I bought a cute sun hat at a street festival once, even though I'm not a hat person. I could see myself wearing it with a sundress on a cruise, or by the pool. So I've brought it on most of my cruises since then, where it hangs on a hook on a wall the whole time. (I do use the hooks I bring, at least! 😁). I finally stopped bringing it the last couple of cruises. 😁

Not confiscated but my husband had a complete tool set with him when we arrived for our cruise having just help someone move. He realized he couldn't take it on board and asked an employee in the terminal what his options were. She told him she'd take it and would be there when we disembarked. He wasn't sure he'd ever see them again, but there she was waiting in the terminal to hand over his tool set.

Carnival's preferred policy to place used room service plates on a tray in the hallway is not a good decision on their part. Passengers with mobility issues using wheelchairs, scooters or power chairs will not be able to move through the hallways unhindered by items blocking the hallways. In addition, in the event of an emergency, hallways being blocked present a hazard to all cruise passengers.
@charyperez6159 Жыл бұрын
When we went on our cruise to Bermuda, we brought walkie talkies and noticed that we could sometimes hear the cruise staff talking on them during their work shifts. They were discussing items needed in rooms or transporting food from one place to another. Perhaps the ban on the walkie talkies is to keep the airways free as the crew use them to communicate with one another.

As an amateur radio operator, I’ve wanted to bring a handheld radio and antenna so I could sit on my balcony and work one of the amateur satellites or the International Space Station as they fly over. It’s always been prohibited. But then I’d just get irritated as heck when I’d see families roaming around with cheap FRS radios and wonder why they could have radios and I couldn’t.

We used walkies when our girls were younger. My husband called it the electric leash. Yes, you can go hang with your new friends, but you’d better let us know where you’re going… and if you don’t answer when dad calls then you get to stay right with us from then on. Worked like a charm and we’re still friends with the parents of some of the kids they befriended :) (of course this was pre messaging apps)

Another possible reason for some cruise lines banning walkie-talkies, is that the frequencies used by the FRS radios bought in the United States, may not be legal to use in some of the countries the cruise ship is visiting. In some cases, they may even interfere with local public safety, radio frequencies.

FRS radios aren't the issue it's the higher powered GMRS and particularly the Chinese (eg. BAOFENG) radios that will cause trouble particularly in the hands of those unqualified to operate them correctly!
@DavidWood2 Жыл бұрын
@@robinbrook5624 Just because a radio works does not make the operation legal. I can buy radios from Amazon that I can readily fire up on frequencies that I am not licenced to use - or use them on amateur frequencies and use someone else's legitimate callsign if I didn't have one of my own (I have a UK Amateur licence), but such operation would be illegal and might be disrupting the legitimate users of the frequency. The safe thing is to stick to using your mobile phone, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth equipment. Such equipment carries what is essentially worldwide approval, though cellular service is, of course, subject to you being a customer of the network you want to use or your home network having a roaming agreement with the network you want to use.

Game consoles and streaming sticks can be brought and used on the ships. You just also need to pack a universal remote, so you can change the input on the TV. On Carnival, you actually have to unplug the ethernet cable before the TV allows you to change inputs. On Celebrity, changing inputs worked without doing this. It probably has more to do with the TV brand than the cruise line, though.

You can still message people who are on your contact list, including people onshore! I was told this by the Internet person on an NCL ship, and I've tested it successfully on NCL Ships. It works great, as long as you are connected to the ship wifi. I have not tested this on any other cruise line.

My wife used to bring workout weights on our cruises. On one cruise her suitcase didn't arrive at our stateroom when mine arrived, so we called and discovered that her suitcase had been taken to the "naughty" room on Deck 2. When we visited that room, which was wall to wall with suitcases and had a long queue to enter, we learned that it was those weights that had concerned ship's security. My wife opened her suitcase so they could inspect more closely (they don't open bags until the owner arrives - things are discovered via x-ray inspection as the bags are loaded onto the ship) and they got a closeup look at those hand weights. Well, after a bit of a chuckle, and a promise from my wife that she wouldnt' hit me with them, she was allowed to take her suitcase AND hand weights to our stateroom. On another occasion I was prevented from bringing CO2 cartridges for my auto-inflating snorkel vest onto a ship. Although it wasn't included on their prohibited items list I was told it was captain's prerogative to prohibit additional items in their discretion. So you never know what's going to catch their eye. Even something that is seemingly innocuous, and not on their list, may not make it on board.

I bought a Coco themed play guitar for my grandson’s birthday at WDW prior to a Disney cruise. We had also just run at the WDW marathon weekend. All the (washed) running stuff went into one suitcase (along with the guitar) and went under the bed on the ship and was never opened. We had no need of any of the contents on the cruise. When we got home a week later the guitar was gone and had been replaced with a note saying that it had been removed from our luggage because it was a prohibited “musical instrument” and we could pick it up after the cruise. Good to know after we got home.

Since the ships produce their own fresh water, I'm sure the trays 6 not removed for conservation. They likely did it to reduce wasted food from 5 plates being gotten at a tume.
@DavidWood2 Жыл бұрын
Ships can produce fresh water, though they use energy to do so. Washing up uses detergent and produces grey water, which requires energy to treat before the water is discharged to the sea and the residual component is stored on board for shore disposal. Saving water is worthwhile on a ship.

Tony, the biggest reason that Carnival got rid of trays in the buffet is that so many people were loading them up and attempting to take them to the Lido or their rooms! Too much lost dining ware! If you order room service, they know what is sent, but if 200 plates disappear from the buffets supply daily, they will run out. The various eateries do not share utensils and it caused problems.
@terriellis3697 Жыл бұрын

I recall many years ago, when we used walkie talkies, that the ferries between the UK and europe would not permit their use on board. First of all, maritime law restrictions would allow only certain frequencies to be used at sea, which also required a licence. Also, there are different regulations in countries regaulating frequencies and licence requirements. The radios I used in the UK are illegal in the USA, and vice versa.
