Hi to all, the first video from Rosy Jones Locker for 2024 is a trip to North West Island with two of my grandsons, Jax and Jayden. North West Island is situated approximately 90 kilometers east from the mouth of Pumpkin Creek, which is a tidal estuary system at the southern end of Keppel Sands, on the Capricorn Coast, in Queensland Australia.
Pumpkin Creek is not a particularly deep creek system, and it is not commonly used by boaters apart from locals who have knowledge of this creek system or smaller vessels such as a tiny. At the beginning of this video, I provide footage of Pumpkin Creek at low tide (exposing rocks and sandbars) for the viewer and/or potential boaters who may consider launching their vessel from Pumpkin Creek. Coorooman Creek, just north of Keppel sands is a much-preferred option by most boaters.
Arriving at North West Island, the grandsons and I spent the afternoon fishing along the southern side of the Island. Have a peaceful and calm night’s sleep in the lee of the Island before continuing to fish throughout the following morning. We also set the spanner crab dillies late in the afternoon on the second day.
At the end of the video, I recap the events of the trip and discuss in some detail the spanner crabs and the crabbing gear I have for catching them.
