This has been valuable information for my 14 year son who is doing a project on invasive species but highlighting Cane Toads in Australia specifically. He has done his own field work trial for his project using this fantastic research information. He caught 72 Cane toad tadpoles in 48 hour period in a very small pond on a friends property using a frozen female Cane Toad to attrack the tadpoles. Hopefully just that alone has stopped the progression of Cane Toads by hundreds or thousands. Thank you.

Hopefully they update people on the progress of these traps. I found this clip by accident. Pretty cool how crows have learned to kill cane toads.

Great stuff! I saw on a documentary recently that some native species are learning to eat the cane toads by avoiding the most poisonous bits. That's great to see and presumably they will teach their young to do this as well.

How Exciting! Makes me want to plan that activity, in my Holiday Itinerary . Fishing is always pleasurable, If you catch a fish or not! But knowing that you've Caught ( who knows how many!?!) of these creatures before they can do any damage/ re-replicating, would be a bonus activity. Good to Know.

These invasive cane toads are a huge problem here in the US, more specifically in south Florida. They are killing everything from our native alligators & crocks to family dogs & cats. Hope this new research proves successful.

Got them west of the range Northern Rivers Nsw Aus. One thing he didn't mention was after approx 4 hrs the trap needs to be removed as the tadpoles send out a chemical that tells others not to enter.

I would love to have a tadpole attractor. I live in USA in florida and have a backyard pond with lots of cane toads. They are eating all my good tree frogs and hard to catch.

Cane toad traps should be handed out free of charge throughout Australia. I recently moved to the Sunshine Coast, and I can not find them anywhere. In the meantime I am catching the toads as I find them. Catching the tedpols would be more affective. Hardvare stores and pool supply stotes shoul sell them as well.

Back when we where kids we where allowed to walk around the yard shooting them with air rifles. Not allowed to do that anymore. But was a great way to get rid of pest and nice target practice in the back yard. Government Nanny state Australia.

Same with Indian Mynas, ever since gun control in 1996, their population EXPLODED. Now we have problems with feral cats, foxes & rabbits now in Sydney. Used to be able to pop them off with .22s and their numbers were so small. Now, they're in plague populations.

So...hopefully all tadpoles are attracted because if not, the tadpoles that arent attracted would simply continue the natural selection process and start a new generation of tadpoles that aren't attracted to the bait. Still, great tool though but more ideas need to come in to stay one step ahead.

To say only 100 cane toads being released led to the current situation is in a very technical sense true, but it's pretty misleading... They released over 60,000 total.

Did you ever find the bufo tabs? I asked this question and waiting to hear....looked online and found nothing....we can make the funnel box but need the bufo tabs.....really don't want to blend up the toads to make my own, but I'm so afraid of my dog grabbing one of them some day in the yd where I see them all the time. My pup is barking at them so far, but someday she may grab one and it'll be over for her.

Join the war,. Difficult to distinguish from natives in the dark so tadpole approach seems too brilliant to be true. Hope all toad tadpoles don’t favor the attractant.

They’re a pest in places other than Australia. They’re native to South America/Central America, but they were introduced in a lot of other sugar cane growing areas which includes a lot of islands in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Additionally I believe they’re spread into bits of North America where they haven’t typically been seen before and disrupting native wildlife there as well. Theres heaps of need to control these guys in plenty of places around the world

@@zachariahgrissom8843 no, it doesn't appear too, i used some of these baits, caught like 2000 of the rotten things, pretty sure they were canetoadpoles. i left the trap for 3 days the more that died in the trap, lack of oxygen, the more it attracted others. the stench was overpowering when i emptied the trap
