This is a beautiful home! How nice that you could incorporate so many local resources. In 2007, my daughter and I (and our wonderfully helpful friends) built a round, straw bale chicken coop. I love round structures, and the chickens seem to, as well!

Wow, Michael I am like so totally impressed. You sir are not only a genius but a man of many incredible talents. Not only that but you are living the dream! I'm so much like you. I'm 65, an artist, poet, been self employed as a chimney sweep for 25 years and yes! I even built fireplaces. Now I do remodeling and painting but my dream now is to sell the poetry I have written and my books and build a home just like you got! I have been looking at octagon and round houses for months. I have looked at probably a hundred and your house is in the top 5 as far as Im concerned. Maybe some day I can come out and visit. I am also big time into gardening and I grow most of my own food. Job well done my man you are a unique and rare individual in todays techno stink world. LOL

What I love about straw bale construction is eliminating flat walls and right angle connections instead, there are curves in the walls and space can be made into round spaces. So cool!

In Mexico the haciendas were made of red clay with straw and or regular Mud and then used white paint made of limestone

The were made from river silt so you would not have to dig hard, compacted earth. The river did the hard work for you. You scooped up the soft silt to put in baskets which in turn would put into a wagon or wheel-barrow to be placed on site.
