Seriously, imagine a film where Jason killed early on and the film follows Jason as a silent protagonist, going around hell slaying demons. I thought that thing on the poster was going to be one of the monsters he was going to fight. You could have even left the same cliffhanger ending teasing Freddy vs Jason. But whatever. We got the film that we got, and unfortunately, it wasn't what any of us where hoping for.

The Unrated Cut extends the scene in which Coroner Phil eats Jason’s heart and his possession, explicitly shows the girl that was impaled being split in half, I believe it extends the scene of Josh melting away though I can’t quite remember, adds (Robert) Jason crushing the waitress’ head into a spurt of blood, includes Jason’s creature form entering Erin Gray’s Bajingo, and adds Josh’s corpse laying on the ground as Jason is reborn.

They said that since the second film.The reason the franchise has continuity problems is because it wasnt planed. In part one Jason is dead he was never meant as alive.When they went with killing Jason in the sequel they had to make up explanations as to why he was alive. In part 2 they try to say he must have survived his drowning an lived in the woods being to dumb to find his way home.But after part 2 because they kept making him more supernatural by surviving stuff like hanging an so on they had to start adding supernatural explanations. In part 6 they say Jason was never human after he drowned an that he did drown an return from the dead since the second film. In 7 8 9 1o Freddy vs Jason they all say the same.Jason Goes to Hell trys to tie this up by saying Jason was brought back to life by the book of the dead after his drowning by his mother. An that hes powered by a demon from the book thats why the knife that kills him is the one from evil dead.Originally in part 2 in the script there was a scene written were we flash back to little Jason washing up after his drowning an spitting up mud an going into the woods to live.Implying hes not dead but not alive either like the crow in between living an dead.The scene was removed from the finished product but kept in the novel of 2.

To counter the whole "Newline ruined Jason by making him speak" thing, (they still ruined him quite a bit, I definetly agree.) We never see the *actual* Jason speaking. What if Jason's "Canon" body is mute? It's an entirely different body (with speech capabilities), Jason would use that to his advantage like he did with the other bodies. If you were a body-jumping Demon-rat thing, wouldn't you use a new body's abilities to your advantage?

Even though this has Jason in it, I still think that Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning is a much better movie than this one without Jason in it (except for hallucinations Tommy Jarvis has - his hallucinations are more plausible than the ones Rennie has of Jason), because it quite frankly does a great job at continuing the formula established in the first movie, and it isn't as absurd as this is. Of the later entries in the series that went overboard with finding ways to distance itself from the formula of the earlier entries, this one is the worst, and I would even rather watch Jason X again than this. I don't think much of Jason Takes Manhattan but I think that is even better than this.

Fun Fact: This movie was reused failed attempt at a Final Nightmare script for Freddy.. this is why we have those slug monsters going into everyone,.. those were supposed to be the dream demons in corporeal form, after Freddy was taken out of the dream world and blown up. I think this is why they added the Freddy nod at the end, and not only as a stinger for a feel on how people would react to a VS movie.

I remember watching this for the first time just a few years ago; and by god, I never remembered it being as convoluted as this. This is a downright mess... To begin with; this movie basically combined the lore of Jason with Michael Meyers - giving Jason a long-lost sister, whom becomes the focus of his primary obsessions during the movie. AND it also combines it with Freddy's lore from the Final Nightmare, where Jason has to effectively "jump-into" a fellow Family Member in order to achieve his goals. And not only that, it brought in the friggin Necronomicon?! So basically this New Line Cinema Continuity includes - Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, AND the Evil Dead? I guess that's an interesting way to retcon a lot of discrepancies the series had; like why Jason was always able to come back to life - his mother was probably trying to use the book to revive him. And it might be possible that the Dream Demons from Freddy's Dead could simply be Deadites or something. Though, I feel like this movie represents an inevitable consequence that movies that deal with the Supernatural tend to have...If the Supernatural forces behind it are not explained properly, and never given a sense of limitations - properly being reigned in - the movies eventually just deteriorate into doing anything that they want; with rampant supernatural elements EVERYWHERE, to the point where it becomes common place. It's like the Second and Third Pirates of the Caribbean movies; they took the Supernatural element too far.

If New Line Cinema was ALWAYS working toward a FvJ movie, why did they effectively kill the Jason franchise with this abomination that actually had me entertained when I saw it in theatres back in '93. I had such high hopes for this, but was let down until the end of course. Then 10 years went by and New Line almost turned me against them and Jason after that bloody (entertaining) farce known as X.

Fun Fact: This movie was reused failed attempt at a Final Nightmare script for Freddy.. this is why we have those slug monsters going into everyone,.. those were supposed to be the dream demons in corporeal form, after Freddy was taken out of the dream world and blown up. I think this is why they added the Freddy nod at the end, and not only as a stinger for a feel on how people would react to a VS movie.

Someone may have mentioned this already in a previous comment but besides the necronomicon from the book of the Dead we also get a little Easter egg from creepshow. Down in the basement of the Voorhees house is a wooden crate and I believe on the side of it it says Arctic expedition. As a matter of fact, I think it even has the name Carpenter on the side of it, which is a reference to John carpenter. I can't remember. I might be mixing it up as something else in my mind. Anyway..That is the crate that the gorilla like creature underneath the staircase comes out of in creepshow. Also, some of the props in this film where the exact props used in the movie from dust till Dawn as KNB effects worked on both films.

