Hello, just looking for a few teen-friendly insurance companies that would cover southern California. I have a 21 year old, 19 year old, and soon to be 18 year old and I am about to add the 21 year old and soon to be 18 year old to the policy. I know we are going to take a big hit but I want to try and minimize it. Also have a micro, micro business (drive less than 6,000 miles a year) and we need to try and drop the costs there as well. thanks in advance for any information you can provide, and thanks for the fantastic videos. Still working my way through them!

I would check with cover (link is in the description) because they shop 30 companies, one being, Grange and i think National General who are fairly competitive there. Other than that, Esurance would be a back up

What happens if you insure a kid under a cheap car but they almost never drive that car and they only drive a more expensive car and what if they get in a accident in the car that’s more expensive?
@ThinkInsurance2 жыл бұрын
The car would be covered is a covered driver crashed it unless, there is an exclusion or specific wording against it in your policy However, it’s a form of Fraud to lie about what car each driver drives to lower the cost. It’s risk avoidance.

After checking some sources the $150 seems to be normal. What you can do is check with Wawanesa and Grange to compare since they are competitive with young drivers. If it’s not affordable you can exclude your son from the policy but be careful. You might want to watch my video about excluding drivers if you do.

The best way to get an accurate quote is to find a VIN for a car you’ll likely buy and change it on your policy. Just don’t save it. You’ll likely pay 30%+ more outing full coverage on it.

In my experience the most competitive companies for teens in CA are going to be Esurance, Geico and 21st Century - Just be careful to know what coverages you want before you call them because they are not the best at recommending them. @ThinkInsurance4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your finances. For a normal family no. Start off with a good used car that you don’t have to put full coverage on. That is the most budget friendly. That being said, if you or your family has a larger income then yes the Jetta is a good vehicle. Repairs are more expensive on it but a decent vehicle none the less. If you’re concerned about the cost it will have on insurance, get a VIN (vehicle identification number) from one online you are looking at and get a quote or two. That will give you an idea of the insurance cost.

This video is hands down the best video I have seen when it comes to tips on insurance discounts. I am currently 15 years old, and I am going to be getting my permit in about a month. I am in CT right now, and if a driver takes an advanced driving course, they can get there license 6 months after they have gotten there permit. So I will most likely have my permit in January of this year, and I will most likely be driving a 2008 Volvo XC70 with about 170,000 miles on it. I have a gpa above 3.0 also. Need advice, I have a 15 and 17 yr old just getting their permits. one is an honor student the other isn't. We are Kansas City Mo residents. I have a 15 passenger van that they will be driving sometimes but my other has a car they like to drive and is smaller. But she has different insurance than I do. I have none but I will be getting some so the kids can drive. My mother doesn't want to add them on her insurance and mine too. That would be too much to pay. So how to I ensure the kids on both vehicles? FYI both the kids will be working this summer. They are already hired on.
@ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
My buddy lives in Kansas City MO! It sounds like you're going to need to get your own insurance if your mom doesn't want to add them, although it is cheaper that way since she has more "driving history" than you. As long as you're the registered owner of one or more of the vehicles you can always get your own insurance and add your kids under you. Depending on the rules of the company you are with now you might be able to get a "non-owner" policy for your kids to cover any liability limit without adding them to your mom's policy. You would have to ask since technically they would have their own insurance. It's very unlikely they will let you do that but it's an option. Normally when your kids get a permit it won't cost anything until they are fully licensed so you may have "some" time to figure it out. It might make sense to have them added to your mom's policy for a short time and then if they buy a junker vehicle to get their own insurance since they'll be working. Adding them to your mom's policy will give them "prior insurance" which makes a HUGE difference in the quotes you get. I hope this helps!!
@TheAstroble5 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkInsurance I have only had my insurance lapse for a month on my van. I just need a way for them to be able to drive all the vehicles and be insured to do that. @ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
You could either title the car to her and have her insure it which is the easiest but likely the most expensive or you put her on your insurance and list her address for the vehicle. Some companies won't let you do this, they may make you create an entirely new policy under your name since you are the registered owner and then she would be listed as a primary driver but you pay the bill. or since your mom sounds like the legal guardian, add her to mom's policy. This one makes the most sense (but you'll have to title the car to mom)

The cheapest option is likely to join your moms policy and simply have them add you and your car to it. I would recommend talking to her first to see if she’s okay with it vs calling geico directly.

@ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
If you have money I would start by looking into getting the careless driving reduced or removed from your record. It can be done but is expensive $300+ check the app “off the record” In the meantime try to get a vehicle that doesn’t require you to add full coverage (comprehensive and collision) to keep the costs low. Save up as much as you can because with being under 25 yrs old and having that ticket it’s not going to be cheap. Before you buy the car you should check prices from 3-5 companies. Likely high risk places to start and then in 6 months you can recheck to likely get lower rates. Feel free reach out if you need help or advice when the time comes

Hey I’m 16 and I’m looking towards getting a used car how do I get insurance for myself considering the fact that no one in my family drives? Is there even a way I could do that? Or should I go ask someone that works for an insurance company in person like set up an appointment or something?
@ThinkInsurance4 жыл бұрын
You will want your parents with you. Some companies require consent if you’re under the age of 18 but I think you can still get prices if you call. Just don’t make it an issue when you call

Hey I’m from Georgia and planning to buy an Infiniti G37 coupe what do you expect my rates to be.. I’m 16
@ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
I wish it was that simple to calculate. It is def expensive for someone under 25 with that type of vehicle (Infinity is known to be more expensive on gas and insurance). Having prior insurance or being on a parents policy will help the price but overall the factors that make up the price are different with every individual. You may have to call several companies to get an idea. I do recommend if you're not familiar with coverage to watch my insurance 101 video. That will help give you a place to start before calling companies.

神Tokyo hey I know it’s a little late, but if you’re still planning to get a g37 coupe, don’t. You’ll be infinitely better off buying a g35 pre ‘05 if you want the brembo kit. It’s cheaper to buy, maintain, and they’re just as reliable. It’s honestly more economically smart to buy the car cheaper when you think about the repairs that come with owning a g35 I.e oil, gas sensor replacement, clutch/slave cylinder if you choose a manual. The extra “luxury” features and horsepower just isn’t worth it for a new driver. Hope my insight might help

I will also take my behind the wheel test at the school. What would you recommend with decent coverage and potentially lower rates.

You're in luck. Colorado is the one state that gives you average prices depending where you live. I don't know how accurate they are but here is the link. www.dora.state.co.us/pls/real/Ins_Survey_Reports.Report_Selection_Criteria?p_report_id=AUTO&p_label=

I live in California and will be getting my permit next year. My grades are perfect. Quick question, will having a 4.0 gpa get me more discounts than a 3.0 student? And what do you think my monthly cost will be and the best insurance company? Also, I want a Toyota 86 as my first car so will it increase my monthly payment? Thanks.
@ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
The 4.0 vs a 3.0 in my experience won’t give you more of a discount. In CA the prices are different for just about anyone across the board. I would call esurance, 21st Century and Geico.

@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
Geico and NJM (New Jersey Manufacturers) is likely going to offer the best price with your son. Have you thought of insuring him separately? Some companies will let you list him as insured elsewhere or remove him all together. If he doesn’t own a car he can get liability only other wise known as a non owners policy.

Mark: Hi! Appreciate the video. I do have question, we live in Houston TX. If I have a teenager (16 yrs old good student) who will be exclusively allowed to use only one vehicle, would it be better if I get a separate insurance for his car with only he and I on it? The two other vehicles (mine and my wife), I plan to insure on a separate policy with a different company. Those same three cars are with Geico right now and they want to jack up the rate by 1,000/six month just to add him. Any suggestions if that's a good approach and any suggestions on company to check? Thanks!
@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
Typically it is cheaper to have everyone under the same policy since you have more driving experience and likely better credit. In TX try Farm Bureau, Progressive or State Farm unless you or your spouse have military backgrounds then, USAA is likely going to do well. If your teen gets a ticket or in an at fault accident then it would make sense to have him get his own policy.

Hi Mark! Me and my family just moved to the US (Orlando, FL) and bought two cars, which we insured immediately, after doing some shopping , since rates were enormous at first. Now my son (15) and my daughter (17) are getting their FL driving permits and want to drive. We contacted our current insurance co. and let me just say that they are out of their mind. What can I do??
@ThinkInsurance5 жыл бұрын
Until they are licensed you likely won’t have the price increase but when they are it will be expensive!l. Farm bureau, USAA and Geico would be some possible options to start with.

@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can be added to her insurance as a driver. If you buy your own vehicle you’ll likely need your own policy unless the company allows you to add it to hers and you live in the house as your primary residence.

I we are beginning to look for our daughters 1st vehicle. We are looking at older model full size to small pickups (she works on a farm). Is this a smart decision? If not what vehicles are most cost efficient where it pertains to insurance for a new driver ?
@ThinkInsurance4 жыл бұрын
I think a good used truck would be a good move. Especially since she works on a farm. If it’s a started truck that doesn’t need full coverage that would be cheapest

Thank you for responding, we are shopping around for insurance. we are currently with Safeco, but we have been told horror stories in regards to insuring her in general. Should we have a stand alone policy for her or add her to our existing policy ? And lastly in addition to liability, what other coverage should we consider ?
@ThinkInsurance4 жыл бұрын
@@sugarbsgiftsdecormore9272 I would make sure you have enough liability but add her to your policy. If you've been with Safeco for more than a year they usually give you a discount (I think it's 27%) when you add your teen to help with the cost. Other than that, I like AAA for the road service but make sure you have the Superior or Ultra package if your budget allows. In Michigan those give you a percentage back every 6 months (I think 5%) and accident forgiveness if one of you has had one. Those are some items I would talk to your local agent about.

