I'm the mom of 8 of my 8 , 5 have Autism. They range in age from 30 yrs - 12 yrs. We have been homeschooling for what seems like forever. We have found that CLE , Rod and Staff as well as things like McGuffey , Ray's Math and old public domain materials have really hit the mark.

Our child is on public school right and use Singapore Math and Kumon workbooks + doing works at the center to supplement his studies. Though we are really considering to homeschool him next school year.

I just wanted to say thank you!!! I just came across your videos and they are excellent! You also have such a beautiful, upbeat personality! I always wanted to homeschool my children but it was not an option my ex-husband would consider. My 3 babies are grown now and I'm on to grandma stage. I did remarry a wonderful man who has a son (now 21) with autism and learning disabilities. He lived with us for a short time when he was in elementary school and has currently been back with us since he graduated high school. I have been struggling the last 4+ years to help him continue to learn. He is doing 2nd-3rd grade curriculum in most subjects. You have given me some great resources to check into but I am wondering what would be your #1 go to would be to help him enjoy reading more and comprehend what he is reading? I feel we could move on to so much more if I could help him with that! Thanks again for your videos and have a very Merry Christmas!!

Honestly, reading is so tricky. Have you considered just taking a break for a while to get the bee out of his bonnet? If you're up for something fun and hands on, All About Reading. Or Phonics Museum, which is a fun animated app but also comes with the cd version. But with my little one, we're just taking a reading break and trying not to think about him being 'behind'. Because I think he's ahead in other stuff, he's loving learning, and soon reading will click. Does that help?

Yes, good question. Rosetta Stone is a good replacement. I don't know their theology but they list it on Christianbooks.com so I feel it must be decent in that way.

Maybe Rosetta Stone :) Depends what you're using it for though. I use compass Classroom for visual latin. But in a way, nothing is as animated and fun as duolingo and you certainly can't beat the free price... although they serve up enough ads to make it worth their while.

My daughter is in the 9th grade but her development level is more like a two to four year old. I don't really see or understand how any of these programs will apply to her? If I start her off at a Kindergarten level, will it satisfy the state requirement? (I'm in Texas.)

Hmm... yes, I don't know if they would be suitable. I'm not an expert on special needs and it's such a tricky area as so many SN kids are so different!!! Have you tried getting in contact with specific SN Facebook groups and putting your situation forward and asking them what they think? That would be my first stop I think. Hope that's helpful 🙂

No sorry. I don't know if I know them in that much detail. But could you get a program that reads out text? That way you could get something you like and then just have the audio component to help.

I have a 4 year old with autism I work full-time at a prison for now 6 years and I have 6 children. Im thinking about quitting my job next August so I can be home with him.

Thanks for commenting friend. As a Christian, what makes something the BEST is that it shows people The Way, The Truth, and The Life. I can't in good faith recommend something that I don't think is the best. It just feels hollow to me. Jesus is truly the best thing in all of life. I'm not talking about religion, but Jesus. @@howtohomeschool Most Christians also believe in transparency. You'd also get more views from your intended audience if you disclosed. Or at least labelled the video as such- "BEST CURRICULUM FOR AUTISTIC KIDS WITH CHRISTIAN PARENTS"

Yeah, it's quite woke. That's why I stopped using it. It promotes drag queens etc.

We don’t want to expose our kids to that lifestyle, just as is the case with anything inappropriate for little innocent minds, which has nothing to do with being against people for being gay or trans.