Jason was revived by electricity (again) in 8. He fought Carrie in 7 (after she revived him). He was brought back by lightning in 6. By the logic of the fans whom complain JGTH is way too unbelievable of a story/timeline etc... then everything after part 4 (and technically part 5) should be called out for equal supernatural bullshit. I still argue people forget parts 2-4 took place in a single weekend. Like, Jason killed two dozen plus people in 48 hours and then is killed by Tommy Jarvis in Part 4. Everything after that is supernatural bullshit. I'm one of the few die hard Friday the 13th fans that thinks this film is refreshing, and is actually not as crazy, supernatural, and unbelievable as fans like to claim. There are a TON of errors in this movie ( I always LOL when Robert comes in to the Voorhees house and Lemay hides in the closet...I guess Robert DIDN'T see Lemay's car parked right out front of the house...?!), and Marcus was young and inexperienced, but holy SHIT does this movie have undoubtedly the BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY in the entire franchise, along with the best gore AND believable actors/drama in the entire franchise. Jason's look (when not body hopping) is the second best in the series next to 7 IMHO. I think Friday fans hate it because it's an actual movie and not just a means to an end slasher. The unrated version if this film is a niche classic that was WAY ahead of its time for both slasher AND Friday fans.

awesome review deck as always. (: but I gotta say being a crazed FT13 fan, that loves about everything FT13 I can not, I repeat like this movie. I hate it. I'll casual name 13 things I do like tho. But I gottas to be clear I do not care for this movie, but I do "enjoy" somethings bout it. Here we go: 1st I love the opening, the atmosphere os great! How the mist n the moon just goes man...its good. 2nd the design of Jason is applying at least, I really like the belt he's got going on, and the mask beinging on his face for so long it has shunk into his face, but I still would've like to see his face. 3rd the kills and gore affects are outstanding! I love me some practical affects soooo yeah. 4th Kane playing the guard, a nice little touch that Jason kills himself pretty much. 5th nice little funny scenes, such as Duke breaking that dudes fingers, or when the two of them draw their guns at each saying they both got guns.( im really starting to run out of reasons for me at least) umm....lets see...i know ! 6th the score ! I loved the soundtrack. moodie, exciting, and at least it makes the movie "feel" more Friday like. 7th the fight scene outside, yep even tho Jason should really just straight up kill Stevey he plays with him, like beating the shit outta him with a stick, and pull out a climby thing ( sorry I don't remember the name of it.) plus more JoJason the better. 8th seeing the Voorhees house, if this really has to be apart of the Jason mythos( I wish it wasn't tbh) seeing where Jason and his mom lived is interesting to say the least. 9th Duke was pretty fucking cool, but just like how Decker mentioned his backstory is not in the FUCKING BASE MOVIE! ! like really this dude knows all about Jason but is not in the other movies or anything at all!!! I'm really stretching the reasons now. but to be very clam headed, I liked Duke enough to stay invested in his character. ... bbbbuuuutttt then after not explaining him it just falls off with one big bear hug.( hey at least it was a cool kill by Jason n also made it into MKX as one of Jason's finishing moves) 10th Kane as Jay man again, I still say Richard from part 3 is my favourite, but I do love Kane tho. He is probably 2nd on top five actors to play Jason. 11th all the litter nods to other horror franchises, such as the crate from Creepshow being in the basement. The Book of the dead n of course Freddy grabbing Jason's mask at the end. 12lth the end scene with the demons is alright enough to be an ending to Jason ( even tho I think they should've just did the beginning as his end. I mean ending this in one big explodesion would have been epic but you get two pretty cool scenes of Jason "dying") ANNND number 13 is without this movie FVJ or FVJVA may have never happened. I know they were talking before hand but that finale shot really made this piece of garbage film sell it to me. FreddyVSJason then of course the Brilliant FreddyVSJasonVSAsh comic sequel. Anyway I've spent too much time on this and it was hard for me to find those 13 reasons. jason goes to hell is a good movie just people just want the same jason comes back and kills. but in jason goes to hell its more about who jason is. this guy doest realize this women was a fbi special task force undercover to lure jason to were they would ambush him because the fbi new he was to dangerous. now this movie is telling a little about jasons story and who jason really is. meaning he isnt like myers jason is more then just flesh. that u see jason in he is actually a demon. who can posses people if his body gets blown up. and the fact the book of the dead is in the movie my be a clue on why jason is what he is. i like this movie because it was diffrent it told a little more about jason. it clarifies that jason isnt a zombie but a demon. and the book of the dead my have something to do with jason.

So, if you watch the 'His name was Jason' documentary, the director explains the homo erotic S&M shaving scene by saying it was there (no joke) because he knew people would ask him about it in the future. That's it. Well, that but also because he wanted to subvert series expectations. Instead of showing a bunch naked young women, they were going to have a scene with two older men. Still doesn't excuse that the scene is a massive plot hole and total bullshit.
