He wasn't much of the problem the script sucked and the visuals were not quite surreal like they needed to be it was too obvious that they were in dreams. And the backstory of Freddy didn't make any sense in this context if he was a teacher and had his own house it would be more spooky and make some sense because who wouldn't let their guard down in front of the preschool teacher vs a Drifter that lives in the basement Boiler Room of the 1 floor preschool has no real ties to the city. Other than the inconsistent script he would have made a fine Freddy they still should have made him just have a bit more morbid humor when he was fucking with the kids I'm not saying Freddy's Dead level of slapstick I'm talking more holy fuck what the fuck biblical kind of Twisted. Because that's what made him scary he twisted your sweetest dreams into your worst nightmares and then went in for the kill all while laughing his ass off on how pathetic your dreams were. Otherwise the way this film is structured he wasn't really that scary he reminded me of a random battle monster in an RPG when he popped up in jump-scares throughout the film. What better way to punish a parent than the loss of a child? And the kids get a "sins of the father" sort of deal in the process, because the parents aren't just morally gray, but straight up morally TAINTED. And Freddy, while still the horror movie villain killing people, could also have been a cautionary tale on misdirected rage. That would be an interesting and rather timely story these days.

Maybe the townsfolk realized their mistake shortly after the fire was started, and (still in torch-and-pitchforks mood) did the same to the one who did actually molested their kids. Or maybe instead of shuffling the kids off to a boiler room he invited them to dinner on, say, a family farm, where one of his family members (or even a hired laborer) would actually molest them -- without Freddy's knowledge. (Though the extent of his knowledge could be used as plot fodder for further sequels!) And when the townsfolk cornered him in the barn, the actual molester was one of the onlookers, potentially riling up the mob to throw off suspicion from himself. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER!

I really like the metaphor in this one. The idea that Freddy as a nightmare demon showing up as these kids grow into adulthood is a good analogy to recalling past trauma as you grow up, especially is that trauma related to sex and you enter into a new sexual relationship. In a way it works better than the original because kids getting murdered by a ghost as a way to punish the parents for vigilante justice doesn't really resonate the same way, it is not really analogous to anything.
@jadeandjesse59085 жыл бұрын
That was initially the entire concept behind the original, but it was dropped from the original because a recent scandal had occurred with a chain of schools reportedly abusing the kids. As Robert Englund said himself, that choice actually helped the original because the sexuality of it became subtext. I've always read into the original Nightmare that way, so I wouldn't give the remake the credit of conceiving this idea, more so just realizing it.

In Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, Freddy Krueger's father is played by Alice Cooper. In Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part 6, we hear the song He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask) by Alice Cooper playing on a car's radio. Freddy vs Jason would imply that these two franchises take place within a shared universe. Now is it just a coincidence that Freddy Krueger's father looks identical to Alice Cooper or is Alice Cooper a relative of Freddy Krueger within this universe? Also, who is "the man behind the mask" that Alice is singing about in this universe? Is Jason well-known enough for a song to be written about him? But why would Alice Cooper sing about him being back before Jason has returned? And that's not even mentioning the fact that the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic book (and scrapped sequel) would imply that the Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Evil Dead franchises all take place within a shared universe. In Ash vs Evil Dead, we see an Alice Cooper poster in Ash's bedroom. Of course, in this shared universe, the events of Ash vs Evil Dead wouldn't happen since the timeline would've split when he fought Jason and Freddy. However, there's no reason that this would effect Ash having an Alice Cooper poster in his childhood bedroom, as this would've taken place in 2003 at the earliest. So what could all this mean? It's simple. In the Freddy vs Jason universe, Alice Cooper is a god.

They don't look at Remakes as a totally different universe, but always try to compare it with the OG and are never happy. If it's too different, they complain, but if it is too similar they complain as well. I also love Halloween 6 Pcut and really like the Nightmare Reboot. But I hate the newest Halloween trilogy and I also see the flaws in the OG Halloween (bad pacing) and OG NOES (the kids not even looking like they had tons of nightmares the previous nights, the all looked like they had a good night of rest, it just feels unrealistic and the "tiredness" looks fake).

I really loved the remake. Jackie Earle Haley is a great actor and a very creepy Freddy Krueger. I grew up watching the original ANOES series, Freddy's Nightmares and Nightmare Cafe. Robert Englund has always been awesome and gave me loads of nightmares. He has been Freddy so long that he seems to be stuck in typecasting. Dance of the Dead (Masters of Horror episode) and The Phantom of The Opera are examples. He played a bit of a hillbilly in Strangeland but most often, he is Freddy playing other characters. @oren13054 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with the remake wasn't Freddy; he was mostly quite creepy and menacing. The main characters lack, well, character. The original gave the audience time to get to know people before killing them; it's what makes movie-goers actually care about the characters and plot.
@valeriebreidenstein83624 ай бұрын
I think the biggest problem with the characters is, that they killed Kris (who we got to know throughout the movie) and focused on Nancy for the later half. And with Roony Mara not even trying to do a good performance, it hurt her character and the movie. They should have either killed Nancy and let Kris live or should have focused more on Nancy and Quentin beforehand. If they had switched Kris and Nancy that would have made the movie so much better, since Katie Kassidy and Kyle Gallner did a very good job. They did their best. Roony Mara being so much in focus was the problem. Really every character was better than Nancy. Kris was awesome, Quentin was good, JEH did an excellent job with what he was given, and Dean was good for what we saw of him (his actor actually not sleeping for 3 days before filming to let his character's tiredness look as real as possible).

