I can see why Morris needs to stop teaching you. Pilau comes from the coast of East Africa due to indian and arabic influence. As for pepe, not many kenyans cook with it. Especially in hotels and restaurants where they make big portions of food. What you can do is request for it to be cooked in your portion. Each house hold makes their food differently. Personally I loooove pepe. I always treat myself with some Nigerian/Ghanian food from Mama Ashanti in lavington. I love your videos! Keep it up.

Also when in Kenya spicy doesn't necessarily mean Hot. Kenyans can use variety of whole spices and herbs like garlic, ginger, cardamom, rosemary, coriander etc. Like Pilau rice has a lot of spices. Pilau is very spicy but not hot. But when Nigerians say spicy they mean chilli hot if am not wrong

Thanks princess for appreciating our Kenyan food. My favourite is ugali/sukuma. Different tribes in kenya have their staple food. Western brothers we call them shemeji, they love ugali/ omena or fish. The pilau is mostly coast region food. But you can eat ugali for a whole year with different accompaniments and not get bored. You can also try the famous kamba muthokoi and kikuyu mukimo with fermented uji(porridge)

When some visitors enter Kenya, they will have to modify the cooking to suit their taste. How many West Africans, especially the Yoruba and Ghanians would cope eating Kenyan food without pepper? Why don't they mix the vegetable with the sauce to get soup like it's done in Nigeria? Do they use curry, thyme, seasoning cube, etc to cook?
@princesssarahbee
@princesssarahbee 8 ай бұрын
Most Kenyans don't like pepper that's why they rarely use it,so in order to keep everyone happy especially visitors,when you request for it,you'll be given. For spices, I can only say for this particular restaurant....she used royco and salt mostly.
@TinakishO
@TinakishO 8 ай бұрын
Health reasons is the reason why most Kenyans don't use a lot of spices and pepper. Stomach ulcers is common here, if you cook spicy foods, you are likely to worsen some people's illnesses. Better be safe. But you can find spices here. Personally, I cook 2 sets of foods if I am hosting to cater for those who don't eat spices.

@TinakishO

I find it weird some Nigerians feel like when they leave their country, they expect to see their culture and ways of life in other countries. I thought the purpose of traveling was to get to experience a new culture of the people living in that particular area and not imposing your cultural norms and beliefs on people you are not related to. If you feel you cannot accept that we are not the same and we differ culturally, it is best to stick to your country. Don't go around making a fool of yourself trying to find Nigeria outside Nigeria. You visit someone, you eat what they serve you and not try to criticize how your host cooks their food. Having an open mindset will take you far.

This was enjoyable to watch. But Morris is not factual. Pilau is very much a Kenyan dish but its found throughout East Africa you can think of it as the East African version of Jollof rice. Also to note is that Kenyans dont mix proteins in their stews for instance you cant mix beef with chicken or fish ir eggs. Everything stew is cooked separately.
