On May 25, 2023, Dr. Joel Fuhrman explained the importance of understanding serious health risks associated with processed and fast food consumption, even from occasional use. These “Frankenfoods” do not merely increase death from heart disease and cancer, but also impair the human brain, creating depression, lowering intelligence, and increasing propensity for drug abuse and crime. Importantly, the worst food choices create food addiction, leading to excessive caloric intake and dependency.
Learning objectives of this presentation will be:
- Mechanisms of food addition, both stimulatory excitation and withdrawal symptoms
- Recognizing and dealing with emotional obstacles for healthful eating and weight loss
Joel Fuhrman, M.D. is a board-certified family physician, seven-time New York Times best-
selling author and internationally recognized expert on nutrition and natural healing. He specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional methods. Dr. Fuhrman is the President of the Nutritional Research Foundation and on the faculty of Northern Arizona University, Health Sciences division. He coined the term “Nutritarian” to describe a nutrient-dense eating style, designed to prevent cancer, slow aging, and extend lifespan.
For over 30 years, Dr. Fuhrman has shown that it is possible to achieve sustainable weight loss and reverse heart disease, diabetes and many other illnesses using smart nutrition. In his medical practice, and through his books and television specials, he continues to bring this life-saving message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
Dr. Fuhrman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) School of Medicine
(1988) and has received the St. Joseph’s Family Practice Resident’s Teaching Award for his
contribution to the education of family practice residents; and a C3 Cardiology Global Health Award for teaching nutritional science to cardiologists.
Dr. Fuhrman operates the Eat To Live Retreat in San Diego. At this residential facility, people from all over the world come to stay for 4-12 weeks to recover from conditions ranging from cardiovascular disease to autoimmune disease, food addiction and more. They also gain the skills and knowledge to make these changes permanent when they leave the retreat.
A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Dr. Fuhrman is a former world-class figure skater, who placed second in the United States National Pairs Championships in 1973 and third in the 1976 World Professional Pairs Skating Championship in Jaca, Spain. Along with his nutritional expertise, Dr. Fuhrman has been involved professionally with sports medical committees, advised professional and Olympic athletes, and has lectured to athletic trainers and world-class athletes about maximizing performance and preventing injury.

What some people call comfort eating I call discomfort eating. I never feel bad when I eat WFPB. When I ate pastries, cheesy pizza, etc. I felt ashamed within seconds of finishing my meal or even while I was eating it. The dopamine effect faded quickly, I just ate to avoid toxic hunger. I am so glad those dark days are behind me and I am now confident that whatever I go through in life, whatever stress, etc. I will not go bad to a SAD diet.

I'm 8 years into plant-based eating. There is no doubt that I feel best when I eat best. When I occasionally find my self eating more processed food, I just don't feel as well. I am 61 years old, not taking any prescriptions, and commute to work by bicycle. I do take B12 and Vitamin D. Good luck to you all on your own health journeys.

It is so crazy how much WHOLE FOODS have been adulterated. So good to get the perspective that processed foods in any way is NOT food.

I love how Dr. Fuhrman never minces words, he tells it like it is. I recently completely quit refined sugar and flour and my brain is coming back online. I'm following a plant exclusive version of the bean protocol because I'm pretty insulin resistant, elevated cortisol and adrenaline and estrogen dominant. Eating beans 3 to 8+ times/day, depending on one's health condition, helps lower excess hormones which allows the body to truly recover at the cellular metabolic level. I also started rebounding 1-2 times/day this week rather than continuing to burn out my adrenals with intense weight training/HIIT exercise. The rebounder really is the best exercise ever, I feel "rinsed out" inside after, really balanced and am much more flexible. The weight loss isn't over night like it was in my 20's, but I'm feeling so much better, and it is coming off. High nutrient content with lots of legumes, rebounding and walking in nature for life

Truth, it worked for me, my wife and my 34 year old daughter. We have been eating whole plants for the past 15 years and haven’t been sick since we went that route. But then again we just are anecdotes, don’t have to believe what I say, just follow the science. Thanks Dr. Fuhrman for been here when we needed you the most.

Great information!!! Thank you for sharing the TRUTH. It’s not easy at first, but is simple. Than it becomes a no brained! Sustainable and so worth it. I am 3 yrs into eating WFPB low SOS. It had helped me in many ways , maintain BMI of 19 even after having a baby. It’s a life saver for me and my husband who has familial hypercholestermia.

