Thank you for watching Andreas, with St. Patrick's day on the horizon, I was moved to pull a pint or 2. It paired very well with the Peterson "Old Dublin" tobacco. Hardcastle was a venerable Yorkshire made pipe that was purchased by Dunhill, in the late 30's, I believe. They along with "Parkers" were considered Dunhill seconds. Unfortunately they are no longer going to be made. My Smoking Shop in the UK had a nice selection but they've dwindled to only a few left in stock. When they're gone, they're gone. Serene smokes

Hey Gary! You all need to stop tempting me with these Hardcastle pipes! There’s one I have my eyes on, maybe I’ll pull the trigger before too long. Great idea either way the pipe rack, you must have been in engineering! I’ve held off on making one because I too don’t have the tools to do a proper routed spot for the bowl, well that and my wife wouldn’t share my same interest in decorations for the house… Cheers! Alex

They are very good pipes at a reasonable price. The Pot weighs in at only 40g and the Zulu at 36g. Surprising light for their size and shape. After 50 years in quality, tooling, engineering and manufacturing, I've learned a thing or 2. Working with wood is quite different than machining tool steel. I don't have the machining capability at home and quite frankly I don't really care for the stands I have that feature a routered pocket; they allow the pipes to tilt and shift about, so I improvised with the suction cups. My wife lets me decorate the subterranean lounge 😉

Yeah, thanks to my recent PAD attack, I needed the additional spots for my pipes to live in, but I was challenged by the lack of horizontal space to expand. The double decker rack made sense. Hi Doug, I recommend a visit to the Guinness brewery. I found it to be like Disneyland for beer. Once you make your way up the 7 floors to the bar for your free pint; you'll have a very good understanding of the process, ingredients and history of the brewery. Each floor is a self contained step of the process, from the water used to the making of the barrels to the barley and yeast etc. It's absolutely mad on the weekends, so a weekday visit is recommended. The bar gives you a great view of Dublin and the hills that provide the water for the brewery.

Heya Gary! I don’t even know what a beer engine is but I’m envious 😂 I was taught how to pour a proper Guinness on the Emerald Isle. I recommend trying Murphys and Beamish (hard to find). Your Hardcastle Zulu is a twin to one of mine! Bravo! I hope it seasons into a wonderful pipe for you. What a gorgeous cob 🤩 Nice idea on the rack.
@oldandintheway19553 ай бұрын
I first tried a Beamish and Murphy's when my wife and I stayed in Cork. I love them both. I see (and buy) Beamish here in Chicagoland on rare occasions, while Murphy's is much easier to find. For me, Murphy's is slightly richer in flavor than Guinness and Beamish is slightly "drier" in flavor than Guinness. I overlooked the Zulu style for most of my piping history, what was I thinking? They are such an interesting and handsome shape. That Hardcastle is already rounding into a champion smoking machine! Mike did a really nice job on the cob and was so kind to send it my way. PAD is real and raging here at the moment; I needed more rack space. I like to see all of my pipes when I fancy a bowl. It doesn't always make it easier to choose but at least none are overlooked and neglected for too long. Thanks for stopping by Sam, always nice to hear from you.

I'm staying put and enjoying a pull or 2 in the subterranean lounge along with a tasty tobacco. Mike is a nice fella indeed, very talented with a great imagination. Sometimes improvising yields good results, as it happens, I don't really care for my pipe stands with the routed wells, the pipes tend to tilt and swivel. Nellie says hey! I hope you guys have a splendid weekend!

Good evening Gary, good to see you again. Very nice Hardcastle pipe and a pint of Guinness sets the mood just right for the upcoming St Patrick's Day weekend. So much rich Irish traditions to enjoy and remember year after year. It must have been wonderful to be able to travel there and experience the culture in real time. Have a Great St. Patrick's day and weekend, Take care and God bless

Thank you for stopping by and the kind words, much appreciated. I've been a home brewer since 1991, so traveling to London for a proper pint was exceedingly exciting and so very delicious too. Ireland is also a wonderful island nation; they people there are so friendly and openhearted. I absolutely need to get back there for a Dublin Guinness! Happy St. Patrick's day to you. ☘️🍻

