When the tree is dormant, it is like in a deep sleep. Just like a person being operated on. You can do your trimming and the tree will wake up not even missing what was trimmed. Winter trimming is good. Great theory on what and how you want to shape your Serissa. This tree is a masterpiece.

I love this tree and the Acacia style. The new styling is going to look great I think. Pierneef capture some lovely trees in his paintings, if yours turn out as you intend they will be show stoppers.

First your Ficus now your Serissa. MAJOR structural changes happening in the “Zone” this winter. I love it! As Peter Chan would say, “you must be bold”. Big changes for big results. Clip and grow is the way to go. Thanks, keep growing

I think you need to let your branches develope a little more length to them. So they'll separate the canopy foliage from the trunk more and show more of the branch structure.

Perhaps an idea to remove lower leaves on the branches, to reduce the foliage. The big acacias look like they only have green on the very tip of the branches. Its a very nice tree Nigel!

I think you've nailed that style already and it will only get better now. You can see the patience and hard work with every twist of the trunk and branches.

Hi Nigel, I know it's not your usual style and way of doing things, but I think using some guy wires to pull down the bottom branches a little will open up the canopy without having to sacrifice a lot of the existing branches and ramification. And if would give you the curvature to the bottom of the canopy you are striving for. Maybe something to consider.

Thanks for the tips on serrisa near the end of the video! I always look up to your tree when I’m carrying for mine and hoping match it’s grandeur. This is my second winter and trying to keep mine well has been a real trial by fire. A bad repot last spring put it behind and even though it was able to push out new leaves, it wasn’t able to grow new branches. Hoping it’ll make it through another year and I’ll keep tuning in to see all your trees progress!

i like what you are doing with your beautiful serissa. What struck me about your photos of the acacia trees were the exposed branching underneath the canopy. It suggests that the growth is close to the tip rather from the base of the branch. This feature reminds me of the paintings of old Japanese black pines in Japanese castles and palaces. A definite sign of age. Some of Piernief's paintings of South African acacia certainly have a Canadian Group of Seven look. Or is it the other way around? Who came first? Does it matter? Great paintings.
@MaybeBonsai3 жыл бұрын
The serissa looks great, the profile view of the tree had less of the curve you wanted, but the view from slightly higher seems much closer to the trees in the photos. Looks good either way, just keeping it alive for this long is a feat on its own haha