My biggest gripe about this movie (when it was released and now) is that, while the performance of Jackie Earl Haley is absolutely sinister and could give Robert Englund a run for his money, I felt actually being blunt about him being a diddler was unnecessary. Like you joked, the idea of him being innocent or being wrongly accused would have made for a compelling arc, and that the kids he killed are the ones who falsely accused him. Also even in 2010 the effects were far from convincing. It was so jarring that the “burn” effects switched from practical to CGI throughout. Unrelated, do you think they should do a remake of “The Burning”?

You think directors really should've went there with the whole narrative that "kids just falsely accused him as a molester"?? What for? Funsies? Or that the adults in a town were randomly blood thirsty and convinced kids to lie so they could burn someone to death on a Friday night, for funsies? Him being innocent wouldn't match his character at all. He rarely sought out the adults that burned him, and often went after any kids he could. Why would he do that for "revenge"? And again, why would a ton of kids completely lie? In real life, kids molested have to give details before anyone attacks a molester. It would sound ridiculous if every single kid said "he molested me", just cause, I guess? And adults reacted that way without hearing details to back it up. None of that makes sense. It's clear multiple people for that approach have no idea what normal reactions are & how that could go down. In real life, adults would ask more questions before burning a guy to death. Multiple YOUNG children wouldn't collaborate on that story for fun.

I never understood the concept of bringing Freddy into the real world to kill him. Isnt killing him how this all got started? On another note the special effects were bad in this film. Hollywood seems to think that cheesy computer effects are better than practical effects. Well better luck with the next five remakes. Maybe we'll be blessed with a Freddy played by The Rock...

Although the movie was pretty bad, as most of the A Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, Jackie Earle Haley gave a excellent and creepy portrayal and brought back the truly dark and scary Freddy that we lost after the two first movies...

Am I horrible for part of me wanting the twist of this remake to be that there were no concrete statements as to whether Freddy actually did anything wrong before he was killed leaving it to the viewer's imagination, albeit with a mild implication that while Freddy did in fact have the criminal impulses he was accused of indulging, he had never physically done anything to the kids, and then after he was killed he kind of went, "so you want to see me be an evil bastard? Let me show you an evil bastard," going off the deep end post-mortem?

"You look just as beautiful as ever", the pedo says to the statuesque blonde. I don't think it's creepy, it's just confusing. If, in her dream, she regressed back to a kid and this Freddy said the same line to a ten year old girl, THAT would be creepy. And it'd never make it pass the censors.

I like how the movie is more serious than a standard Elm Street film post 2 and before New Nightmare, unfortunately it has so many screw ups in writing because I like the concept of an outright evil Freddy or slasher villain seeking revenge. Friday sort of plays it with Jason aiming at the people having sex specifically. Honestly though, I think this type of movies should stick to practical effects.

People can hate the movie all the want, but you are lying if your saying Jack Earle Haley did not make a good freddy. The clips here alone show that. Define "good Freddy". Scary? Yes, he got that. Memorable? Unique? Fitting to the established character? Not so much. He's just...boring. Scary, but boring. Lame special effects and a killer who just seems like a mean mob enforcer is kinda the opposite of Freddy. It'd be like if Jason was short, fast, and killed people in the most efficient way possible--that would be terrifying in real life, but not a good Jason.

For his big scene in the opening sequence, Kellan Lutz chose not to sleep for a few days to get himself into character. Samuel Bayer directed such classic music videos as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Blind Melon's "No Rain," and Garbage's "Only Happy When It Rains," and commercials for brands like Chrysler and Nike. Nightmare on Elm Street was his first break into directing a feature-length film, but his leading man had some experience behind the commercial camera too. Jackie Earle Haley started his career as a child actor, most notably in The Bad News Bears (1976), but his awkward teen years hits his career pretty hard. So, he quit acting, moved to Texas, and made his living directing TV commercials.

Johnny Depp accompanied his friend Jackie Earle Haley to auditions for A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Instead of Haley being chosen for a role, it was Depp who was spotted by director Wes Craven, who asked him if he would like to read for a part. Depp got a part in that film, Haley didn't, but Haley would go on to play Freddy in this remake 26 years later.

Honestly, this movie has some interesting twists on the formula with the micro naps, and the part about the brain staying alive for seven minutes after death. If they had focused more on the new stuff, and less on recreating iconic moments from the first movie, this could have been pretty solid.
