They're finally starting to figure out gamers can only play one time sink game at a time and they've already saturated the market!

Yeah regreting my nintendo purchases too .. I would like to play some of those games but when I want to play something I pick the superior device (SteamDeck) so Switch is just laying in my bedroom unused for long time ... I hate Nintendo cant cope with rest of the industry and release their games also on PC after a while (or leave emulation scene be) ... I will not buy anything from them in the future and I hope more ppl will do the same so they will eventually learn the hard way HW locking stuff is not the right way to the future.

I don't even buy games at 60€, so no 100€ games is a little too rich for my blood lol. This year we're getting so many cool indie games that I don't even care that much if triple AAA games don't interest me too much. I just hope the failure of so many live service games and the fact that Sony canceled several live service games is a sign of more single player goodness to come.

Price of games over time (taking inflation into account) is a very linear view imo. While the price of games has declined, the supply or selection of games has increased faster than inflation can hope to keep up. With so many games coming out, gamers are viewing time as the real cost of gaming. If it hurts their wallets too, I think you'll see a lot of people thinking twice about buying that $100 game. I think more of us will be holding off until that sale comes, save for a very select few of "must have" games.

I think that's why a lot of Publishers are sneaky and delist games on digital storefronts (as well as being against homebrew emulation). They don't want people paying cheaper older games because it hits their wallets.

@skycloud4802 there are so many games available that I honestly didn't even know this was a thing, at least not on PC. I definitely have seen this on consoles.

@@davidm7336 it's not as drastic on pc as on consoles. The likes of Nintendo and Sony can just shut down whole storefronts, eg 3DS and Wii U eshops. However, it's more of a slow drip. For example, games that go down to less than a fiver will disappear, and then a 'new' Gold Edition will reappear for like £20 or something. Sometimes those old games just leave forever, which is why it's important to nab them whilst you can. I'd be betting that Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic will be probably reappear under a subscription model.

@@skycloud4802 agreed. There are games I have digitally on PS3 that were not made available to me on my PS5. I'm also very surprised by how limited Nintendo's older library is absent from their Switch online subscription, or just in general on the Switch.

One of the things I love about pc gaming is the scalability of it. Games I could only play on low settings many years ago, I could now play at high graphics settings with better texture packs, shadows, and all the bells and whistles. With my Steam library, my current library of games are already my 'Remastered' version so to speak - I just need the better hardware to play them at that level, but they _are_ already there. On consoles, I'd probably be paying full price for a new remaster or cough up a small fee for a 'upgrade' pack. Another cool spin on this scalability is the lower end portable side of it. With Steam Deck and other pc handhelds, there's no need to buy a portable version or handheld port of my library. My current games will scale downwards as well as upwards (to varying degrees). The flexibility of pc games is just insane. The fact I can run many Windows games on Linux with Steam OS, is also incredible.

I'm not surprised considering that gaming on PC doesn't require an online subscription when compared to the same game on console. There is also the fact that you can get mini PCs for around $150 that could play lighter games, such as Roblox, Minecraft, and so on. Even a $250 Ryzen 5000 mini PC outperforms the Switch when playing the same game on Steam.

I have to agree with this report. I've sold over 70+ of my physical PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP, PSVita and PS5 games because once I bought the steam deck and paired it with my gaming pc, there was no need for thise platforms anymore due to emulation, free online and Xbox and PlayStation porting there games over to PC. If Nintendo starts doing the same, I'll have no need for the Switch 2

Games on PC generally get cheaper as time goes by, while console games are a set price for basically ever. Even used console games can't compare with a PC game discount if you're willing to be patient. Maybe some of this is people waking up and wanting to get more for their gaming dollar. I hope the $80+ GTA flops hard.

I get that video game prices have remained relatively static over the years but surely some of that has been off set by digital distribution, consumers paying for licenses rather than ownership, and companies reselling old games over and over again (looking at you Nintendo). GTA isn’t THAT good. Guys, Please don’t pay $100 bucks for that!

I think the other problem with GTA VI is that I don't know if many of us are in a position to actually play it. I know I'm not. I don't have the latest consoles (nor am I interested in them). And looking at the sheer ambition and scale of GTA VI, I don't think my Steam Deck is going to be able to handle it. My desktop is also ancient. So a $100/£100 price on top of any further 💲 💵 💵 💲 to upgrade hardware is going to really sting a lot. I can't justify it.
