The hazard of a “growing” hobby is always running outta space! 🥁🥁 🛎️ Lovin the discipline, one to two, skip one, sacrifice pair, snip.

I always love the first snow - it's bittersweet to know that Winter has finally arrived, but that also means that Spring is that much closer!! Thanks for sharing - so beautiful everything blanketed in white.

Great decisions one the 'Arakawa' Nigel, as well as the Field maple. When you repot the Field maple next, weather it be this spring or next, maybe consider saving the root clippings, I heard field maples grow from root cuttings that would be wild. One could make a forest easily that way.

Like the old Christmas song: Let it snow, let it snow. Trees well protected under the snow. Good insulation.

You could do air layer on Arakawa on that tick branch and put that rooted air layer together with that two and make nice clump style .

I don’t think we’ll ever see Nigel doing an air layer though

Isn't now a strange time to cut deciduous trees? Why not wait till end of winter?

Hi Nigel, this thing of keeping an extra set of bud and letting first grow a sacrificial bud sets in spring, do you do this on all species or specifically on maples? Thanks!

Hi Nigel, what soil composition do you use in your developing bonsai pots? Cheers

45% safty sorb (premium calcined clay all-purpose absorbents designed for the quick clean up of water, oil and grease and made from Montmorillonite Clay, a naturally occurring mineral with superior absorptive ability.) 45% perlite 10 % fine bark (repti bark) Good luck 👍🏻🍀
