Fun fact: Glenn's bedtime puree was actually achieved by flipping a set and camera upside down and pouring the gore through a hole. Not sure if it was done via miniature or full-scale. But either way, it's another one of those effects that sounds like it's cheaper and better looking than CGI.

Definitely full scale. The entire room was built to be rotated, which even included nailing all the furniture to the floor, and having everything on the shelves glued down. It definitely makes the final product feel more real than just tossing an actor on a green screen.

Trace them on a copper cookie sheet . Cut them out . Drill holes . Bend them into shape . Connect the metal pieces using brass fasteners . Cut a pattern out of 4 plastic lettuce knives . Paint the blades silver . Super glue them onto the fingertips . Rivet the metal to the glove There you go

Decker, I'd just like to say that I respect and find you an entertaining and awesome film reviewer. The fact that you're finally reviewing some of Horror's biggest classics (At least, the first few, I'd rather not get into some of the.. in depth "sequels.") is honestly something that's probably going to keep me waking up in the morning. You deserve each and every subscription you get for just being an overall cool guy.
@bryanalexander75713 жыл бұрын
Saw a pretty good explanation, don't remember where, that she never actually woke up. The whole end of the movie was her nightmare which explains setting up the booby traps so fast, the scene in the mother's bedroom, and the jumping to the next morning with the car. Her showing up in part 3 shows that she somehow survived and escaped "off camera".
@singingwolf89973 жыл бұрын
I always saw the ending as a regular, run-of-the-mill nightmare that Nancy had. She beat Kruger, but she'd probably be traumatized for life, which explains why she takes medication to prevent dreaming in part 3. She doesn't take it to keep Freddy away because she thought she already beat him (hence her surprise when she heard Kristen reciting the rhyme and when she saw Freddy in Kristen's dream). She takes it to stop her own PTSD induced nightmares. But that was just my take.

I always had the theory that Nancy didn't actually wake up from that last dream where Glenn was supposed to be looking out. This would explain the mother's apparent osmosis into the bed. Then freddy fakes her out. He jump cuts to morning when she opens the door. Even Nancy was looking around like WTF is this? Ignoring the obvious "There is no spoon" moment and accepting this as the real world. She gets in the car with what appears to be her friends. She does indeed escape from Freddy though hence her return in Dream Warriors. So really it's unknown how she finally got away.

18:05 To be honest, when i first saw this scene i was just as confused as Decker was. The only logical explanation I could really come up with this might be that, Freddy seems to retain some of his powers from the dream world even when he's in the real world, which might explain why. Either that or Freddy tricked Nancy into believing that she dragged him into the real world, except she's still in the dream. With the ending however, I'm only guessing that Freddy tries to murder Nancy but she manages to wake up. After that, Nancy's fate was kinda... Left unknown. I mean they DID kinda hint at it in the 2nd film but they never really brought it up again, especially in Dream Warriors. So far that's all i can really come up with.

As you tend to have a knack for, another fun and entertaining review. One thing that always was creepy to me anyway was not just the vile Krueger is going to kill someone aspect but the unsettling sense you get from the people who are supposed to protect you. Like the parents and townspeople saying take this sleeping pill, there isn't any murderer in your dreams. Still Springwood, OH. circa 1984 it's not like anything else worthwhile happened other than sleeping or pill popping.

My main problem with the ending is that is makes no logical sense whatsoever. It was an amalgamation of about 3 or 4 different endings. They should've picked one and stuck to it. Was the entire movie a dream? Was the climax involving Nancy waking up and pulling Kruger into the real world just a dream, and she never actually woke up? Or was it all real and turning her back on Freddy somehow erased everything that happened and brought her friends back to life, all so Freddy could trap them in a car and drive off with them, whilst simultaneously killing Nancy's mom, all taking place in the real world somehow? Or did Nancy die off screen, and this is like a dreamworld version of hell her and her friends are all trapped in? Who knows? None of those possibilities make complete sense either, and when you add in the sequels, particularly Dream Warriors, where Nancy shows up like that ending never happened, it REALLY makes no sense. But even just taken on it's own merits, without any consideration of the sequels Craven obviously didn't know they were gonna make, the ending is just a f**king mess.

Watched this movie today. I've only ever seen Freddy v Jason, the new reboot one, and one with a little boy in a hospital (I think...I was like 10 years old at the time). I was genuinely surprised at how good it was, especially compared to Friday 13th and Halloween. Effects are better, acting is better... I think the story is a lot more real, despite its paranormal angle. Vigilante justice is common where I come from, especially when kids are involved. Petrol-soaked tyre round the neck, a lit match... the community deals with it, there and then. So it makes sense that the parents would kill Freddy to protect their kids, and hide it from their kids. Really is a good horror film. Torrenting part 2 now. Excited!
@markcarpenter6020 Жыл бұрын
Ironically there was a draft of the script where Freddy was innocent and he was killing the kids as revenge for being murdered for something he didn't do. Honestly I wish they had kept that part. There is a reason vigilante justice is outlawed in the US. We tried it back during the old West times and a LOT of innocent people ended up dying.

@kurvos8 жыл бұрын
I agree with your criticism of the movie. But there is also one more thing I'd like to add - Nancy being awake for 8 days. The way the movie handles this aspect is really stupid. Her only side-effect of this is to be more tired... and, that's it. In real life, staying up more than 48 hours is really dangerous for your mental health. You'd start to go crazy and imagine things, you'd be really easy to piss off and startle, you'd start to feel pain and discomfort in ways you shouldn't because your body doesn't work as it should at this rate, and you'd simply be incapable of properly function like a human being. It bothers me even more they wouldn't focus on this in a freakin' horror movie where this is THE MAIN THEME of the whole damn thing. In fact, that would be brilliant, because she would then not even be safe in her waked state. Because she would basically then be "dreaming" whilst being awake. Shit like that stops me from considering this movie as one of my all-time favorites. I still like it... but it really could have been a lot better.

Someone recommended me to you so I checked out your review and it's great. This is my favorite horror movie of all time by the way.

4:58 I've always wondered that as well. Those older movies that used practical effects and did them very well always get praised for it. People always gush about how awesome practical effects look when done well. Then cgi took over and people always hate on how fake and bad they look. So it's a very good question that I wonder about all the time as well - Why did movies move to cgi and stop using practical effects when practical has so much more potential? Is is because cgi is easier or what? Anyway - I'm probably biased cause of how much ANOES scared me when I was little, but I give the movie a 5/5. It's probably my favorite horror movie of all time. Although The Babadook is right up there with it.

I think practical effects with a bit of cgi is the perfect way to do movies.

The Evil Dead used a ripped in-half Poster of "Hills have Eyes", which Wes Craven was the Film Editor for, which was Rami's way of saying, "Hills have Eyes is a just a movie, in the Evil Dead Universe, which is real" ... So Wes in this showed Evil Dead on the T.V saying the same thing as Ramis, "Evil Deads just a Movie, Nightmare on Elm Street is the real Deal" ... :D Its really great when directors do little things like that, a way to show respect but also to have fun

My understanding for the reasons they didn't settle on saying it took place it California, along with changing Freddy's crimes, was because Craven didn't want it to seem like he was exploiting the scandals that were popping up in Cali at the time.

wonder what it would look like if Freddy went against The Joker?
