As I start this reply, you're at 999 subscribers. I hope it's at least 1,000 by the time I finish it. If Christians and Muslims behaved like polytheists, I don't think I'd have much problem with them. After giving this some thought for a couple of days, it's really the evangelism, the abuse of society through government to legislate dogma, and the denial of reality to fit their narrative that generates the biggest pushback from me. I can't think of a single polytheist who's ever tried to use a god as a reason why I can't do a thing, hold a position, pursue a line of inquiry, try to put an end point at the knowledge I'm permitted to obtain, or say that reality is wrong because it contradicts their Sincerely Held Belief (tm). You're a fantastic advocate for your beliefs, Ocean. You've earned my respect, and I look forward to more from you. Take it easy.

It's a question of power, not an aspect of the religion. Study some Greek and Roman history, polytheists used to do that sort of thing all the time. You see it from Christians and Muslims today because they have the power now. It's wrong in any religion or time period, but people are still the same.

Respect is something that is generally lacking among a lot of atheists (especially the more militant ones). One can disagree with religious philosophies, and highlight why certain aspects of religion and faith are flawed, but to call another's religion "ridiculous" to the point of disrespect, is atrocious. One should be intolerant towards the intolerant, but remain respectful to those who are, quite frankly, just minding their own f*cking business.
@gorillaguerillaDK3 жыл бұрын
The thing is, in a lot of places, religious people want special status, and want laws formed by their religious views - so it’s only natural that it creates a reaction in people who don’t want religion to dictate the laws of the land! And how can we respect those who just "mind their own f.cking business" when religious people still use their religious views as justification, implement laws restricting women’s bodily autonomy, demands special rights in regards to congregation in times where social distance is needed and religious exemptions in regards to vaccines, or use their religious views to block doctors from giving a child blood transfusions at the ER….? Also, a lot of the most "angry atheists" is in my experience former religious people who lashes out against the world they came from - lashes out against the lies they’ve been told Sunday after Sunday - and especially social media platforms is the perfect place for this venting. Also, the moment someone makes a public statement about a religion/their religious views on a social media platform, they’re no longer "minding their own f.cking business", they are literary putting their "business" out in the open where it can be opposed! Look, it’s not that I disagree completely, it’s definitely preferable when debate can happen in more respectful manners, but it’s also important to remember that it should be possible to tell someone that what they believe is downright stupid or ridiculous, without people taking personal offense - basically to distinguish between an attack on the individual and the beliefs of said individual! I do comprehend that it can be frustrating to meet demands about science based evidence that validates ones belief, if these beliefs are metaphysical! And I do understand that it can be extremely frustrating for someone who do have religious beliefs of some sort, to feel like being put in the same box as the worst of the worst of the religious nutcases. But, the reason why some will do it, is because all religious views is rooted in the supernatural, and thus, it’s an easy tool to use to steer people towards the very worst side of human behavior - and add to this, the psychological mechanisms that let one believe in things that can’t be proven is the same mechanisms that can lead people to buy into a world of conspiracy assumptions…. And sure, then there’s also people who are just a..holes! Like me! 😜

