Three years after my divorce, my ex-wife murdered a man. It was a couple of years before this song came out. I visited her once. She looked well. But I knew then, that the surface was an illusion. She did 15 years for voluntary manslaughter. She was released in 2016 and lives alone. She once came to me attempting to bridge the gap of our past. I took her out for karaoke. I sang this song as if it were mine. I paid our tab and walked out the door. Leaving her with her charm. I've seen her a few times since and am happy to say that she got the message. Thanks Maynard.

@nataliehanna56394 жыл бұрын
@@the1andonlypop Actually, ya..but no. The song was written after a close "friend" to the band, or specific members passed due to losing their personal battle with addiction. The "point" being made, and more that well done, is how sometimes those that reform, or get "clean" tend to be self righteous and condecending. (sp?) This hit some nerves with Maynard.. hence making amends, and "recalling demons as if they are someone elses etrociousness" (sp?)... I can relate as my ex husband was an addict/alcoholic. He did choose to get "sober" after I finally was fed up..however hes def. a "dry drunk" in accordance with Alwanon, which is why this resonates with my soul.. he made ammends to every single person but me..and then hated me b/c I left him

you are right about the song judith being about his mother, however this song is not about his mother even in the slightest way. maynard has said it himself that this song is about people who beat an addiction and think that it somehow makes them superior or just a better version of themselves and think the past has no sway upon their future. if you knew of maynard's work and how he expresses himself you would know that a song about his mother wouldn't have such a sad feeling to it. and furthermore, this song sounds sad because he actually feels sad for the people this song pertains to, he pities their ignorance the same way i pity yours.

Remember who you once were and never forget. No-one will ever be fully recovered, so don't act like you are. I am 31 days clean and I am just as vulnerable to pick up as someone with 3 years clean. That line gets to me cuz week by week I sit around a table of recoving addicts who have there halo over there heads, with there 10+ years of sobriety. then we get someone new in and there is no acceptance for the new person. so then when that new person goes out a relapse and they die, I asked myself how did they go about making their amends? this kid came to us for help and very few made time to help. Why be a part of something that stands for nothing anymore. We all need to stand for something.

I relate to this song every time I read the lyrics. I was a horrible addict & would steal money from my aunt & she thought she was losing her mind. One day she confronted me & as all addicts I denied stealing it. The night before she died she told me “I was killing her w/ my behavior & addiction & when she dies everyone would know the reason why she died”. I’ve been sober ten years, I attend church every week, I believe in walking in the footsteps of Jesus but will I be truly saved when I die? I loved this woman & have so much regret to this day. This song always makes me think of my Auntie Jo. Sometimes people aren’t acknowledged for their miracles & this woman should be a saint. Because I’m a different person now.

I was there too bro. I'll tell you what you can do. There are other addicts just like us and there out there right now. They don't think anyone will ever come for them. They feel like no one will ever love them. But both you and I, and others like us, know this pain. And even though we can't resurrect the dead, maybe we can prevent others from dying. It's hard work because you have to show them infinite patience. But it will give your life purpose and meaning. I'm 42 years old and I've been sober for 11 years now. You and I share this pain in our hearts. That makes us brothers. And it makes you someone who knows perfectly what people like us need. Peace, love, and prosperity to you and your loved ones.

Same! I was an addict for 15 yrs. Did everything I could to get my next fix. My nanny (she raised me from birth) died right in front of me heart failure. Her 1 dying plea for me was to get clean because she knew once she was gone I'd literally spiral out of control worse than I already was. That was in 2013 and for about 4 months after she died I did spiral out big time. The guilt ate me up. But I've been clean since, I just wish she could've seen it.. so I completely understand!!

You wanna hear something awesome? The way that serene, hollow "peace of mind" riff ends the song with a barely-noticeable little slide down the neck that beautifully disappears into the panicked reality of the next track, "Blue"

One of my favorite songs of all time...after reading everyone's comments, some are confused...this song is about recovering and congratulating the person for being reborn. However, just because you went through hell to recover, doesn't mean you are stronger than anyone now!!! You have to return the favor that you did recover and able to continue living again, but now how are you going to spend your time helping others instead of wasting it on doing whatever you want and stepping right over everyone to get to where YOU just want to be!!!! I went through 10 years of recovery and worked my way to now be a SA and MH counselor, but I will never quit thanking everyone who helped me get to where I am and now I am going to help others get through recovery as well since I understand what others are going through....however, it doesn't matter how much you pay me, because I am doing it for THEM, not me!!!! 12 steps of recovery, 13th step is to help others and not kick others aside to do anything I want!!!

To me this song speaks a lot on religion. They get rid of the demons then never bother or arent even considering making things right. They think because they are "saved" they get to just keep living like nothing happen... like its someone elses mistakes.

This is what the modern day church will teach so that the people continue to mindlessly sin feeling justified in their own beliefs and pride. However, the Word tells us narrow is the path and few will find the Way. Show me faith without action. It is unfortunate that the corruption of the church and knowledge has and continue to lead those, much like Maynard, away from righteousness. Mindlessly consuming away what is good, a system predicated on stripping away the relationship of Creator and that which He created ultimately leading the world into turmoil, a place we all exist today, Babylon. Marley understood this. Ironically, it is the system of appealing to fleshly wants and desires that creates the inherent addiction so many struggle with; fighting our own inhibitions we turn to materialism thus perpetuating the sinful nature of man, spreading it through imperialism until there is one world, one means of exchange, and ultimately one religion; a religion in which man has deified himself above all.

The line "Recall the deeds as if they're all someone else's atrocious stories, now you stand reformed before us all--- so glad to see you well." I know the type and they're so hard to listen to. Like you made it out, great. But stealing from the people who loved you, getting people hooked just so you didn't have to get high alone, destroying people's lives... All of that stuff you did wasn't done by some other person. You still committed those terrible acts, pretending you never did just because you got sober? It doesn't work like that.
@kimuralove10963 жыл бұрын
That line is the one that gives me chills every time. Maynard is beautiful.

All of your comments are correct for the most part. The underlying condition of the subject of the track could be any number of issues that many of us have been victim to, or even more sadly...the perpetrators thereof. Long live orchestral metal.