I’m looking for a better insurance company. I’m not sure how much insurance I need for my daughter. Currently she’s under my insurance (Horace Mann for educators) full coverage on her 2012 Beetle 2 door hatch back. She drives 10 miles one way to school 2 days a week to college and about a 5 mile radius on weekends. I still owe 8k on her car. My coverage for her right now is 100/300/100. I’m paying 166.00 a month (at least that’s what I was told yesterday by HM) How much coverage does she need? Can you recommend any companies in Sacramento Ca 95843? Thanks so much
@ThinkInsurance7 жыл бұрын
+doriestes2468 oh my, CA is one of the most competitive states. There are so many companies I would check with. Maybe start with: Nationwide, Geico, and Progressive. Make sure you are the primary and they know you are a teacher and that your daughter is driving really low miles. If she’s getting a 3.0 or better on her grades she might qualify for the good student discount. Here is a video that may help with discounts kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIaVpYd9dpipe8k Remember, since you are the guardian, if you don’t have enough coverage and your daughter causes a major accident, they would likely go after you for any liability that is exceeded. 100/300/100 is pretty decent. You can see what coverages are better in my 101 video kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmK4coV5iappqck

To start most companies won’t make you list them until they have a full license. Either way you go it will get expensive with 2 teens just starting to drive. American Family, Farm Bureaus, and Travelers will be competitive for your drivers there.

Can you suggest me which car is perfect for a College student?
@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
Being a college student doesn’t make much of a difference. If you’re under 25 you can use your grades if you have a 3.0 or better to get a discount. If you’re parents are still your legal guardians you could go on their policy as a student or away at school student. If you’re 100 miles or more away that is a discount their will get. If they have a good driving record it’s the cheapest way to go. Let me know how it works out.

+Aspiring Antonio No, if one of you are insuring him then you should be okay with "most" companies. Technically whoever has the most custody is the one that is responsible to insure him unless the court says otherwise.

Hi Mark, sorry I have another question. You mentioned having liability-only insurance with the child only and being a non-owner of the vehicle. Are there any possibilities to have liability-only when I own the vehicle and also would that be combined with my parents insurance or my own insurance with another company. Again, thank you for your time, Victor.
@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
If you own a car you will want to be insured on that not just a non-owner only. It's only there if you want to insure yourself if you were going to drive someone else's car. If you didn't have a car and you have a license but your parents insurance was forcing you to be insured then you would get a non-owners policy so they can not have to pay for you on their policy assuming the company allows that. Some have different requirements.

Look forward to hearing any input or advice or recommendations thank you again

I couldn’t tell you what it would cost but I can’t imagine it will be cheap by any means. Driving history is a factor based on how long he’s been licensed. If you are going to register it to you, he can be listed as the driver which would be a lot less expensive.
@victorbulat3436 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I wanted to let you know how helpful this video was, and it is a really good introduction to the world of insurance. However, I have a few questions. I am 16, and going to get my license really soon, and my situation is a bit different than others. I live in Madison, Wi by the way. However, my parents are divorced, and I live with my dad in a town some 35 miles from Madison, but I live with my mom in Madison. My dad bought me a car, a Ford Focus 2007 and I am going to use it to drive to school mostly. Consequently, most of the time I live with my mom, so I don't need to drive to much, but on the days when I am with my dad, I will have to take longer drives. I am able to apply for the good grade and driver's ed course discount, but insurance being insurance, and my parents money situation not being super flexible, what are other methods of discounting? Also, my mom has Progressive insurance, and my dad has Allstate. Would it be best to apply myself with either of those, or … find a different company (like Erie, which is supposedly one of the cheapest in the Midwest, but it is still pretty pricey at around $198 a month) and talk with their agent and try to communicate a good deal. Thank you for your time, and thank you for helping people like me, Victor.
@ThinkInsurance6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It is likely going to be a lot cheaper if you under one of your parents policy. I would check both but Progressive is likely going to be the cheaper option as long as your mom or dad don't have any claims/tickets. If they only have 1 car on their policy it will automatically apply the multi-car discount which will help as well and since they're older their risk is lower so that will pull some of the price/risk away from you. Check out my other video about top 15 discounts you might be missing, that might give you some other ideas of discounts you can get.
