The Star of India was never a pirate ship, but a transport of lumber and other items. In fact, it's the world's oldest active sailing ship. Every so often, they run the sails up and take her out.

Yep, The Star of India was built in the UK and spent decades being a merchant chip. It was one of the last sail powered commercial ships still working on the west coast. That is why the city bought it for the Maritime Museum.

Such a great video! I have lived in San Diego (Atlanta transplant) for 32 years, and never tire of its beauty and interesting places! My favorite restaurant in San Diego is the Bali Hai. So great! We have both the Mr. Bal Hai and Goof on the Roof mugs. Never knew that Trader Mort's sold all of that memorabilia! Will stop there and get some tiki mugs soon, as we are going to Humphrey's for the 4th. (We go to Humphrey's every year for the fourth of July.) Will have to go to the False Idol too. A girlfriend of mine and I have been planning that for a while now. Glad you got to have a great San Diego experience!

Last night you were about six blocks from my house! Thank you for the knowledge of False Idol. The Bali Hai is a beautiful resturaunt that my Dad took my Mom and I to many times. And today is Father's Day so, "I love you Dad!". Don't think me pretend sacrilegious, when I say, they must have taught Disney how to under-light! You brought back so many memories for me. I lived there until I was 12 and my dad got transferred to El Toro. San Diego was close enough that we went back often over the years...the Del Mar Fair, Old Town (the Whaley House), camping as a Girl Scout at Mission Bay, Over-the-Line at Fiesta Island, the SD Zoo, Sea World (my neighbor used to be a pearl diver back when they used to do that - she was on billboards all over the area), would meet my dad at Bali Hai for dinner as adults...and on and on and on. Special place in my heart.❤

My friend and I wandered into the Bali Hai on Shelter Island years ago. We borrowed bikes from a neighboring hotel we were staying at. It is wonderful! I loved the throw back interiors. SD is an awesome city. I got married in La Jolla, which is also just stunning.

Shelter Island/Pt Loma is where we stay in SD. It’s the the total SD vibe you think of with the marinas, sailboats. Bali Hai is a classic. It’s away from all the bustling touristy SD spots. Much more chill. Humphrey’s is great too!! Oh those Bali Hai Mai Tai’s. Goodness.

Yeah if you looked in the stern you'll see square hole sway above waterline. Was for inserting lumber. I've been to the Berkely ferry and the small steam powered yacht next to that. The Star Of India was called the Eutuerpe at one time. Had a different color scheme and rigging. One of the masts for the Star was torn off rounding the cape of good hope of South America. Before the Panama canal was built. I've been to Bali High. I think one of my uncles relatives had the wedding and reception there. Good atmosphere!!
