Dear Ben, i liked your previous videos. I am sorry to hear about your recent bad experience but please, do take a moment, have a cup of coffee, sit down and think about what you are doing. I dont want to add salt to your wound, but u made some really poor choices in my opinion. If you are tight, plan your trips and if its not financial feasible then stop moving around for abit. How can you decide to move around when your savings are so low to not even able to pay for deposit, it clearly shows you are not saving backup money. Secondly, why on earth u place high value stuff in the care of people u dont even know that well? They are not even 5 star hotel, even so i wont do that in a 5 star hotel too, let alone some budget one. Lastly, dont forget the roots to your fame, it was the wonderful sight seeing and talking videos that made many of us fall in love with your videos. Dont let that fire dissapear, dont treat this like a only need to do when im broke, reignite your passion. Live your life with some drive. Take full responsibility for your actions, learn n b a better man. Hope things get better for u and more awesome exciting videos to come. Take care.

Very sorry to hear about your stressful situation. However, good financial planning is important. Look within a little. You didn't have 200 MYR for a deposit but leave over 10,000 MYR in valuables unattended just seems like a disconnect somewhere. Why do you have expensive clothes but not $45? Your life, your decisions, but you'll run into problems all the time if always having no money, going on vacations and spending on material items.

Dude #1 - why would you leave your bags containing thousands of dollars of belongings at the staff room??? Get a bank locker or something. Bottom line, this all came down to your lack of finances. You need to have a cushion PRIOR to multiple vacations. Not having $44 dollars for a deposit, leaving your valuables in hostile territory as not to pay for storage, etc. You’ve put yourself in a tenuous situation due to your lack of money management. @DamienYuen7718
@DamienYuen7718 22 күн бұрын
If you want to be a high maintenance guest you better be paying 5 star prices. You can't expect a high level of service at a serviced apartment unless it's a luxury place. People should always clean up after themselves even if cleaning service is offered. It's not an excuse to leave a mess. Show some respect to the workers by cleaning as much as possible. Also a place has the right to change their policies. Just because they didn't ask for a deposit before doesn't mean that they can't change and ask for it now. I have stayed in many places that changed from no deposit to asking for a deposit and places that raised the deposit amount. That is simply to ensure that people don't damage the unit and is justified.

Only a small fraction of people make enough money to do it full time. Stats show that there are an estimated 64 million content creators in the world on YT. Maybe a tiny fraction of 1% are successful enough to do it full time. The odds are horrible. Better off doing something else that can bring in consistent income which is a problem for content creators. Sorry for the edit but i find this all weird now that i rewatched it. Why are you not going to cops in the first place? Also RM10k is alot for us Malaysians. But you did not have 45usd on you? Having understand this better the video is coming off quite bad now. Any sane person would have lost their minds if a bag of that value goes missing and would never stay in that condo ever again. Putting up a front just to keep a cool head is something i don't buy at all now. The real steps here is to get the cops alerted and have them investigated then make a video about it. By majority of the rational comments here, they all say you are at the wrong and well I agree with them. If the bag was super secure like locks and zips and hard to get in. But then you mentioned it had an open top you can see what is in it. What really happened here Ben ? You left 2 bags, 1 of which was easy to identify what was in it. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS leaves that laying around?!

Secondly, report police report no matter what because insurance company does need it for any claim application. Itemise them out one by one with how much in value. If the police can't locate it (even with CCTV footage), your last chance is to claim from the insurance company and i hope you did buy one. Yes. you probably right. Don't put so much hope on it. Ben, if your bag was taken, it was probably returned because you were starting to create a ruckus and possibly "that guy" got scared. I just can't believe that you didn't have $49.00 for the deposit and then took a long trip to a different county. I believe that you didn't want to give the guy the deposit because you thought you were going to be ripped off. We wish you the best, but don't lie to us. We're not dummies and this shows total disrespect.
@ROYAL_REBEL
@ROYAL_REBEL 25 күн бұрын
I believe that didn't happen at all. With Airbnb, cleaning fees are already added to the total rent, whether you like it or not. So, the story about the deposit is iffy. It doesn't make sense that someone would leave a pair of newly bought AirPods behind to go on a holiday. He spent all this money in Bali (17 days) and Bangkok (10 days for his birthday). Although he's allowed to stay in Malaysia for 90 days, he flies to an exotic destination every two weeks. He's impulsive, reckless & stupid.

Never leave your bag with high valuables with the -thieves- *staffs* That's how it works in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world. You are tempting the staffs to be potential thieves. Too trusting or content for ? Sad. Don't bother with making a police report. It's a waste of time. Just consider it an expensive experience and a learning curve.

Dear Ben, first of all I sympathise with your predicament. I work in a 4 to 5 star hotel. We Must keep deposits. Renting in Malaysia is the same in case of damages please understand this. All your issues can be avoided if you have savings. You reminded me of British army retiree "olderbackpacker" who just left Malaysia for Thailand. He has a monthly pension of 800 pound sterling. When he left his wallet in a bus from JB to Kota tinggi, he was in panic mode. We Malaysians are helpful and generous but we should not be blamed for any inconvenience in your life when financial intelligence is not practiced. There must be savings. Going to Bali is not a good idea too as it is expensive there being a tourist island. From your past experience, I thought you already learned some lessons.

