22:30 I'm running a Kingmaker game for my group and doing something similar to what Alan is talking about at this point. The published adventure stuff is pretty bare, but there's plenty of backstory information for the GM, so I've worked in bits and pieces from things that have yet to happen into the storyline, foreshadowing events that come up later, or giving some context to things that otherwise happen "off-screen" to the players.. I've also been able to work in my own storyline built around the PCs' backstories into the Kingmaker story. This talk of taking information that isn't normally player-facing and using it to flesh out the world is really promising!

I joined the kickstarter for Dragon's Demand and wish them luck. They mention about no RPG doing fly / water in 3d grid before and that is essentially correct. However it does look a lot like the very old XCom and XCom Terror from the deep games (once you have the armours that allowed you to do so) which I think it is actually a good approach

36:00 - City of Heroes has verticality because character can fly or super jump around the zones. Since the original started in 2003, it does still section the world into zones, but the travel powers are useable during gameplay. The original servers shut down in 2012, but there are fam-run servers like Homecoming & Rebirth. If you just want to check out flight, Homecoming unlocked the stuff that used to be behind a paywall, so any character can get a rocket board from the P2W vendor.

Having played both Dawnsbury days and Quest for the Golden Candelabra, I would totally recommend people to play both. Quest for the Golden Candelabra has non-professional voice acting which gives it a really cool and unique vibe that's disappeared in Dawnsbury days. It's hilarious and fun, and feels like a bit of a self-parody, while Dawnsbury feels like it's taking itself more seriously. Don't get me wrong, Dawnsbury is better, but I wouldn't want to have missed out on the unpolished experience first.
@dawnsbury2 ай бұрын
Good point. Now I regret making the recommendation I made in the video. Quest for the Golden Candelabra had two hobbyist/semi-pro voice actors (Anna and Tok'dar) and all the rest were voiced by my family and friends; whereas the cast of Dawnsbury Days is entirely hobbyist/semi-pro/pro voice actors. I would still recommend people play Dawnsbury Days because, as you say, it is the better game and even the voice acting certainly received more positive praise in Dawnsbury Days, but I can see how Quest for the Golden Candelabra could offer a certain additional charm.

I was an old-school first edition AD&D player. I have been enjoying the PF2E rules implementation in Dawnsbury Days. Given this and my enjoyment of the NWN modules produced by Ossian Studios, I backed Pathfinder: The Dragon's Demand. The more I hear of it, the more eager I am to play it right now! I had hoped we would already be reaching stretch goals. Thanks for the video and The Dragon's Demand/Dawnsbury Days coverage.

Thanks for this great interview Ronald. It was great to see both parties and their enthusiasm for their respective projects.
@MichaelGaskin2 ай бұрын
A core pillar should be the community's ability to add modules. A module is a homebrew adventure or a featured Pathfinder 2e Adventure. Imagine a store for add-on adventures where you could take a small cut of every sale.
@Pixie1001.2 ай бұрын
I feel like paid modding can be kinda controversial - even for big games like Skyrim it's generally understood that the quality just isn't really there for paid mods. And if they're free, but get a share of the base game's revenue, it's hard to figure out what that cut should be worth, and adds a weird adverse incentive to spam the steam workshop with poorly polished content? But Dawnsbury Days at least does have pretty powerful modding tools, and two small community created adventures paths. Although I think a lot of us modders are more drawn towards adding new character options, since adding our favourite classes, feats and ancestries is fun and balancing encounters can be a bit tedious.
@MichaelGaskin2 ай бұрын
I think it would work if there was a sound rating system and some QA (not like Steam). It would encourage people to develop for your framework, expand it, etc. I use Fantasy Grounds to play Pathfinder 2e, and they have people who convert those modules on their platform. Could you do the same? Of course, FG is much simpler than what is being proposed. To break out of the mold, consider interesting new pillars that will generate revenue and expand opportunities while benefiting the TRPG community. It's a win-win. Respectfully, this project doesn't stand out, and finding ways to stand out is crucial. This is just my opinion, an opinion that could be quite wrong.
@Pixie1001.2 ай бұрын
@@MichaelGaskin I mean, I guess I kinda see your point about it kinda working on Foundry. I think it can be a bit of a tradeoff - the more free modded content you have, the bigger your community, which in turn leads to more modders. I think if Skyrim had started with paid mods, I'm not sure if it wouldn't attracted the modding scene and culture it has today. But I guess allowing an optional price tag does also have the potential for higher quality stuff. And then obviously they could do something similar to what they did for NWN, and commision small studios to create semi-professional 3rd party DLC, to pump out content faster.
