Homestuck^2 is honestly a mixed bag. I like the new characters (even though one of them is just an alt vriska), and the concept of them making a new species is interesting. But it lacks a lot of what I liked about Homestuck and it’s characters and skews it in such a way that makes me wonder if the Homestuck^2 team ever understood the characters in Homestuck in the first place. Overall a rlly opinion on the sequel is a resounding “meh” which is pretty disappointing honestly. All I can do is hope things get better.

I despise the epilogue and Homestuck2, but the thing I hate the most is that it *tells* you what happens. Homestuck was fucking fantastic because it showed you what happened, whether through flashes or just the images and backgrounds. In Homestuck 2 they literally pause the fucking story to dump exposition onto you. If you’re going to make a sequel to one of the most famous, acclaimed comics, the least you can do is explore what makes it good.

What's going on in Meat Space sounds more like Homestuck (focusing on SBURB and using it to forward the plot) than Candyland (which is more like some kind of fanfiction with its own plot that's irrelevant to what Homestuck originally is))

Hey, thanks for the recap on this, I can now say with 100% certainty that Im not gonna read Homestuck^2 as I was already heavily leaning to pretending the epilogues didn't exist and heavily debating reading this and what I've seen here makes it feel like the characters have lost what I liked or loved about them (except Roxy, who continues to be Roxy). Maybe that's what they're going for, but it's just not something that sounds fun to read. I get we had jokes about Hussie drinking fans tears but this just feels wrong. Honestly, it makes me sad to say it but I'll still keep Homestuck in my heart, I honestly doubt I could forget it if I wanted to. Who knows, maybe in a few years I'll check look for another recap to see if maybe something changed.

Thanks for this, I was curious what this was about. I've followed MSPA since I found it around the end of Problem Sleuth (gotta be over a decade). I absolutely loved Homestuck and Hussie's writing, but as the comic hit the reboot it started to annoy me more than entertain. There was already this issue around the time they introduced the trolls, but relationships and the self-exploration (gender/sexuality-wise) that comes with them became so integral to the plot, and in an extremely hackeneyed way. The webcomic was originally about a deconstruction of the internet/pop culture, and it soon became a backseat to the former. I have no problem with a narrative evolving organically in a different direction, but this was not that at all. I suppose Homestuck is such a money-maker for Andrew Hussie he and his team might as well continue to dump out the 500+ spinoffs and merch. But I do hope one day he makes something in the vein of Problem Sleuth/Jailbreak again. It's just sad that I associate Homestuck more with Hot Topic/Teenybopper culture now than the irrevent humor and creativity of Hussie's previous works, which originally drew me to MSPA.