Being a writer and a history nerd, I personally find most of the pagan and pre-christian faiths fascinating and have read plenty of books on the topics. For a while I even dipped into studying Wicca, not because I believed in it, but because I thought it was kinda interesting and fun I agree we have a lot more in common than what most people might think. Fact is, many Abrahamic faiths are finally loosing their absolute grip on power, and marginalized believers and non believers alike are finally getting some breathing room. Hey Ocean, I just watched your video finally! I was so busy throughout the week and didn't realize you uploaded, so I'm kind of late to the party lol. First off, I want to say my sincere and heartfelt thanks for demonstrating your support and backbone for the Hindu community no matter how small of a gesture. When I heard in the video about that little incident at the Hindu temple you mentioned, it really riled up my feathers and I'll be brutally honest, I'm slightly surprised. Don't know if I should even be though. To have the audacity to not be mindful and show disrespect in front of a group of people performing genuine service for humanity by providing food to anybody regardless of who they are is beyond me. It's incredibly immature, ungrateful, and plain unprofessional. Them talking about how "ridiculous" the Hindu traditions just show a lack and shallow full understanding of the whole picture. You don't have to believe in the faith, completely fine, but don't be all talk about concepts you may not understand. Hinduism is incredibly diverse and pretty complicated and robust which could possibly I think take a lifetime to even grasp. Especially when dealing with language and semantics from foreign lands, because you'll be in a world of hurt if you try to pigeon hole modern English terms into the various philosophical schools of thought. Hell, I barely scratched the surface when I first took a class at university during my last year. Education and open-mindedness can go an incredibly long way when crossing cultural boundaries outside of our own so we can know where people are coming from to reach common ground. It's indeed an issue of minority religions such as the Dharmic paths and yes even Pagans alike for example, particularly here in the States, being up to heavy scrutiny and invalidation. It's surprising and it's not all romantic as some people make it out to be. Anyway, apologize for the long rant. You're a respectable dude Ocean and I appreciate that :) I first heard you through The Longship blog and I'm glad I did. Along watching a few shenanigans in Suris's channel lol. I consider myself in this weird bridge between Agnostic and Agnostic/theist (TBH I hate titles) after denouncing my Christian card in high school because I never felt that passionate connection for me. I've been exploring different spiritual traditions due to personal life events and being much more sympathetic towards religion but I try to remain critical, grounded, and practical in my approaches as of right now. Recently, I have a keen interest again back to Heathenry and polytheism in general and your channel helps! There is a lot to polytheism than I anticipated and there is so much more knowledge to learn. Whatever way of life we live by, we need to work together and do find positive mutual respect and it takes time. But also calling out bullshit on people who use religion to take advantage and pose great harm towards others. Congrats on the 1,000 subs man and we look forward to what you have for future videos!

I'm not a polytheist, and I think I've let the far-right within your movement give me a bias against you. I can say that I find Germanic & Celtic history very interesting despite this, and I can say that I respect the religious beliefs of these two peoples. I know of course that you're talking about polytheists in general but I can't speak of other polytheists because I only know the details of European polytheism.

I'm definitely someone distinct from the far-right elements of paganism. I've found that often those elements on the far right aren't even polytheist, but follow some metaphorical mess that doesn't include deity. Some of them are polytheist, but in my experience, most of them are actually atheist when you get right down to it.

Am a bit unhappy about any niceties being directed towards Rationality Rules, though. His recent videos on trans people in sports are loaded with lies, and when responding to a critic who corrected these falsehoods, he's made his own response videos deceptively editing his critic's video to undermine the points they were trying to make and just generally being an ass. There is no hope of the tiniest amount of grith with him, so to speak, unless he earnestly admits to and apologises for ALL of this bullshit.

Faithless Forum took place before his response videos. I was also very frustrated with how he responded to the criticism. However, I was also frustrated with how he was criticized. I wanted him to learn and change rather than just be ostracized. I actually spent a lot of time while I was with him talking to him about the subject and how to approach it. But he took very little of my advice in the end.

@@OceanKeltoi Hmmm... I mean, I'd like that too, all things considered, but given how determined he was to burn bridges when it came to the public drama with Essence of Thought, despite the latter offering every chance to prove them wrong in the first three or so videos... I really don't blame the community for just flat-out rejecting him until they see evidence of change, and at this point I'm not sure if he's going to actually take responsibility for this situation the way he needs to.

We agree completely. I think he intended to do good, but he very publicly stumbled through a complicated conversation and caused a lot of harm with dehumanizing language and argumentation. The problem is that he doesn’t really seem to recognize that. And I don’t think he’ll realize it anytime soon.

Is Ocean part of the Asatru community? I'm asking because I'm a fellow pagan and was curious. I'm also trying to find more people with beliefs similar to mine to connect with online.

I'm a Norse Polytheist, but I self identify as Heathen rather than Asatru. I think the word Asatru only covers the Aesir, and I follow the Vanir as well.

