Dr. Furman - family physician, former competitive athlete, and a Sagittarius makes him a brilliant, driven, teacher (fire sign). To lecture for almost 2 hours straight and hold your attention from start to finish is a GIFTED educator. Delivering clear, concise FACT BOMBS really sets his presentation apart from the rest. How fortunate that he turned his passions to nutrition and longevity. 🌞🙏

He is so right. I’ve stopped eating processed food. I now eat only Whole Foods. I’m not on any diet, I don’t limit myself. I eat a lot. I’ve noticed that now I am satisfied with eating few mandarins for a dessert or watermelon. Before these foods just didn’t do it for me if you know what I mean. I really enjoy eating fruits now and veggies for snacks like cherry tomatoes or grapes or bell peppers. Once you stop eating the processed food and clean your body you won’t crave that junk and will enjoy Whole Foods as you should anyway.

A thousand years ago, none of this modern stuff existed. It’s a real relief to see how flavorful everything is once the Calorie-Rich, And Processed (CRAP) drugs made to look like food are gone. All-the-way wet, high volume, nutrient dense seems to be the way, indeed. And for all the people who don’t think the tastebuds change after removing ALL the garbage, I invite you to listen to the lectures and talks by Nathan Pritikin. The doctors told him the human body cannot regrow blood vessels. That’s what the medical establishment thought/believed in the 60s. And it took them over 20 years to put this understanding into their practices. We’re at war with industry here. The strange thing about war is, it just shows up. Doesn’t ask you to to come inside - it knocks down the walls. And you can act like it’s not going on. You can decide to not fight the war in front of you. You just die. And the world moves on and forgets all about the cowards who laid down for death because it tastes good. Nothing tastes better than feeling good, feeling well, feeling ON FIRE, ready for any fight that pops up AT ANY TIME. Stay in the fight. And EVERYTHING TASTES GOOD. Pleasure is relative. It readjusts as your habits and experiences change. Don’t believe me? Go to jail. You’ll find things you like more and things you like less about jail. Amazing rest. Surrounded by complete idiots. There’s good and bad, better and worse, in everything. The brain is really good at finding the split between what it likes more and less. Have some faith in the universe - it sure had A LOT of faith in YOU.

An outstanding, excellent presentation (as always).... Dr. Fuhrman is a genius and a gift to us all. My parents would still be here if they'd followed these principles. Mom was type 2 diabetic with hypertension. She progressed into a very sad decline while being on those exact medications the Dr's put her on. It was a trip to hell in her senior years. Despite all these medications, her BP and diabetes were never controlled. All the nutritional dietician advice was totally wrong. My father was at an ideal weight and walked a lot, but he ate so much processed food, hotdogs, cold cuts, meat, and olive oil, wine etc. He died from 3 different cancers, each one struck 2 years apart. The final cancer was glioblastoma. Again, a trip to hell in his senior years. I'm never going to eat the SAD ever again. Nothing but nutritarian for me.

@@jackiefloretan Ah, at least you're not that far! Usually this conference takes place for the whole week, including the weekend, so perhaps you could make a trip up here and see the weekend presentations next year! (It took place in a hotel, so a lot of people coming from far simply checked in). This particular presentation by Dr. Fuhrman was on a Friday I believe, and it was the only day I was free to go, so I'm glad he was presenting that day. I was super excited bc I had been following him for years before! I am pursuing becoming a physician myself, and he's one of my biggest role models. He was really happy to hear that :) Integrative/holistic/functional medicine with focus on nutrition and lifestyle is truly the key to healing! I've been researching nutritional biochemistry since taking an amazing course about it in college. It's truly fascinating what these phytonutrients due at the cellular level! From molecular pathways to epigenetic mechanisms, etc. It's truly amazing! Anyway, sorry for the long message, I get excited about this stuff, lol. I've accumulated a ton of resources on this over the years, and follow many doctors/scientists/researchers/nutritionists who have the same mission, and get their emails (I like staying on top of the current research). Anyway, if you'd like to connect and talk more about this, feel free to email me! My email is: bryante7751@gmail.com Looking forward to hearing from you, cheers to good health!

