A Porsche 928 and Mercedes-Benz 500E Feed a V8 Fetish

“I was a bit skeptical about the color in the beginning, but I kind of like it now. It stands out, definitely,” says Torfi Sigurjonsson of his Speed Yellow 928. With a small list of cars to collect, the brightly-colored Porsche was actually #2. “On the top of the list was the E500, which I bought 2006, and this is a US model. I bought it in New Jersey.” Torfi’s day job? Airline pilot.
“I was hooked on aeroplanes since I was a small kid. Nothing else was an option, other than being a pilot. I'm quite lucky really, to have a job,” he says. “It's a hard competition to get a job with the national carrier like Icelandair, but I made it there, I've been there for now 26 years.”
Torfi agrees that there’s a connection between fast aeroplanes and fast cars-least of which their aversion to the winter months. But he doesn’t own his vehicles for speeding, saying, “It’s a nice feeling just to drive around, not too fast. You know of all the power in there, and knowing that you have it is a good feeling. You don’t have to be going 200-plus [kph].”
With a busy working lifestyle and a dedicated hobby, no matter what, Torfi will always make room for the machines he loves. “I try to keep my life not too complicated, but I have this car fetish. V8 fetish. You only have one life, so I try to make the most out of it.”

Great video, i owned a 928 gts black manual 1994/95 model, i loved that car, drove it every day, regret selling it. My brother owns a 928s4 1990 black automatic, he leaves it in an air bubble in the garage and drives it once a year . Lol

..well, what can I say. Having owned one the legendary 928s4 was a child hood dream. Held it for 10yrs-then sold it a few years ago. They now command and incredible residual value - the GTS is around £58K. With its timeless and graceful design dating way back from late 70s still stacks high and to be honest, out weighs the Panamera! Hold onto the Shark for as long as you can - it’s a masterpiece and that V8 roar and the 50/50 weight ratio at 145mph is quite exhilarating. Great video - would like to see more of. My next V8 has to be the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. Another time-piece that I will hold onto this time, as that is another muscle car with the grace, panache and build quality that will see it comfortably into 2050.

If you're seriously interested in a 928 I want to warn you that finding parts for this vehicle is extremely hard and I have heard that some Porsche or German Specialty shops don't work on them because of the fact finding a part is extremely difficult. This is still a great car, Very unique coming from Porsche in the 80's

Very nice video. The Porsche 928 is the best "fast-driving" car I have ever driven. I drove one from Nidda to Weimar, Germany on the Autobahn, a distance of 240 km with an average speed of 162 km/hr for the distance. The seat, the steering, the gear shift (for a transaxle, smooth as butter), the clutch and brakes all felt perfect. It is a true driver's car. That car, too, was a rather peculiar colour, an eggplant purple, not unattractive, but unusual.

Very nicely done video!!! I own the latest model of the 928 series, a 1992 GTS. Not flying anymore (avatar), but a reliable V8 in the garage is a good substitute! The 928 is pure understatement, no need to go 200 plus, but it is a very good feeling that you could in a heartbeat. The built quality and handling are superb. These cars just don't age, my GTS still feels as solid as 13 years ago when I bought it.

There was only "ONE" speed yellow 928 made by the factory. That car was issued to the Porsche AG master chief and he drove that thing forever before Porsche finally sold it used. Back then it was the highest km executive driven Porsche to date at over 117,000kms + Last I ever saw it was in 2004 @ Stuttgart.

the 928 and 944 created shockwaves in car design trends in the early 90's that are still used today. But the rear of a GTS is definitely imitating the 928

The AMG GT is the closest modern car to a 928 that I've seen. Similar proportions, long hood, somewhat bubbly rear-end, just spectacular. It also seems like a 928 in spirit. It's a grand-tourer that is VERY fast for its time (928 in 1986 was the fastest non-turbo car in the world).
