This is Julian's story.
I began to work with Julian when he was only 3 yrs. old . For the next 8 years I would see
one of the most amazing turn arounds and greatest outcome of my career. He went from being non-verbal to verbal. He learned to do math, read and write and create movies. Most importantly we did community inclusion. We went everywhere. I remember the first time I took him to a movie theater, he would cover his ears and I had to sit in the back and I had to take him out here and there. I did not give up. With time and practice it was possible with no behaviors. Julian now independently request's to go see a movies and stays to the very end. Understanding the social cues in the movies and has a great time. I also taught him to order his snacks before the movie. He can independently do so. We have done water sports such as sailing and kayaking with other typical peers. Including him to the mall experience had it's challenges in the beginning but with the implementations put into practice, he is now able to walk calmly and explore different stores. ABA Tactics were also implemented to work on improving social, independent and cognitive skills tied in with life skills. Targeting both behavior and learning with fully inclusion into the community made for a GREAT SUCCESS!
Thank you Freddy Barcena and Angie Rasch for allowing me to grow and teach Julian in what I believe in and what works. He is a blessing. I am forever grateful. He is an inspiration and a true testimony for Autism Dream City.
