KZbin is a platform with 2 billion registered users all over the world with very differing view points. It's no surprise it brings out the worst in some people. It's easy for things to get very out of hand when people have the security of hiding behind a keyboard.
Its fine to have an opposing opinion, but comments from Gonks Pedants and Trolls are removed prior to them being published (no one will see them), and the account is immediately blocked and banned. I am under no obligation to tolerate abuse,

It's one way to go but I use my old spun aluminium wok and lid. It used to have two plastic coated metal handles but I removed those for ease of packing. (It usually travels on my packs exterior, but on long trips it goes inside with food packed in it.) If I did go 'one pot' that's the one I'd take. Stir fry, stew, pasta bake, full English breakfast, dutch oven, endless culinary possibilities and it's also a wash bowl. The lid is also essential and multi-purpose. (Food prep', food tray, fire fanning etc). I removed the top knob so it can nest in the wok in transit. A metal spork tine or a metal chopstick will go in the lid hole to lift it off and an old trangia grip handle for the wok. However, I'll normally also take a 1 litre aluminium mug for boiling water and drinking a brew. My stove, lighter and utensils travel inside it. My wok is probably now over 30 years old. (possibly an original Ken Hom stir fry for beginners 🤔?) I've hiked, camped, hosteled and cooked all over Europe with it. I 💓 my wok!

I'd seen a few people cooking in those jetboil skillets, but assumed it was only for gas. Great idea to use alcohol burner, especially as a low profile one fits inside. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good idea ! ,been getting into bikepacking and the cook size is a conundrum esp if one buys food from petrol station :) , usually i take a titanium pot mug that i can just about fit in an army ration bag but its bit of a flaff. I think il get myself a nice folding non stick pan for home use as well as outdoor use 👍🙂 ps I clicked on your link and your amazon website did not appear

The (Jetboil flash) was designed for ration pack boil in the bag. However you could go old school if money is a concern, and fit you ration pack in the old alloy mess tin, it boils water quickly too, and can fit your stove inside. Just DONT fry in it. Tinned food is okay too, but keep stirring.....bex Amazon mess tins link www.amazon.co.uk/Folding-Mess-Tins-Camping-Cookware/dp/B06W9LW98R/ref=asc_df_B06W9LW98R/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=332068324784&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6288944861518128249&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045254&hvtargid=pla-702707807452&psc=1

👍👍👍 Hmm .. interesting and perfectly doable. I have a 16cm Tatonka SS Bowl with handle that cooks up just about anything that I chose to rustle up. Fried eggs? Possible with care. Breakfast Oats (the traditional rolled oats way) .. perfect. Heat control, stirring regularly and Bob's your Uncle. Just this morning, my Oats were prepared and eaten out of said bowl. The Bowl is extremely lightweight and robust. The hollow welded-on grip makes it easy to handle and if too hot, a pot grip then does duty. I'm looking to possibly 'seasoning' the bowl in order to mitigate sticking during egg frying and such. Fit? The bowl, together with a little nested 400ml Aluminium Trangia Kettle knockoff, fits nicely into a Savotta 4L Side Pouch attached to my Savotta Jääkäri S Pack. Anyway, I have a little IKEA non-stick 'One Egg Pan' (sans handle .. it can actually handle more eggs if they're on good terms w each other 😉) that when required, fits in nicely between the Bowl and the Kettle. A good one .. thanks for sharing. Take care ..

Bex I'm sitting here watching you drink out of your skillet, and this occurred to me and have no idea if it would work or not, so I'll just lay it out there and see what you think. I've seen people use these silicone attachments that they put on their cups to keep from burning their lips. The diameters may interfere to the point this may not work but do you think this might be possible on the skillet? The other idea would be it could be stored on the end of the handle to prevent any scratching of the non-stick surface in case the present guard were to be damaged. Just my thoughts. I sure enjoy your videos and seem to always to pick up some tidbit I had not thought of. Have a Happy Safe and Healthy New Year.

A bigger surface area does boil water faster just use stainless steel mess tins and compare to steel canteen cup . I find mess tin are still the ideal cook pot

Maybe the Zebra Lunch Box would come a cool second, but stainless steel doesn't do so well for frying, my skillet is Ceramic Coated non stick.... Although I use my Skillet kit in my vintage 100 external frame pack, it may serve best for car camping, but as I travel with a 4 piece system anyway, I can justify it being in a ruck. Thanx 4 watching...bex

I like using the USGI mess kit. I can cook anything I want and always have a canteen cup with my canteen. I remember even once cooking bacon and pancakes in camp with it.

There are those who are very set in their ways, and change is difficult for them, but I am always open to new interpretations all the time. Came back from camp last weekend and someone was doing a fry up, it smelt great that was a deciding factor for me....lol

The only thing I am set in my ways is hexi, still my no 1 choice but I do use a jetboil and a pocket rocket. Pan wise tried titanium burnt everything, so like you I use a frying pan or my crusader mug only. The fold cups you use are great but I like a big drink hence still having the crusader which then can be multi use.

It is on the list, but as most of the episodes are pre-recorded, you may not see it till summer. The great thing about a car camping set up, is there are no rules or limits to the amount of luxury you can add to the ruck, as your not tabbing it too far....bex

Steak fry up in a mess tin - torturous clean up. SS tins same story. Ceramic base easy clean. Skillet is best for car camping, or for someone who can afford the space, due to to not over loading elsewhere in the pack, which I guess is about 98% of all hikers....lol Just give me a doss bag and a brew and I'm a happy bunny....

@@bexbugoutsurvivor ... stainless is easy enough to clean, but it discolors ... also noticed bacon discolors thé metal badly. I recently bought a non stick pan for camping at home bargains (hairy bikers small model) ... £6 ... but pan I’ve used, nothing sticks. There is a jetboil attachment that allows you to use pans or billy cans, it’s opened up all sorts of possibilities in cooking,

good vid bex, a point about pots and pans is how easy to clean. the wider the better. I usually go with a trangia 1.5 l pan and make the best of it no matter what I throw at it. and the reason I opted for it was partly its surface area, don't want expensive fuel heating the countryside when it can better be used captured under a wide pan.
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor Жыл бұрын
Some people may prefer to cook differently to your self, perhaps favouring freeze dried meals which only needs a small lightweight water boiler. The vessel in which to cook needs suitability to favour the style of cooking. You don't always need a sledge hammer to brake walnuts.

@@bexbugoutsurvivor well yea, but I wanted to hint at the benefits of a larger surface area of a larger pot/pan as much as anything else. mind you, thats why your one pot set up is a frying pan. I just picked a bigger pan as my one pot because I don't cook/fry eggs in it. more of a stew man myself.

2 mess tins vs Zebra billy can. Which one would you take?
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor Жыл бұрын
The right Zebra pot will make a great ground oven for roasting, as do mess tins, but as my mess tins are aluminium, I would probably opt for a 2 quart Zebra pale... There is a new monthly series starting called (Kit under £20--sh) and the Zebra pale is on that list.... My other 2 mess tins were stainless steel Dutch, but misplaced them some time ago, so am looking forward to doing a pot roast in a Billy Pale.....Thanx for watching
