Kudos to the one who recommended this to you. As someone who welled up in tears when he and his group got to the coda of their 40-plus-minute "The Hermit" live, I am always thrilled to know of a new RD listener. He is a true musical treasure for our world.

Richard Dawson is one of the most unique and incredible singer songwriters working today, I had the pleasure of seeing him do a solo set at a festival recently and he's an extremely intense performer but a super humble sweet guy. His sister albums Peasant and 2020 (one written from the perspectives of characters in the antiquity and one from characters in modernity as the titles imply) are both extremely moving and his attention to detail with his language and composition to distinguish the two and especially give Peasant an archaic feeling while keeping the stories and characters feeling human is insane. He also did a great collaboration album with the finish experimental prog band Circle that might be up your street. Would love to see you cover Ogre by him at some point!

Oh lord I love your channel and wow Richard Dawson is one of my absolute favorite artists ever. Every idiosyncrasy makes me love him more. My favorite song of his is Beggar, a devastatingly beautiful song about the struggles of a medieval beggar's life. The instrumentation on that album is much more expansive and atmospheric. Super intricate and cool sound.

Though I loved him at first listen, the tonality-neglecting passages in his songs are always a little eyebrow-raising. They can become some of the most emotional moments once they ear learns how to navigate them.

Keep doing Richard Dawson. Any song will do.

Saw Richard in concert back in 2019. He seems like one of the loveliest people on the planet.

Oh class, I came across your honest take on Autechre years ago and while I disagreed it left an impression. Thankful that you at least like Rich!

As a guitar player, I'm shocked with the mastery of the chord choices hidden behind the charade of random choice. It's very hard to be as confident and familiar with the clearly intentional chord composition at this level. - That's defo an EBOW at the end.

Agreed. I don't think I'd ever be this confident to play something like this, making the performance all that more impressive.

Fun side-note; you did Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs a while back, they and Richard are long-time collaborators and Sam from the band recorded & produced most of Richard's records (including this one iirc).

"I assume he's singing and playing at the same time... it's wild that he gets out of time with himself." I get out of time with myself every day. It's the only way i can get more than an hour or 2 of sleep at a time.

Richard Dawson and Circle is a must listen. Dawson is an abstract artist who knows how to paint in a traditional way, but chooses not too.

React to the hermit by richard dawson. Especially the music video for the song. The song is a massive sprawling piece of music that goes places for sure. Its slow but beautiful

As you are asking about his education: What I know is that he's said that he doesn't know chords and notes and stuff. It seems like he doesn't really write the music down but composes it in the manner of a non-written tradition.

Minimalist dissonance? About 5 minutes in I found myself thinking of Butoh dance - that experimental Japanese "dance of darkness" where elements of beauty just seem to happen as it's such a human thing. What a very strange, and very interesting composition.

When are you gonna react to Beneath The Hollow by Morbid Angel? It has some pretty interesting composition throughout it and sounds very different than the other MA song you reacted to.

Never heard of this person, but it reminds me a lot of Joanna Newsom's songwriting on Ys.