Hey Ben, for content for your next video, I have a question that I have not seen answered in any of your videos yet, maybe you could explore this topic. DATING. I know you have said that the nightlife in Malaysia isn't very active and that the nightlife in Bangkok is better 'to party'. But, is dating even possible in KL? Not playing the field, not partying, but finding a single girl to date without some promise of marriage? You know, like having an actual girlfriend you see once a week? I haven't seen a single video that provides any useful information about this anywhere on you tube yet. It seems like it would be a concern for any person, male or female, whether or not they will ever have a date again (with a local or non-local, either one) while they are living there or not. I have only heard vague references such as 'its hard' or 'dating sucks'. (For non-locals that is). If its too hard, that would be a huge reason to not move to Malaysia.

Well Ben, From the story I suspect the guy who does not like you. People who have resentment often feel entitled to take advantage. Penalties for theft in Malaysia are pretty severe, not something a reasonable person would risk, and I would be inclined to contact the owner and say you want the security footage. I'd have a friendly chat with any prime suspect, and let them know you would appreciate having it back and no questions would be asked, but once you go to the police it's out of your hands. I'd go to the police ASAP and have a chat with them and ask what they suggest. Perhaps an officer could meet you there and you could give them a chance "TO FIND THE STUFF" before a formal investigation. If they are not friendly or receptive, I'd mention to staff and the owner that you would be very happy to resolve the issue rather than cause escalate matters.

For such expensive things is either you carry them with you or rent a locker with you holding the keys. Don’t ever leave the bag anywhere in a cheap condo or hotel office. If it’s high end 4-5 star hotel that records your bags formally and gives you a number then yes you can trust those. From what you said it’s a cheap place and for sure there is risk of them stealing your items. This would apply anywhere in the world. Hope you learn from this. And yes make a police report if you fail to get back the bag within 24 hours. (It is likely you won’t see them anymore as the thief could have sold them away)

Ben, The first thing I would say is to get yourself an American Express card or a Discovery card. The idea is to not run the balance up to a high amount but to give you a buffer zone when finances are tight. The cards bill you once per month so this gives you a 30-day buffer. You pay them off as soon as possible and just do not run up the balance. In other words, pay them off ASAP to keep yourself out of debt. Regarding the bag issue get with the person that allowed you to put the bag in the storage area for he/she is your witness and have a word with that person to see what they recommend. If there is no positive response go to the police.

it sucks that your bag was stolen, definitely take a police report. But with that said you made a habit out of paying late. Why would it be your expectation for them to continue bending the rules for you. To do it once or twice is a different story but for you to just expect that they will keep accepting late payments is silly. You're from NYC and you know hardly anybody would be willing to do that in NYC so don't take advantage here.

If the oil damages the walls, or the furniture, then yes, that deposit is gone. Walls don't clean itself and oil on painted walls can't be cleaned. It will always have that yellow tint unless it's painted over. And when you paint over a wall, you have to paint the whole wall, because painting that one spot will show obvious difference in colour. That could easily run over RM200.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Don’t listen to the victim shamers. Def file a police report, be very polite to the cops and they’ll be helpful. If you’re nice enough they might visit the thief and convince him to return the stolen goods. I’m guessing that because you’re a regular, you were marked. So it’s likely others have filed reports against this thief of a concierge. No matter what anyone says, he had a duty of care to look after your belongings. Also report him to his manager, if you can get his details. Lastly, you should name and shame the place, so at least others can benefit from this horrible experience.

Sorry for your loss. Looks like your best bet is to file a police report, probably someone from the staff took your stuff and now they are covering their asses. If you're lucky - the police might force them to give the CCTV footage. I've heard of a case here when one of the cleaning staff took some belongings from a Russian tourist, they filed a report and the cleaners were detained the same day, and they got back their belongings. It might be a good idea to make some friends with other expats or locals, that can keep your stuff while you are away. As for the deposit - no way oil spilled on cooking surface will cost 200 rm to get it cleaned (it is the cost to clean the whole apartment) - they obviously took advantage, don't think you should ever trust them again In general, it is not normal here, I've left a couple times some expensive items (like wallet with money inside, expensive earphones) in Grab cars, but always got them back via support.

I'm a Malaysian & I know how the low levels here thinks: 1. They would do this sometimes not out of necessities, but out of hatred & jealousy. 2. Never give face to all these people especially against 'that 1 guy'. Go straight away to do a police report under theft. 3. Inform the apartment office that with the police report, you wanted to do insurance claim from the apartment insurance company. Ask the apartment management to give you the name of the insurance company. If the apartment company refuses to release the insurance name- make another police but this time the report is against the apartment management. Remember, in Malaysia when people treat you that way- never give face .