@Rita Cruz Depends on how much you're eating and how much weight you want to lose and how quickly you want to lose it. Tahini is a very calorie rich food and the goal in losing weight is to eat as much (high nutrient) low calorie plant food as you can. If you're going to eat tahini, only use it as a part of a salad dressing, never by itself, on sandwiches, in smoothies, etc. Be very conservative with these high calorie foods.

I developed A fib this year, and the beta blockers caused a 10 pound weight gain in just two months. I did plant-based five years ago and felt so much better, but fell off the wagon because I didn't make it a lifestyle. When I had my heart ultrasound for the A fib diagnosis, I didn't have blockages or abnormalities, and I credit the few years of plant-based that I had done previously. I'm convinced that plant-based/Nutritarian is the way to go, and I'm going to get my act together. This video was just what I needed. Thank you!

Why can't doctors understand that you can share this amazing science without fat-shaming people? It never helps anyone. No one wants to be overweight. The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, yet people seem to think every overweight person just "isn't trying". Mental health is health, too. Share your science and stop fat-shaming.

I like that it's about what we're eating and that all Americans are overweight. i.e. it's not something wrong with you: You're not gluttonous and slothful - you're just eating foods that force you to overeat calories and be micronutrient deprived. You're gluttonous because your diet is glutinous. Anyway, not sure what you're saying about doctors. They - generally - are clueless. If they're saying people shouldn't be overweight, it's true that it really hurts your health, but if they don't know how to do that or teach it.

Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman. An excellent and very compelling presentation. But with all the studies showing the danger of consuming animal products, are there any studies definitively showing that adding moderate amounts of exclusively grass-fed meat and/or wild-caught fatty fish to a mostly plant-based diet is detrimental to human health? It looks like most of the epidemiological studies were based on widely consumed NON-grass-fed animal products. And there seems to be a logical explanation for the observed chronic decease-promoting effects - the unhealthy, inflammation-promoting omega-6/omega-3 ratio. But organic grass-fed animal products and wild-caught fatty fish have healthy, anti-inflammatory omega-6/omega-3 ratios and, potentially could be therapeutic and health-promoting (to be explicitly verified or refuted). Also, there are some encouraging examples of healthy diets containing high-quality, non-commercial animal products - the "Mediterranean diet" (albeit it has many other contributing variables, so the specific health effects of each of the variables is not clear) and an epidemiological study in Tanzania directly comparing (heart, as I recall,) health of genetically homogeneous people from two villages, with the ONLY observable difference of one of the villages (the one closer to the sea) adding fish to the otherwise common purely plant-based diet. And the firm conclusion of that particular study was that adding fish was health-promoting.

Great lecture. I absolutely love listening to Dr. Fuhrman! I need your opinion, please feel free to answer. I eat a healthy whole food plant based diet, no animal products, no oil, and no more than 2 slices of Ezekiel bread a day. I keep salt consumption very low. My blood pressure is still fairly high despite all this effort. My cardiologist who also promotes plant based nutrition asked me to leave out seeds, nuts and high fat foods like avocado and tofu. He said this may help bring the blood pressure down. He said he has other patients who ate healthy and who still had HBP were able to bring down there BP by eliminating these foods. I took a 23 and me DNA test that indicated that I have a sensitivity to saturated fat. My doctor agreed I have a sensitivity to fat and especially saturated fat. He said nuts have saturated fat as well as avocado and seeds, and this may be the reason I have HBP. I am 58 years old, weight 106 lbs and I am 5’2”. Currently my heart, brain and carotid arteries are in good condition thank God, and I want to keep it that way, but the high blood pressure is still there. I exercise 6 times a week. I take BP medication Candesartan 4 mg twice a day (8 mg total). With medication my BP hovers around on average 133/79 (average after the last 32 readings). This recommendation by my cardiologist goes against what Dr. Fuhrman is suggesting about nuts and seeds. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance to all who reply. 💖💖💖

For my family, my half-sister ate all day every day, she ate eggs, meat, cheese, and refined sugar. She was diabetic and morbidly obese. Unfortunately, she resorted to going to Mexico to have an unsuccessful gastric surgery. She eventually had fat surgically removed from all around her waist and arms and legs.