Hey Gary!! Man I’m so jealous of your hand pull. :0) thanks so much Gary! I’m so happy you like them. That’s so creative of an idea for the pipe stand. Great video and thank you again so much Mike

Thank you for sending that lovely bespoke pipe and pub characters to me. They fit in perfectly in the subterranean lounge. My buddy and I each bought a beer engine for 20£ at an open air market from a rather seedy looking character. It was filthy, caked with crud; the walnut base had multiple ciggie burns on it. The fella claimed that the pub was being remodeled and all the old engines were headed for the bin. 🤔 It cleaned up well and has been the center of attention when I hold dart meets in the lounge. Hook it up to a keg and yer away!

Dear Gary, very good to see you! Wow, that Tetley´s tap is fantastic, I so enjoyed seeing you pouring yourself a nice stout. Good choice on that Hardcastle pipe, such elegance! Im sorry I have been out of comission lately, being home with two small children is incredibly hard work! But oh so lovely and rewarding. I enjoyed a bowl of 2012 GH Best Brown no2 watching this video, I will be back! Take care my friend, talk to you soon! Emil

Hej my dear friend! No need to be sorry for being out of commission!! You have 2 wonderful children to attend to. I'm so pleased that all is well and you are so happy and doing well. I'll tell you the full story about the beer engine when we have a chance to speak together. It was a very interesting saga of events. It is the center of attention when I host dart matches in the lounge, connect it to a keg of delicious beer and you are set. I adore GH Best Brown #2!! A heavenly bowl. I'm so glad to hear from you and hopefully we can book a video chat at some point to catch up.

Really nice pipe Gary. I like the Zulu shape. I usually have a Voodoo Ranger IPA with my after work pipe, but today I’m having some Wellers Special Reverve Bourbon on the rocks. Cheers brother 🎉

Thank you for watching and your kind words Gary, very much appreciated. I do really like the Zulu shape, I came to it later in my piping journey, somehow it evaded my attention. Those bevy's both sound good to me! I going to pair a Wild Turkey "Rare Breed" with my current read before bedtime. Serene smokes my friend.

@@oldandintheway1955 They both are stunning. Approximately, what do they weigh? I’m always looking for pipes between 30 35 gm/1.00-1.2 oz. If you see any, let me know. Thanks Gary.

The Regency Pot 112 weighs in at 40 g, and the Regency Zulu 146 weighs 36 g. I purchased them at My Smoking Shop in the UK. they were roughly $60.00 each, with an additional $23.00 for shipping. I should have bought them together. 😉 to save $ on shipping. They arrived within 7 days of placing the order.

I bought that one at an open air market in London in 1997 from a fellow for 20£ . It was filthy and the walnut base had a few ciggy burns in it. It functioned and cleaned up nicely. I recently went online to see what a new one would cost. I was shocked at the price. I did not check eBay. They are great fun. Thanks for stopping by.

@@oldandintheway1955 Well that was a excellent bargain!...I too just looked online ha ha, £200 for a new one from a company in Birmingham UK. Seems a lot, but I might have to treat myself. Maybe second hand is the way to go. Would be great in my smoking room 😁👌

An entirely separate comment for the rack. What a piece! Do you place your hot bowls on the suction cups?
@oldandintheway19552 ай бұрын
You can, they're made of silicone. I let the pipe rest for a couple of hours before I remove the stem and perform the final clean up.
@marcspade_pipes2 ай бұрын
My constant worry, is the finish on the briar when hot. I’ve had a couple blemishes over the years due to hot bowls and what I reckon is substandard finishing. However, it’s made me a bit more cautious. I’d hate an unsightly circle at the bottom of a smooth briar… however, this rack is most interesting to me.

Great pipe! Where is the best place to pick one of those up?
@oldandintheway19553 ай бұрын
There is a limited number of new Hardcastle pipes left at My Smoking Shop (UK). I was told that when they're gone, they're gone. They are an excellent value and champion smokers. Shipping to the US is roughly $23.00. I'd hurry if you're interested, the stock is dwindling. Good Luck and thanks for dropping by.
