Real life explanation behind the situation regarding Nancy and the ending of the original Nightmare on Elms Street. Wes Craven's original ending had the entire movie be revealed to be a nightmare inside Nancy's head. Everyone survived, and Freddy was more a metaphorical villain than what he eventually turned into. The studio executives decided that they rather end the first movie with a jump scare/bad ending because those were popular at the time. So Wes Craven was forced to reshoot the ending of the original Nightmare on Elms Street and we got this ending.

It's the ending that I was told by teachers, never to use. I was in grade 2 the first time I was told how much of a cop out that ending is. I have trouble believing Wes would try for such a juvenille cop-out but it seems to be true. The real question becomes, what is canon?

He's actually a lot better than the Critic at this point. NC just seems rather self-absorbed and aristocratic in the way that he says and does things, and in the end it all comes across as rather mean-spirited. With Decker, you feel like you're just sitting down and talking with a guy in his living room, which helps to draw the audience into the experience.

20:34 You know there is likely a reason why she didn't fight back against Krueger. It's entirely possible that seeing all those drugs caused a PTSD moment to her time as a junkie, and it caused her to freeze in fear.

Not a bad point but they went to the trouble of filming a scene where she could easily have taken drugs. Here, in the real world, she says no, where I probably would have gone for the candy. That's why I was pissed when they got lazy, and let her die without much of a battle! Grrrrr!

I liked noes 3 best, followed by noes, noes 4, & noes 2. Noes 5 wasn't all bad, but Freddy's Dead was very lame. Wes Craven's New Nightmare was somewhat respectable, but Freddy Vs. Jason was lame in the fact that Freddy only claims 1 victim. Noes (2010)...I actually kinda liked it, despite there being no Robert Englund.

@@campbloodslasher5900 Well...😀😀😀... we'll have to agree to disagree. I liked everything from 1-4, but after that, although I can watch 5, Freddy's Dead-The Final Nightmare, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Freddy Vs. Jason, and N. O. E. S. (2010), I'm not so into them, as I am into 1-4. In the first 4 movies, there's 4 kills in No. 1, something like 6-8 or more in No. 2, at least 7 in No. 3, and I counted 6 kills in No.4. No. 5 has 3 kills, Freddy's Dead-The Final Nightmare has 5, when you count Freddy killing his Wife, and then getting "Killed" by his Daughter. I forget how many people Freddy killed in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Freddy Vs. Jason was an almost total disaster! Really? Freddy only gets 1 victim in that movie, while Jason gets loads of victims! N. O. E. S. 2010 sees "Freddy" return to form, but with Robert Englund not doing the Freddy Krueger Character, While the movie is still good, there's something missing. Oh, well... we'll see if there are any more movies from this series.

Fun Fact: At the film's beginning, when Kristen is building the model house...the song that was originally playing in the theatrical release was "Into The Fire" by Dokken. When the movie was FIRST released on VHS and Laserdisk the song was strangely changed to "Quiet Cool" by Joe Lamont. Then, when it came out on DVD, they changed it back to "Into The Fire." Weird.

The Nancy thing could be explained if you think of the ending of NOES as a regular nightmare that Nancy had. I mean, she spent days (weeks?) being terrorized and watching her friends drop like flies. She 'killed' Freddy, but she would still have the capacity to have nightmares, so it would make sense to have a dream where all her friends lived, but have it turn into a nightmare. After all that, she probably had tons of nightmares and night terrors, lending some fuel to the 'Nancy went crazy' bit from NOES 2, and would explain why Nancy takes dream suppressants now even though she would know that Freddy is 'gone'.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was the horror movie that got my 12 year old self into horror movies. After not setting a stop time on my VCR when recording wrestling one night, this movie happened to be after it, with the preceding warning of violence, language and nudity catching me like a moth to a flame. I'm glad it was this movie that got me into horror, as I still consider it quite a good movie. Love the dark tone and the humour, although the "dream powers" gimmick seems a little cheesy now. Probably my favourite Nightmare on Elm Street movie, although the first and A New Nightmare are pretty good too.

Dream Warriors was my first also. My step-dad was a teacher and on a teacher work day I went with him to hang out with some of the other teachers kids. I was probably in 2nd grade at the time and was in a classroom with 2 other kids who were messing with a tv. They were getting nothing but static and one of them commented that it must be Freddy Krueger. Whether they went into any more detail of who Freddy Krueger was or the Nightmare on Elm Street movies in general....I do not rememeber at all. All I remember is asking my step dad to stop by the "tape store",( there were no Blockbuster Videos at this point in time), so we could rent a Freddy movie. He had no idea about the movies either but when we walked through the door there was a cardboard stand of the Nightmare 3 poster with the vhs tapes sitting in it. I told my step-dad that that was it. He picked up a vhs and brought it to the counter and made a little small talk with the clerk about what kind of movie a "Freddy movie" was. The clerk just said: "Are you sure you want to rent this for your kid?". Anyway....I watched it that night, it scared the living bejeesus out of me and I had nightmares for weeks. But, I am a huge Nightmare fan and part 3 is still my favorite of the series. The End.

