An excellent translation of this book to film was directed by David Lean in 1984. One of the great masters of epic cinematic adventure, it was his last film. I would highly recommend the movie for cinephiles. With sensational on-location atmosphere, Lean's casting of the film is perfection, including Peggy Ashcroft who won the Oscar for her portrayal of 'Mrs Moore'.

The ending is rather sad, heartwarming, irony, bittersweet and enigmatic

'Amazing Stories' ("launched" 1926) was the first sci-fi magazine, as far as I know.

Super analysis. Not too academic but easy to navigate. Liked the movie, and all of this author's stuff, but I agree - this book is too convoluted to really enjoy.

I found this novel to be a difficult read like you stated in this review. I expected to enjoy it going in... but really didn't care for it.
