I am a Bird Photographer and I always carry a pair of pruning shears with me in case I need to get a branch out of the way of my viewfinder. They would be very useful for clipping neat, nicely shaped bits of wood - either cutting up a bit of wood from the ground or trimming a bit of dried wood from a bush or tree.

After using both bushbox and firebox, i personally felt firebox provides more control over various situations. Im selling my bushbox lx in mercari and keeping firebox. But i can see lots of pros for the simplicity of bushbox.

One alternative u could use is to bring a couple cups of hard wood pellets, and a squirt of alcohol to getter started. I cut up a stainless steel splatter screen to cover the holes to stop the pellets from falling thru. But also using an alcohol burner to boil some water for a brew, while ur grilling & cooking on ur wood stove, don't have to worry about burning ur water LoLz 😅 u will know how much meths it takes to boil, and just watch the grill 👍 Always good to have a backup fuel/fire source, when it's too wet or too cold and too difficult to get a fire going?

Stick stoves like this rock. I use Firebox nano and full size. Damp cold days are a little bit of a challenge though. I find using splits of larger pieces helps, if you can get stuff withna dry centre, but the flexibility you mentioned is why they're so good. If the wood is wet, use it as a pot stand/wind screen for you're alcohol stove.

Yes I struggled to get it going with the wood being damp, I definitely learnt my lesson! I like the pot stand idea, I’ll have to give that a go next time! Thanks for the comment 👍😁

@@alexcripps.outdoors I recommend carrying a few sticks of fat wood. Use your axe to make shavings and stand up your sticks and sprinkle the fatwood shaving through out it and in the center. Light that. It will get it blazing hot in no time.

A multi tool with pliers would be handy saves burning your fingers taking the attachment s on and off.

I bought a lixada titanium, basically the same as what you have in the video...also got an EVERNEW titanium to combine with it...they fit like hand n glove...beautiful combo!

oh and beware, first one I bought of these was a tomshoo, and they lied about it and said it was made from steel...it has zero magnetism, so it must be made from cheaper metals...I sent it back to amazon because of that!

Very nice review video. 👍 Hope to get my "Large Foldable" in a few days... I think (for solo tours) the LF is the perfect match between performance, costs and weight. I am sure the XL is also great but 800g (steel) for the big one isn`t quite practical in my opinion. Have fun with it.

Thank you very much!! Yes obviously a gas stove would be more efficient but I just find the Bushbox so much fun to use! Yes I totally agree the XL is slightly too big for taking on a trip and the smallest size seems to struggle a bit, the LF is definitely best for a solo tour. Hope you’ve enjoyed it! Hi Alex, another great video, thanks for sharing. I’ve often wondered about getting the pocket size version so the review was really useful and great presentation. I’ve got the standard one and it weighs a bit but is brilliant very atmospheric and when I’ve finished cooking on it it’s great to keep feeding it a few twigs just to watch the flames and warm the hands! @@alexcripps.outdoors Lixida makes a small pocket hinged stove kinda like this one. For about 8 dollars on wish dot com. It might be worth trying that one to give you an idea how well a tiny one works before buying the more expensive german made one.

Nice little stove there mate.. Ive got that too as one of my 4 wood burners. Always seem to go for my Titanium Lixada one tho it is very slightly larger but only 250g including the pouch. The bushcraft essentials stoves tho are fantastic as they're 'already built' and just gotta unfold it. Didnt know there was a grill for them I shall have to invest in that!! Nice one! @@alexcripps.outdoors Cool!! They do an aluminium one and a stainless steel one too but I have the titanium. The bushcraft essentials is obviously an easier set up etc but the Lixada is still well easy takes like 30 seconds to put together. Definitely gonna get a grill for my BE one now tho that was well cool and mate that catch was class haha. No worries as always bud have a good one 👍🏻

Cools down pretty quickly! I usually throw some water over it if I need to pack it away quickly. Still going strong after multiple uses! Really well made, very happy with it! 😊👍

yes, yet it's made from metals that will cast off toxic fumes, so there is that to remember, you want steel OR titanium...you can make one easy out of an IKEA stainless steel cutlery holder. There are vids on youtube about that very thing!

A Jetboil uses a gas canister - very efficient, but you have the cost of the canisters. The advantage of the wood stove is that all the fuel is free, if you can find dry stuff to feed it with! In the UK that can be difficult other than in Summer. So most folk go for gas canister systems. But these wood stoves would be a lifesaver if your gas has run out.

Just to add to other comments, the jetboil is really good for boiling water type meals but not so good for cooking as its really hot especially at the bottom, you tend to have the bottom of the pot burnt to a crisp and the top uncooked. I personally use a woodstove with a trangia to supplement on days I can't find wood, as it fits in the wood burner. I rarely use my jet-boil as I like to cook with real food.

@Chris66able what is the nonsense part, I have a jet-boil its only good for boiling packet food or pot noodle. There is a flame control but even low is crazy hot at the bottom. They boil water amazingly well, because that's what they were designed for but struggle with other styles of cooking.
