Maynard has such a way with emotion in his vocals. I never know how to feel with the lyric, "I choose to live," I sort of cringe (in a good way) when it comes around. It's almost like a statement, question, and demand altogether in four simple words. This song emphasizes everything APC was about musically, not necessarily about a specific emotion, but simply the embodiment of emotion itself...Thanks APC!

This song just reminds me of how massive this universe is and that we need to submit ourselves to the higher power rather than to ignore it and claim things for ourselves as we slowly get eaten away by our own ignorance. My opinion about the meaning of the videoclip: 1. Witches wield magic (dark) powers and are in touch with the occult nature by unholy means. It is the drug addicted, who can't let go from its source of power and stamina. 2. The Scarecrow represents alienation and mind numbness (drugs) - from the character of The Magician of Oz, which doesn't have a brain. 3. The Witch falls in love with the Scarecrow, though it's a pointless love since Scarecrows are innanimate and cannot love (unreal feelings). That passion represents the addiction and the relief of the abstinence. 4. Gnomes, fairies, blind mouses, etc. are allucinations, the insanity and distortion of mind. 5. The Duck seems like to represent friends and family (it carries him in the back) and it is the only one who's trying to save the Witch from her insanity, but it is ignored and get exhausted. 6. The Night represents the current emotional state (depression). 7. At the end, the Witch tries to enter in the Fairy Tale Book, which represents absolute surrendering and desperation, she wants to quit the "real world", possibly by just surrendering to the addiction or commiting suicide. The Duck just want to let her go and put an end to the affliction. But it can't. The misery of a friend or family member can never just be forgotten and it affects their lives too deeply. (I got depression, panic syndrom and OCD, I sorta know how it feels like. I'm fine nowadays, though I'm dependent to pills and pills for the rest of my life.)

I have tried it many years ago but it is a little difficult to synchronise. The movie goes for longer than the album so you have to repeat it and I was told that you should start playing at the second roar of the lion at the very start of the film. (It's a lion advertising the company, it is used in a lot of old films). It does work well in some scenes though, particularly Money and Brain Damage. I have only tried it once so a more concerted effort may bring better results.

My take on it is that of bad habits: "I fell again, like a baby, unable to stand again on my own." ...Yet desiring release: "Catch me, heal me, lift me back unto the sun. Help me survive... I choose to live." By the line "Calm these hands before they snare another pill..." it points me more towards the drug idea. The cartoon seems to be about a scandal between two different fairy tale characters. Maybe I need to step back to see that the cartoon seems like a psychedelic experience itself.
