Thank you so much for sharing! One question about the base. It looks like the cinderblocks/piers are on top of another rock foundation. How do you make sure there is no water wicking up and ruining the cob?

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful video! The way you applied the mud to the wood without a chicken wire, it that will stay and won’t separate from wood once is dry?

This is very affordable and easy on the environment. What happens if one of those LED lights burns out in those bottles, how would you replace it?

Miguel, I love the pallet idea, but what about mold spores from the pallets? Do you bleach the material? How do you handle that?

My land seems to have a lot of termites. I heard pallets are already termite proof but I’m not sure. Anyone know if it would be ok to add some borax into the cob to deter termites?
@keralee2 жыл бұрын
I would. Also sprinkle some under the foundation blocks.
@newolde18 ай бұрын
I'd think that immersing or at least spraying down the pallets in a boric acid solution would be wise. Similar to what is done to treat bamboo. I'd guess that those tenacious termites will likely find their way in through the cob to the wood even if the cob is treated. A bit of extra work but worth it if you want it to really stand the test of time.

Question How do you waterproof the Cob House?
@MattPowersSoil5 жыл бұрын
You seal it when you paint it and let it dry :)

What kind of paint? Any kind of paint?
@keralee2 жыл бұрын
I developed a cob/mud plaster that was waterproof and works great by adding a tiny bit of portland (really not much) and a bit of oil. I used used motor oil but one could buy linseed oil instead. The oil made is very smooth and more workable, able to apply thicker, never cracked, hard and completely beaded off water. Still good 20 years later.

When you say add more sand you mean just add more dirt to the mix until it’s 70% sand 30% clay ?