Most comments are positive but some of you are floating blissfully down de Nial River. You are addicted to foods that were designed to make you addicted and you don't want to give them up and would rather die. You look for any possible discrepancy in what this man is saying and ignore all the truth your ears are hearing. Like the poster who said the original owner of KFC lived to be 90 eating his product every day and Dr. F "lied" and said all those fast food owners died early. Even if true, which is highly unlikely, come on--so what? The science studied by multiple people over decades backs what Dr. F. is saying. But people cringe away from truth like a vampire trying to escape garlic--all for the love of Kentucky Fried cancer and all the rest of the junk. Wake up!

The biggest problem with strict vegan diets is vitamin B12. Without supplementation, there is no way to get vitamin B12 unless you eat animal foods. The consequences of a B12 deficiency are extremely devastating. It often takes many years to show up because the liver stores vitamin B12.

Somebody explain me why and how may potatoes be bad for my health?
@bryant475
@bryant475 5 жыл бұрын
Potatoes are high glycemic, so they raise your blood sugar fast. This causes insulin spikes and IGF-1 release, leading to inflammation and unnecessary growth (cancer). It's also high in calories and starch and relatively low in nutrients. Sweet potatoes are better options, as are purple potatoes. This the same reason why white rice and white bread aren't healthy. With white bread it's also the processing.
@PotitoGradone
@PotitoGradone 5 жыл бұрын
@@bryant475 I dont know where you got the science to back your claim 🤔. Potatoes are whole foods whose starch and fiber slow down sugar absorption considerably. Hence, they are the perfect food for humans because they don't provoke insulin spikes. ILGF-1 is exogenous (mainly form dairy) and does certainly not come from potatoes. Dr. McDougall would have his hair spike on his head by reading what you claim about starches! 😆😉
@bryant475
@bryant475 5 жыл бұрын
@@PotitoGradone www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16087978/ It is well known that high glycemic foods raise IGF-1 by causing insulin spikes. This doesn't happen as drastically with, sweet potato for example. That's why it's healthier to consume sweet potato and purple potatoes, than it is to consume regular white potatoes. You also get more nutrients/calorie from these as well. I'm a big fan of Mcdougall btw, so I'm not discrediting his work, but he'd also agree that the starches in sweet potatoes are much more healthy. You also get quite a bit of resistant starches from legumes, particularly black beans and lentils, as Dr. Fuhrman says in this presentation.
@kh485
@kh485 4 жыл бұрын
I thought IGF-1was mostly increased by consumption of meat and animal products. In other words, it’s the animal protein. I don’t know if white Potatoes are inherently bad, I think they’re just not the most nutrient dense choices. That’s why Dr. Fuhrman recommends other foods preferentially. Also, Dr. Furman tries to differentiate himself from other vegan doctors which recommend starchy vegetables as a foundation like Dr. McDougall.

While I agree with the basic premise of what this Dr is saying, what is his argument regarding the denatured fruits and veggies that we eat today due to heavy pesticides, denatured soil and such? IMO, no one can rely on eating foods for optimal health anymore. Like he said, that chart he showed was from the 1970s. There are statistics that state that raw food have 450% less nutrition today than the 1970s.

It's still better to eat a nutritarian diet, no matter what, than to throw up your hands and die early and sick ordering off that Kentucky Fried cancer and artery-clogging butter and bread menu. Dr. Fuhrman says things like, “know what I mean?” and, “what I’m saying is …” I like this. We’re talking about the survival of the human species here. Imagine if everyone were eating glass. Or better yet, remember in the movie “Idiocracy” when the people talk about why they’re feeding soda to their crops? It’s like that. Here we are. Dr. Fuhrman and Dr. McDougall and maybe even Dr. Goldhamer, along with Dr. Lyle are adding stress and emphasis to the way they deliver the correct message. I’d like to see much, much more of this. We’re being exterminated. We’re at war.
