The tech that reduces lag on ptooie is called spallow and you do it by launching ptooie on the same frame as landing and swallowing ptooie

​​@@johnmarkson1990Not always. For instance, Marss's Lost Tech City 2022 win wasn't as impressive as his Genesis 7 win despite being a couple years after. Brood also got several really solid wins along his way to a better placement. Don't get me wrong, Tas did great, but the only really well known players he took out along the way were Asimo and Lax whereas Brood at Umebura SP4 had wins on Gackt, Kameme, and Shuton, the only person he lost to being Abadango before Abadango's results started to fall off

Brood had that performance when people didn't know how to desl with this character properly, and once players began to adjust the results fell off. This performance shows that despite knowledge of the character and adjustments made over time, Piranha Plant can succeed at top level. The best example I can think of would be if a Bowser got 13th at a supermajor in Melee in 2024. This would almost certainly be considered a better result than WarriorKnight's 9th place in 2006.

Brood's 2nd at Umebura was a supermajor, not just a major, with a 2nd instead of a 7th, and multiple wins on the top 20 compared to Tas only getting one top 20 win, only getting 7th (even if it's still impressive), and it just being a major, not a supermajor. Yes, a Bowser getting 13th now compared to 9th in 2006 in Melee would be more impressive most of the time, but that's a difference of one placement and 18 years, not a difference of 4 placements, a higher tiered tournament, and better wins

Most of the characters just a little heavier than Plant are fast fallers. Dedede, Bowser, and Incineroar especially. Kazuya and K.Rool are also in that upper-third of fall speeds, and so is Falcon, Belmont, Ridley, Banjo, and Snake who are a bit lighter.

Plant and DDD are tied with Little Mac for second fastest regular fall speed. Plant sometimes gets mistaken for a slower fall because his fast fall has a smaller increase in speed than more of the cast. BUT Plant has three air stalls with special hazards and tall jumps. Combine that with his vertical disjoints and it's clear most of his mix-up potential is vertical. He is hard to jump in on and Ryu must jump in. It's good to see another Plant pop off. GANK GANK!

That patooie tech is called spallow. You can also shoot patooie beneath you from a plat, with drop-shot. But I can't do drop-shot. I never took spallow out of the training room but now I will. I basically forgot about it.

Lots of players in both games getting more practice in online. Especially in Melee where it was hard for mid tier mains to get games in with high skill players. Ultimate could be a bit different, it's just a lot more balanced, lot less difference between a top tier and a low tier than in other Smash games. There's also an inherent advantage in playing a character that isn't seen all that much, a top player in Melee might have faced hundreds of Fox mains but a single digit number of DKs for example. They don't know all of the options and playstyles that that character has.
