It's when plants (often those considered "rare" or endangered) are removed without permission from their natural habitat and illegally sold on, often to people overseas. It's such a terrible issue and means that so many gorgeous plants no longer exist in their natural environment, hence why it's super important to buy from reputable sellers, always be wary of people who approach you, and why it's always fine to ask sellers questions and provide paperwork about the origins of the plant 💚

I'm proud to say that compared to 2021, the majority if not all of my plants this year were from Etsy, small independent plant shops and sellers or Ebay along with plant trades. The only two that I got from a bigger garden centre were on clearance and needed major rehab but are doing much better now. I've noticed I'm a lot more conscious of the plant choices I make and don't just go for a plant because I want it there and then, I'm more aware of how that plant needs to fit into my space and I'm okay with that. Also, congrats on the move and the new house!

I'm currently OBSESSED with my queen Anthurium too! I bought her for $40usd a month or two ago as a bottom cut with one tiny leaf, but I could tell from the thickness of the stem that it was a pretty mature plant before it was cut. Its third leaf just hardened off and it's a foot long 😭 I AM IN LOVE

Your BOP is flawless! I love it too. I am drawn to plants with really big leaves but many of my favorites have small leaves like philodendron brasil, peperomia incana and rhaphidophora tetrasperma. I'm not into "rare" plants, just what catches my eye.

I definitely go through phases with plants. I got my first houseplant when I was 7 years old, so it's been a few years. haha About 20 years ago, I had almost 300 African violets (plants, props, etc.), streptocarpus, and other gesneriads. As life got busier with two children, pets, etc., I lost interest and neglected them. For several years, I had mostly Thanksgiving cacti and phalaenopsis orchids. Then I started adding succulents, and for the last year I've been diversifying more. I try to stick to easier care plants and remind myself to not get too carried away. When the care needs become too overwhelming, it's not fun anymore and both the plants and I suffer for it. I also try to remind myself of exactly what you said: today's rare plants are tomorrow's common ones. So, someday I'll have hoya heuschkeliana variegata, but not today. :) Happy New Year, Claire! I enjoy watching your planty journey.

Oh exciting to see a bird of paradise! Mine has been with me for over a year now and it was the first plant I got after moving to Sweden. I recently put in under a stronger grow light and weirdly it pushed out a normal size leaf with a very short stem! It looks really crazy. Is it because it doesn't need to reach out for light anymore? Bizarrio! Loving your vids!

GOOD TASTE v VULGAR I like your KZbin channel, your goodself of course and all of your plants. Although I'm not keen on variegated Monstera at all.. particularly on M. deliciosa because the oftentimes instability and inconsistency and range of different shapes of the markings all together at once on the same plant. This ill at ease look of just too much differences going on all at once gives the plant a character of discombulation which detracts from the handsome boldness and interest of, what ought to be, solid deep green fenestrated leaves. However, I find myself rather liking your M. deliciosa with it's more subtle and tasteful variegations and happy that you appreciate it's beauty. Definitely a subject where less is more.

I have some nicer plants like Philo Domesticum variegated, Philo bipennifolium varigated, M. Adansonii Indo Marble…but I kind of think my favourite plants are Epipremnum Cebu blue, Pinnatum Albo, Micans, my Hoya Bella, obovata, Queen, and Royal Hawaiian purple, and some basic scindapsus (exotica, silver lady, silver cloud). It’s my basics, my true blues that have become my faves! Wish I could have saved myself the headaches and the money on the more rare plants I’ve had and lost 😂

If you find your white princess is struggling you really should cut the flowers. It’s using so much energy producing the flowers that regular growth is interrupted. One flower is hard enough on the plant, but that many really takes a toll.
