A New Stage Lighting Visualizer? L8 CE Reviewed (L8 Community Edition)

Great video, but as a DJ with some experience with lighting, I am now looking for a visualized that is best suited for my limited number of lights. Can you recommend what would be the best suited visualized to use with SoundSwitch, and some Chauvet GigBar Move + ILS fixtures, with some other lights like intimidator movers, derbys, pars, and uplights? I don't see me needing any more that 1 universe for most of my setups... worse case may be going to 2 universes, but that would be a very special case.

Just a heads up. You can spread the lights on as many universes you want, till you have used up as many fixtures that is allotted. The 2 universes are for the lighting control output within this software to use as a controller.

you mean, if i use GrandMA 2 on L8 i can add any number of fixture on the soft or i still stuck with the number of universes ?

Dave nice review and short overview. You didn’t mention if it runs on both Mac and PC but I guess I could check it out on my own. Would this be a good alternative for your run a “visualizer with DMXIS” tutorial? And how is their fixture profile support? Thanks again for Another informative video!

Fixture support is good. I requested one, and it was ready within a couple of days. Sure, it can be used with DMXis as well

@@LearnStageLighting Thanks for your answer ! But I meant a soft that lets you design the 3d Stage, musicians and everything else on stage so you can import that 3d model into the L8 CE so you see the complete scene. I hope I made myself clear now. Thanks again!!!

So far, it seems so, yes. I haven't found anything that wasn't right. Just like other visualizers, they work off the fixture manual - so if the light's manual is correct, the visualizer will be.

I have a Chauvet an-2 and a 512s dongle. Could I output DMX via the dongle and use the AN-2 to transmit DMX to L8 via ShowXpress? Or would a loopback adapter work?

If for exemple i have 86 fixtures on a stage, but some of the fixture are viper and aura (take a lot of DMX channel) do i have to buy the L8 CE2 ? or a better one ? (cause for the moment i stuck with the GrandMA 3D visualiser but i want something more beautiful)

I believe you do need CE2 for that as long as you can keep it within (4) DMX universes (which should be doable)

@@LearnStageLighting i got a problem .. can't connect my GrandMA 2 onPC console to the visualizer cause i need the 1500€ media version (i think) ... but second problem, i buy my L8 CE2 license before knowing i nned the media one :/

This is such a clever visuliser :DD designs are really cool but the best for me has to be the visual effects :D did you do it yourself? Where did you get the design from??? :))

It's roughly designed off the demo file that comes with Onyx, but it's a pretty generic live music rig.

If it's on the same PC, install the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" and send Art-Net or sACN to L8 via that. The details of the L8 side are in their manual, but I also do have videos and support available for it inside of Learn Stage Lighting Labs: www.learnstagelighting.com/labs

Cannot understand how L8 could be a good software ... no demo, fixture creator is only in a 400$ version (and it's hidden on website, named "profile creator" to add confusion) and just disconnecting a hard disk disable licence that can only be reset by an email ! No doubt it could be an interesting software but it's a business model and way of managing that is underaged, even Steinberg is best now ... and I think that you could give this kind of information because it's part of software quality.

For anyone who is considering purchasing this product please be aware, I had to learn this lesson the hard way. If you buy a CE license and 2 years down the road your HD crashes like mine YOU ARE FU¢KED! you cannot reinstall the software because the license key you previously paid for will show as already activated. If you try to reach out to the company for support they will simply reply and tell you support ended a year from the purchase date and you will need to buy a new license. Yes Capture Polar costs more but if you need to keep buying a license to use a utility you have already paid for there isn't much of a savings.
