nt chest 1:13 Its miserable! I just want my quality of life back😢 hoping to get some answers at my endoscopy next week

I’m in the same boat. Year 3 dealing with with this I don’t acid reflux unless I eat really spicy or drink alcohol but I do still have the throat clearing hoping to fix it by eoy. 1 month using reflux raft

I have a hiatus hernia and gastritis suffer so much with acid reflux

I have a Lapband but most of the fluid has been removed. Can you do a video for Lapband pt. I’m on the Reflux Raft and has controlled my sever reflux. I have been on Protonic 80 mg for years. I have severe post nasal drip and hacking. My ENT gave me a very good rx nasal spray and put me on the raft

RefluxRaft did not work for me. As soon as I lay down the raft floats to the top and the acid sneaks under the raft and goes straight for the esophagus. It's a flawed theory unless you can sleep standing or sitting up.

I think they expect you to sleep on an incline/upper body elevated, not lying flat