Look up a fan film called "Don't Fall Asleep". It fills in a lot the gaps of Nancy's story between the first film and this one. It also explains the reference in Part 2 of her supposedly going crazy, and how Nancy would become a dream researcher as well as how she got the Hypnocil along with her showing up at Westin Hills. As well as explaining how Donald Thompson got bumped from Lieutenant to a drunk security guard. Also, Phillip did not head towards a restricted area. Having been a patient in a hospital like this myself, they lock the doors leading into that particular unit or area at night. Also looking like they're all still awake when they discover they're in the dream during the group therapy scene when Nancy explains what's going on, was what Wes Craven started with the original film where entering into the dream world was seamless in a way and it was meant to be that way to make it like you never knew when the characters were awake or asleep. With the way he did it in the original film even if they closed their eyes for a split second, it could be possible to be in the dream.

Here’s my interpretation: Nancy never died or went crazy. In Freddy’s Revenge, her reputation was that she went nuts because of the towns perception of her. That’s just not true, but there’s no evidence of her death. The only conclusion I drew from the convertible taking the kids away and the kids even being alive is that Nancy was actually dreaming when she went outside. Perhaps she passed out of exhaustion after forcing him out of the waking world, but that’s a leap. Probably just a flash forward in time. Anyway it’s her dream, her friends never came back to life, and her mother was dragged through the door but was likely already dead anyway. That’s how I’ve always thought of it since I was a kid, never even thought about Nancy being dead. Dr. Bitch 😆 lol nice review.

My thoughts in relation to the end of Nightmare part 1 are that maybe the nightmare with Freddy capturing her and her friends was just a normal nightmare, i mean she did go through a crazy event, so it'd be understandable to have a nightmare or two about it. Nice, that's a good theory. But since Freddy is still around and still killing kids two movies later, that means Nancy's plan to kill Freddy didn't work. the end of elm street 1 was clearly a dream sequence. 1st of all, she just gets driven off in a car. no death is seen for nancy. second, my theory is just because freddy was killed, stopped, or weakened, doesn't mean that they would stop having nightmares about him. imagine if some dream invader killed all your friends. even if the killer died, the experience would be traumatic. you would probably have nightmares about it. it's quite likely she was just having a dream about freddy even after the fact.

Nancy being alive in this could be as simple as she managed to wake up. I always saw the nightmare at the end of the first film was Freddy giving Nancy's mother a prolonged nightmare that involved the fear of losing the children in the form of the car.

When my friend and I saw this movie in the theatre, we were laughing so hard at the "Welcome to Prime time bitch" part, that I had to walk out of the theater for a cpl mins so I could regain my composure. People were getting mad at us....lol.

The process used to create the effect of the marionette turning into Freddy is interesting. The idea that it was done in reverse is so simple, it never even occurred to me. Cool piece of information. Thanks.

This and the original are my two favorites in the "Nightmare" series, and it's not even close. The FX in this film are great for 1987. I love you channel, Decker!!!! Keep up the great work, man. I live for horror movies.

My way of retconning the ending of the first film and Nancy being alive in this one is that Nancy literally dreamed the ending (hence the new clothes and everyone back alive in the car) and woke up. She's still alive, as is her mom, but messed up. As you would be.

1:50 - 2:02 You are so spectacularly wrong it got me triggered. Nancy's mother dreamed about Freddy. Every other person you saw was just scenery in that dream and a red herring. ONLY Nancy's mother died. Nobody else. 5:18 Nice to see Bill Maher putting in a special guest appearance. 20:26 Once again King Charles I gets it spectacularly wrong. Freddy used TEMPTATION to kill Tarin. She let him inject her with (presumably) heroin because her will wasn't strong enough to refuse!

Nancy never died. The town thought she went crazy and killed herself, when in actuality she went to receive psychiatric care (most likely), then she went to collage and became a psychologist herself. The ending of Nightmare 1 is actually just a nightmare.

4:19 This current moment can be real, it is called dreams in a dream. It is when you look like you woke up and did everything you do in your daily life but you are secretly in a dream. It can also be a hallucination, when you have a nightmare you don't forget, sometimes, you might hear something or you might see something in the dark or when you wake up.
