48 now, and have always enjoyed the talent and powerful music from Maynard. I can relate to this song as I have been clean from MDMA, mescaline and other hallucinogens for 13 years now, and I am truly thankful for being sober now. There is much more clarity and much less chaos and paranoia. Life is much more manageable now. I wonder sometimes, did all those hallucinogenic drugs actually help me with my compulsive disorders and anger towards my father and people similar to him.? Lessons and Blessings. I am thankful and not angry towards my father anymore, instead, I am grateful and I love my dad, for all the good, all the bad, and all the ugly, because I know what I want and I am much more aware now. Be very cautious out there everyone, there are venomous snakes out in this world, in all their various forms, ready to destroy us. Be aware and GODSPEED to all.

@@cosmovedder1354 same way here I think where we have to stay strong and focus is the fact that we make mistakes whatever they are intentional or not and keep going 'down that road' cause in reality we wont start feeling good again until we go deep down there and resist our guilt, remorse , pain. This song describes that exact felling of regret and the incapability to make amends to does we hurt so badly. We have to hold to our inner conciseness and do what's right in the moment cause at the end that's what we got power with. ( for me Christianity it's been pointing me in the right direction) find hope in Jesus!

I hope you're doing well, Nellie, and everyone else here, as well. For what it's worth, I dealt with that shit for nearly seven years; a drop in the bucket, sure, but it was a hard group of years. As much as I hate to say it, what started me on my journey out of that life was being a dumbass and doing three stints in jail. After the last one (and a minor slip up), I decided it was time to do something. If you haven't heard of it yet, kratom can work wonders. It acts on the same receptors, is readily available, legal in the US (save for a few states). It's the only reason I haven't used in six years. It is very mild, barely noticeable, but quiets those horrible cravings and thoughts. It allowed me to _live_ again. Just something to think about. It's hard as hell to quit, but it is possible. I truly wish you all the happiness in the world. Don't give up yet, not without a fight.

At one point heroin had total control over me; sticking a needle in my arm was the first thought that came to me everyday. It was better than sex by a million times. Been clean for year and two months now. Keep the devil off your shoulder and stay strong. Withdrawal sucks, but you can get past it. The depression and sleeplessness was the worst! The last "over you" tells the whole story. As with Sober it is about the lies that you believe about yourself. But unlike Sober this song is also a message of hope. That last "over you" is a declaration of power. Now I see the lies. Now I start to see that I have control over my life. Now I see that I am not weak or powerless, because I am "over you" -- and all the lies I believed for way too long.

This is such a good description of how I felt under the grips of intense desire for the love of a girl I once knew. Thoughts of her to this day, still have crippling effects, short and fleeting as they may be. Brings me to wonder if forgiveness may have been the less tireless road to peace, since regret and anger have kept the demons lurking, making love seem a burden and punishment for me to bare.

Then you go bragging yourself about your accomplishes (someone feed the monkey while i dig in search of China), telling some most unbelievable stories about yourselfs, about your amazing trips, what have you done extraordinary in your life but that doesnt mean a sh*t to her so you have to confess to yourself that you're not good enough to that person even in you gave your best shots about impressing her

"weak and powerless over you" means I am powerless over anything other than myself, "you" is anything other than myself whether it be a drug, a person or a situation.. I have power over my choice then I have acceptance to deal with whatever happens. i choose how

To everyone, this song has its own meaning. Take me for example. I don't think of drugs when I listen to it. I think of a power struggle between wanting to live and wanting to die. The things I do now will eventually kill me but for the moment it seems to be the only source of clarity. The demon in my head says do it but the angel keeps me going. I don't care as long as the pain stops. That's what I think when I hear this song
