Peter! Another great video that not only gives us a physical tutorial in constructing a pillar pods but a great explanation and car audio engineering and purposes of drivers. I feel like our discussion I actually laid into some of the explanations of why use a tweeter if you're using a wideband that can cover the same frequencies, on paper and likely, on a RTA. I loved your response when we were discussing it.... "Why not use a tweeter and its resources and then you would never have to ask the question... What if...?" You also explained inhale a tweeter is a tool that is specifically made to do a specific task. Sure a White Band will cover the area if asked to (more like told to LOL) but a tweeter is specifically made and designed to do a specific task efficiently. Example... A sledgehammer can put a finishing nail into a piece of nice birch but wouldn't they small ball peen hammer be more efficient? Lol! And once again it's all about how how are yours and how the judges ears hear our vehicles. I would hate a judge to possibly doubt hear something that was/wasn't there simply because I didn't want to put a tweeter in and then could have possibly influenced their brain even though it may be the placebo effect. I know I ask a lot of questions and it sounds like I'm either doubting you or arguing with you but I ultimately just trying to get a reason and not just a simple answer as I like to know how things work. I know I say this a lot when it comes to you and your videos, but thank you and I appreciate the way you explain your topic and handle situations. Your patience is to be commended as well! Thank you Super Sound Man! (AKA the mild-mannered daily car audio installer Peter Steinbacher!)

Is there a point in space you aim the drivers to? For instance are the drivers on the A-Pillar pointing to the centre line in-between the the driver and passengers head at ear level. Is there a point you always aim to? Cheers love the channel btw.

@@pssound9749 Ok Cheers, Is the 20 degrees for the driver alone or in between the driver and passenger? I guess you could pick one or the other or even better have the tweeter in rotatable pods?? maybe

Hey Peter, question about these and your other more recent build, How did these ever get trimmed in the end? did you trim them yourself or was it something else like flocking material or just sprayed? I finally got some time to tackle my own mid builds for the audible physics drivers I got and they're now ready for trimming/painting etc but they are very awkward just like these builds in your video (just without the tweeter). I've got some cheap OEM style stretchy fabric on the way for them but I know alcantara would be a no go unless it was stitched panels, so I was considering flocking them like a rally dash or maybe just try stretchy vinyl.... how have you tackled these difficult builds? I'd like your feedback/comments on the build if I could send a picture or two on the FB page or public group.
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 3 жыл бұрын
These ones in this video were actually sent to a trimmer and it required stitched seams, but usually i do it and try to hide the seams without stitching. The latest big challenge was the BMW 6GT, which i trimmed with Alcantara...yepp, proper challenge! Some people do flicking, which is smooth & inexpensive, but doesn’t necessarily fit every interior. Painting is another option, but that requires extensive preparation.
@joeshaft
@joeshaft 3 жыл бұрын
@@pssound9749 I don't even have that option really unless you have someone in the UK who can do it? I think I'll be going with this stretch OEM style fabric first and see how it goes and then flocking. I used alcantara on previous pillar builds but they weren't anyhwere near as big as they were just for tweeters in the past. I also did a spray paint finish in a mk3 golf from 1996 but it was pretty flat panels so not too tough. I have the current builds sanded up to 320 already and they've had three courses of filler to get every last pin hole and dent so they are pretty good now. The car is black and the whole interior is black/black leather so I think black flock or black spray would be match okay. I used all 18mm plywood and just stood beside a belt sander getting all the foundation in for them so they should definitely have the mass and strength needed for those lows. I'll maybe get a couple of pictures up on the fb page there. I'm at the point where I'm trying to find a good sewing machine and start learning to do it myself!

Hi Peter, How much airspace do we need to go sealed for RG100? I m confused between going sealed or IB. Thanks for such videos.

It’s more difficult to make sealed pods. We did that in a Skoda Octavia, it’s one of the most viewed videos on the channel. Those were like 0.9-1L iirc and was adequate for them.

@@pssound9749 hi Peter, thanks for the help. I have made a custome sealed pillar enclosure with 840 ml of space. How low you were in your sealed enclosure? I wana go to 150 at 12 db. Also is morel elate MM3 a good competitor for RG100? Thanks for the help.
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 Жыл бұрын
@@SachinGupta-mb3pz i have no experience with the Morel. 150 12dB is probably too low for any 4” in any type of install, especially if you wanted to use 12dB slope which is way too little protection for a midrange, plus on the top of that it doesn’t give u the best alignment with midbass. I’d suggest LR24. Check the TUNING playlist and you should pick up few hints from those videos. ✌🏼🔊🔊

It's amazing I have asked at least on five of these A pillar build Videos and yet not one person has ever responded. Let's see if anyone responds on this one. What happens when the side curtain airbag goes off? Are you just unplugging the airbag? Thanks
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 5 жыл бұрын
John, my channel is quite different! Everyone gets answers here! 😃 Most a-pillars with airbag are the same. The tie/fixing point of the curtain is around half way up the pillar. The trim panel is locked in at the bottom, so that will never move/pop out in explosion. The top of the trim has a clip, which releases and the pillar moves out an inch or so where the curtain can slide out DOWNWARDS! Most people think that the pillar would fly across the dash, which is never the case!

Do you care about sealing the pillars? I'm thinking about mids in A pillars but they won't be sealed, there is a 1-2mm gap between the pillar and the windscreen. You always say to keep the back of the mid open. I'm not sure if such open-baffle will work okay with the mid? :(

If you have no gap between the trim and the glass (you can easily seal it), then leaving it open works absolutely fine.

What crossover point would you use for a tweeter that has a frequency response down to 1kHz? I'm using 3k with a 12 dB slope, using 3x the resonant frequency method.
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 6 жыл бұрын
Gabriel R that’s a safe, general lowest crossover point, but what the best point for the tweeter is depends on the acoustical response of the install in the given car. If you have 3 way front-end i’d run the mids/widebands as wide as possible, so you get more point-source result. Tweeters should only compliment what the widebands (if) can’t do.

Gabriel R tights is not supportive enough to apply fiberfiller on it or lay chopped FG mat on it. Soak it with resin first, let it set, then you can apply anything!

how are the audible physics made in Indonesia and cost $700/pair, when Dayton Audio ND91-4 3.5" drivers perform better and cost $60/pair? They start beaming around 2.5kHz, and they lose control above 7kHz. I don't see how they wouldn't be sibilant without a cap or DSP. That is why it sounds better when paired with a 25mm tweeter crossed fairly low.

As per price i can not comment, i’m not responsible for pricing in US, especially as i’m in the UK. As per your result: not sure how you came to those measurements. RG100 has been one of the best 4” widebands around, that’s for sure. If you are happy with the Dayton, then you have nothing to worry about anyway. 👌🔊🔊
