i all started with my mate going over in the 80s too and coming back with stories of the racing, mad sunday and partying - was on the bucket list for a long time but we finally got there - and were going back in less than 2 weeks time! glad you enjoyed the vid!

Thank mine and my wife first time at the TT we have opted for practice week which is a real good event not so highly populated (we will see and let you know) being practice week you obviously find see all out racing speeds but the practice speeds will no doubt blow me away looking forward to it and thanks for your video and info very useful thanks Chris

thanks for the kind words Chris - i know that you will have a fantastic time - we were originally going to go over for practice week before covid happened - i think it is just as good as race week and you will still get all of the atmosphere too - enjoy!!

Do you have to reserve campsites at the rugby feild...or is there usually plenty of accommodation?

I would say that it is definitely advisable to pre-book the camping at the rugby club - from our experience in 2022 there may have been a few free tent spaces but not many - most of the spaces were full and all of the pre-erected tents etc were definitely sold out - hope that helps

Don't forget to pack what you need, & check twice. Nothing worse than getting to the campsite & finding something you forgotten.

There are also ferries from Belfast and Dublin! So if you’re really stuck you can cross to Northern Ireland or Ireland first, then IOM!

Thanks for the comment. That is probably worth bearing in mind as the ferry crossings can sell out very quickly especially for the most popular times. We went out on the middle saturday this year and returned on the sunday after the senior TT and the ferries were rammed. Thanks again for the tip.

Can tourists ride around the circuit at leisurely paces before / after the race?

yes - you can use the circuit to get to your chosen viewing spot and to move around the island before and after the racing - the road closure and reopening times are notified in advance (on social media and through many other channels) - this can be quite flexible if the race schedule changes (and it often does) - the most important thing is that the closures are enforced ridgidly so give yourself plenty of time to get to where you want to go as once the roads close you will be diverted off the circuit wherever you are - hope that helps - thanks for the question

now thats a good question! - i would suggest (as you would be flying into the UK mainland) that your best option would be to hire a bike on the mainland (london / bristol / manchester / liverpool) - that would mean that you would still need tickets for the ferry crossing but i dont think (off the top of my head) that there would be hire services on the isle of man itself - hope that helps

thanks for the question: it could indeed be an option but from everything that I have heard, rental accommodation is in high demand during race week especially, with many places being booked up to a year in advance - so I would recommend booking as early as possible

Blimey, i went to race week in 1997 the ferry was nothing like as big or grand. More like a tug than a cruise ship

it was pretty wild being on a ferry with so many bikes - especially landing in douglas at 3:00 am and all rolling off onto the island - hope you enjoyed the vids!

What you don't mention is the exorbitant prices of the ferry, IF you can get a ticket (2023). The price literally triples, (or more), for TT race week. 2023 price starts at 465 GBP for a van with two people. Plus, the actual ferry times v race starting times are crap. You must sail the day before race week starts if you want to see all the races. If you don't mind getting around the island by bus/taxi then direct flights to IoM, even on race week start at around 80 GBP. Basically start planning your TT week a year ahead and book everything as early as possible - flights, ferry, accommodation - EVERYTHING!

i take your point but we got ferries (on bikes) for less than £250 and then camped for a week for £60 each - we found the food and beer was all very fairly priced - compare than to a weekend at silverstone for the F1 where youre paying £450 for a basic ticket and getting ripped off for every burger and pint of beer and i think the TT works out way better value - i take your point about having to book so far in advance but thats just a measure if how popular it is

This will be our first TT (my mum, dad, sister and one of my best buddies) on bikes - we started planning End of 2021. Ferry cost us 400€ per person to and back. We will be there for practice week from Monday to monday so we will see 1-2 racedays before we head back home. Super excited! Thanks a lot for your insights, we currently absorb all kind of info we can get - I bet this trip will be awesome!