Ngl, I was reluctant to watch this video because I though it was going to be you going to an atheist forum website for the lulz and exposing a bunch of Vaush-esque Reddit neckbeards to us for our amusement, I can’t stand atheists like that. Was pleasantly surprised.

I fully agree, sadly I've just seen your great vid. I'm an atheist who wants to live in an apatheist society where no creed will be dictate and everyone is free to believe (yes even christian😉).

I identify as a Christian. However, I cannot understand the logic behind denigrating or condemning someone else’s beliefs. It just makes no sense. I’ve always viewed my relationship with my higher power as personal. I have no interest in imposing my faith on another individual. At the end of the day I *believe* in theism but, I also recognize that belief might be utterly untrue.

Wish more Christians were like you. Even Jesus didn't condemn people of other beliefs, he just wanted them to love and care for others.

By the way, do you accept the ethnic component to Polytheism - in which the faith is inherently linked to who your people is - or not?

So this is my testimony about getting back into the church after 10 years of being out of it. For awhile I was an atheist and then an agnostic, however, God delivered me out of a difficult and strange period of my life that left me without doubt of His existence and goodness. It's a bit of a long read, so bear with me. A couple weeks into February of 2018 I experienced some dreams of a strange nature during a time where I was isolated, depressed, and desperate. I've dealt with anxiety and depression for along time and I was at the end of my rope. I had considered seriously commiting suicide two years ago and when the depression hit this time I couldn't take it anymore. I was searching desperately for something that would allow me to leave the situation I was in. I was addicted to gaming and was very isolated. I also fell heavily into a series of books I was re-reading at the time that I had a great obsession with, The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. A few months into a reread of this series I had a dreams in February 2018 one of which I think was prophetic, having to do with seeing a woman and man in the dream that I later saw the next day while walking and while watching TV. This was a man and woman that I hadn't met or seen before. There were also aspects of the dreams (which I can't easily get into because it's difficult to explain due to the content) that led me to believe that The Dark Tower series having to do with parallel universes was real. I became convinced that there was a world parallel to ours, like the books, that I could gain access to if I used certain objects that I had in my possession . After weird events also began occuring in my home, with my television, and with me, I told my parents about all of it. They were adamant that what I was experiencing was demonic deception and that I should cease reading these books and give myself over to God. Being stubborn and delusional I decided to continue in what I thought was a great discovery and a way out of my situation. Events transpired over the next few days that left me in a state of confusion and despair. My father also ended up in the hospital that week. It wasn't until I began to cry out to Jesus that things began to change. I began to hear from God during this time. I felt like I should rid myself of the books as well as the stuff I had gathered connected to them. I eventually ended up getting rid of all the books and objects connected to them, as well as a lot of other stuff including my games. We were doing some work in my room at the time so luckily I had something to help keep my mind off what had been happening as well as grow in the word from listening to 107.9 on my radio. When we finally returned to church a couple weeks later the sermon and series was about the book of Daniel, some of which has to do with prophetic dreams and visions among other things. I know now that this wasn't a coincidence. Once I started getting involved in the church again and reading the Bible I found out that these things really aren't as uncommon or unbelievable as they seem. My mens bible study at the time had members that had experienced supernatural and amazing things as well. I know this isn't going to sound credible if you aren't a Christian. Back when I didn't believe, these stories didn't seem compelling or true to me. However I can tell you that if you reach out to God wholeheartedly he will reveal himself to you. I'd like to ask that if you're going through something right now, some kind of challenge or difficulty that you reach out to God and ask him to help you. Sometimes it may not seem like anything is happening, but if you're willing to hold on and push through you can see him move in your situation in miraculous ways. Here's more about the Gospel here: www.tvcresources.net/resource-library/articles/the-gospel-of-jesus-christ If any of you would like to receive or feel led to receive Jesus Christ as your saviour pray this and believe it with all your heart. ❤️ Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven. At this moment I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Father, I take you at your word. I thank you that I can face death now that you are my Savior. Thank you for the assurance that you will walk with me through the deep valley. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Good luck and may God bless you! And remember satan is a spirit of fear.
