Sonys big problem is that it has none. Well, none that have the success it wants. MS and XBox have several, very successful GAAS games and those are one reason XBox is so profitable. Sonys GAAS games tend to be flops, disasters or just successful enough to keep online. They have yet to hit the CoD level hit they need and desire.

But both switches have good things going for them, including it making sense to get multiple for multiple kids in a family as compared to other gaming options like PS5, Xbox or PC. But at a higher price point and switches already in many homes who knows? Maybe a handheld only lite version will release for cheaper.

Yes, inflation exists but so does Moore’s law. I think Nintendo is really pushing it if asking more than $400 USD when devices like the OLED Steam Deck are available. The handheld market has a bit more competition than when the original Switch launched and Nintendo should note that more is likely incoming.

@@nealstacy4393 what are you talking about? Oled steam deck is 500 to 600 dollar. Switch 2 on handheld mode 1.5 times and on docked 2 times more powerful than steam deck according to leaks. Also steam deck does not come with Dock. Valve sells official Dock for 70 dollars. In order to get hybrit experience you need to pay extra 100 at least for steam deck. For Switch 2 it comes out of box as hybrit. Dock, joycon grip, joy con straps, mouse support. So for 400-450 dollar you are getting better hardware with better battery life and it is fully hybrit out of the box. There is no competition.

​@jm8165 Frankly, 4K is overrated. 1440p I sometimes notice a difference, but 4K just seems so unnecessary. If it can reach that, cool, but it isn't as big of a leap to me as 480p to even 720p or 1080p was. In fact, my Galaxy S22 phone is maxed out at 1080p because older models that allowed for like 1440p and higher were rightly deemed pointless for a phone. The power consumption was just higher, and until recently, most videos weren't even higher than 1080p in the first place. For where 4K matters is VR, where having your eyes that close to the screen does actually matter. World of difference between say the Valve Index and the Quest 3.

There is virtually no goodwill or nostalgia for the original Mac games from the 90s left, they were a niche within a niche at their peak. The games were ported to iOS like a decade ago for free and they flopped there too. I tried to find them in my app store account and they’re not even there anymore. The new IP looks nothing like the old stuff, somehow manages to look more generic than Concord, and wants to make waves in a dead and super saturated market. If they’re smart they’ll stop throwing away good money after bad and pull the plug quietly. If they’re dumb they’re going to try to see it through until something releases, at which point it will flop.

Outside of the hardware leaks, I dont think Next handheld knows much, they said the bundle was an IP that has not had a previous special edition, MK8 has one. That version was coming later. As for price, they guessed it was between 399 and 499 so nothing there. Also they said the release date was mid-march, which seals the deal to me that he just got the console and the rest is guesswork.

There is no Switch MK8 special edition, only a bundle. Special/Limited Edition implies the console, joy-cons, and dock have an exclusive cosmetic. Nintendo released 10 Limited Edition (standard) Switch consoles, 5 Limited Edition Switch OLEDs and 3 Limited Edition Switch Lites, none of them were Mario Kart related.

I'm honestly not shocked if this turns out to be the actual pricing of the console. With the increase price of the ps5 pro and the current price of the xbox series x I was expecting $399 minimum but $499 as the max price. The only thing that would surprise me is if the Nintendo switch 2 does not launch with a OLED screen for that price because then that would mean we would be paying an even higher price for when the OLED model does eventually launch sadly. But either way I mostly use my current switch in docked mode and rarely use it in handheld mode.

Steam Deck starts at $399 and that's with Valve subsidizing the cost of the hardware, which Nintendo doesn't do. I thought they MIGHT do a handheld only model of the Switch 2 at that price and then have a bundle with game and dock for $499. If it's $450 for the floor it sounds like a happy medium

Steam deck does not come with Dock. It doesn't have detachable joycon. Valve sell official Dock for somewhere around 70£. You need to pay extra 80 to 100 dollars to have hybrit experience for steam deck. For Switch, it comes as hybrit system out of the box. That's why the price comparison is not really true.

I'm NOT paying $450 for this, especially when it won't have an OLED screen, is only $50 less than a PS5 and a Steamdeck OLED is $550. The bigger question is Nintendo's approach to regional pricing. The PS5 Slim Digital regularly goes on sale here for $480 CAD, which is $330 USD. If Nintendo doesn't account for regional pricing, they might launch with a system that is $100-150 more than a PS5.

I think the new meta is going to be people drifting back to single player games or just a few friends joining you. Having to Nerf everything and tweak everything just to appease everyone at once is never a good thing, it leaves you with a bland mess.

Selling MK9 for $50 in a bundle & $70 ala cart doesn't sound like Nintendo. Selling the base system for $429.99 & the bundle for $499.99, that's the Nintendo I know. Nintendo doesn't discount games.

A Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart 9 makes more sense if the game itself is a digital code. It could be a way to try push people towards buying their games digitally instead of physically, which we know all these publishers want.

I'm gonna be real. . . I can't justify a near $500 price point for an iterative mobile console that is only going to last one generation when I can get a mobile handheld pc for the same price but it's going to last so much longer cause PCs never get outdated. I like nintendo titles, but their games aren't worth that price point for an uninteresting platform. If there was something special about the switch 2, maybe, but there isn't.

450 wouldn't be that crazy. 50% more expensive than the original when it's leaps and bounds more powerful. Plus, for the original Switch I had to buy a pro controller and a game library, now I already have those. Nintendo's cheap image warps people's perception. 7 years ago people thought the original switch was too expensive. If it's a good product, you'll end up buying it.

9:20 Nintendo 64 NEVER had a pack in. In fact, in 96, THAT was actually big news because up until THAT point, Nintendo has always had a pack in unit. There were no more pack ins until Wii Sports. And as far as their portable series, Tetris was ever the only pack in for the original Gameboy in 89.

Spent maybe half an hour with Balatro and. . .what am I missing here? It's poker. With roguelike elements. And wildcards. I was hugely underwhelmed with the simplicity of the game and I guess requires someone with a tendency towards gambling? It's not a bad game, but I don't understand the hype at all for it when it feels like every other poker game I've ever played, just with multiplier bonuses to math out before playing.