You can always experiment WFPB foods with yourself to find out if it works for you. There is no negative side effects with this experiment. You have nothing to loose. I strongly recommend everyone to give it a try for themselves.

I m very greatfull for this information. It's videos like this that have helped me to transformed my health from (what I though was) great (no disease and no risk factors) in 2019 on a balanced omnivore diet to extraordinary in 2023. Not a single sick day in the last 4 years, without any sort of medical intervention whatsoever (except for 2 series of blood tests just to check everything is ok).

No chance of a piece of 🥩 being eaten fast and no chance of it being overindulged. Whether you choose WFPB or Carnivore we can agree that certain foods are best avoided. Foods that have been adulterated and manufactured to be Blissful when eaten which bypass / hyjack our senses should be avoided. Thank you for uploading and sharing.

I've just worked out my BMI, it's 18 and it says I could put on 2 stones and still be a healthy weight. No way! I have been 2 stones overweight and I looked like a fat barrel. I don't think BMI is a trustworthy way of calculating a healthy weight. I am still a couple of pounds overweight so go figure! Doctors too are so used to seeing overweight and obese people, they are "scared" of anyone slim being anorexic! On a WFPB way of living I eat more than on a SAD diet

It’s not, you’re right. I’m 40 years old and after depression, I’m 134.5 lb and look like a cow at 5’10” because my normal weight is 116 lb. But everyone says: you’re making this up, you’re skinny COMPARED TO OTHERS! Why would I compare myself to others? I compare how I look and feel at 134.5 lb to how I look and feel at 116lb, and I feel fat, sick, and miserable now, so I’m back to working out and doing what he recommends.

If you have a reaction to that question then just rest in it. Your mind doesn't have to lurk anywhere into some other conclusion. Enjoy the thought that you are in control of your thinking. The right reasons are obvious but are usually otherwise overlooked. You are better being you than anyone else.

This diet makes me feel weak and miserable. I find that I can't get beyond my intolerance of salicylates, oxalates, lectins and fructose....so if I eat more than a minute amount of fruits, veg and nuts/seeds I just want to go to bed or cry....or can't work due to too much brain fog and pain. I guess everyone is different. If I don't eat meat and lots of fat every day I lose too much weight as well because other food won't stay in my body long enough.

I have such respect for Dr Fuhrman, I eat as he suggest, I feel amazing, my blood pressure is now normal after being on blood pressure meds for 6 years, and I lost two pounds or more a week when I first began and lost the 10 lbs I wanted to lose, and was having trouble actually doing so, within three weeks I was at my goal weight. Thank you Dear Doctor 🫑❤️🥬

Think this post is maybe what you refer. Natural Hygiene was taught by Natives to USA medical people & those teachings remained the law of the land up until the late 1800's when big pharma began to take over making Natural Hygiene unjustly obsolete until early 1900's when Herbert M. Shelton re founded the orthopaedic practice at his health sanatoriums & by the 1950's he ran for potus, but big oil land grabs & big pharma swindles had a monopoly by then, also it was further corrupted by the liquor industry that had spiraled out of control as a drug of choice ever since the 1930's. So it is way past time to make Natural Hygiene a part of our daily lives again, as the once sober apple cart was upset too many times over the years by oppressive governmental inebriated addicts who have been increasingly abusing a once sound medical practice here in America for far too long. Here is my take on needed improvements for those who have yet them or even considered changing these corrupt current laws yet. Back around the 70's regan began shutting down state hospitals to save taxes for the rich resulting in an ever increasing spiral of homeless street people & overcrowded prisons. Regan was inebriated on his bubbly. That points to another mess up that occurred back in the 30's when they made alcohol their drug of choice as legal recreation & criminalized other intoxicants. Past time for a resolution to both these gross errors. 1- make all drugs & alcohol legal medically with supervision. 2-drug & alcohol test all law enforcement, politicians, & gun owners at their own expense, never illegal recreation. Until those insane obsolete laws are changed with appropriate resolutions the errors of the past will continue to escalate.

What about Dr John McDougall insistence that we are starchovoures. I don't understand his reasoning behind the starch diet because as a type 2 diabetic one potatoes will send my sugar very high.
@OfficiallyXgotcha34
@OfficiallyXgotcha34 Жыл бұрын
Because sugar isn’t what causes diabetes. It’s a high fat and higher animal protein diet that does it. The body need glucose for energy. While natural sugar found in plants combined with the fiber is very good for the body. Isolated sugar and refined sugar is bad
