Great, isnt it? Must say, I was a little disappointed with the first area. It was a fairly generic medieval fantasy setting. But once I got up into the northern and north Eastern parts of the map, with all the autumn trees and yellow skies, the windmills and the dancing witches, the volcano area with countless dead bodies hung by their ankles on either side of the road, and then the alien landscapes with red skies and red soil and the weird twisted trees, I was absolutely blown away. So vivid and unique and all just dripping with atmosphere. This game probably has some of the best environmental story telling in any soulsborne game so far. I did not explore much of anything, nor did I do much of anything. The only deviation I made was doing one cavern dungeon, and that was before I even met the "Firekeeper" (I forget what she is called in this one.) @steel58972 жыл бұрын
It took 6 years to make, and unlike most games that take that long it clearly had a very smooth and intense development process nonstop, unlike most of the industry where those 6 years would be comprised of 3 years of pre-production, 2 years of making a project they scrap later, and then 1 year of insane crunch to get it out. They made Dark Souls 3 in like 2 years, so they've always been extremely productive and efficient, then you can imagine what they could do with 6 years and this is the result. Godlike developers, honestly. Also keep in mind in many ways all of their games since Demon's could be seen as the actual pre-production of Elden Ring, they used *everything* they learned while making it. Idiots complain about "reused animations" without seeing the big picture of how this game even came to be in the first place. It's the culmination of over a decade of work.
@qwormuli772 жыл бұрын
@@steel5897 Oh, yeah, they've used a ton of assets from DS3, not to mention design. And by that, I mean a *TON.* But most of that is baked so well into the background that I'd bet a fresh player couldn't notice. To the people that _are_ in the know, it largely works as throwbacks and easter eggs. Besides, how many of us would actually want wasted dev time or less content for them to remake mundane animations or reskinning some entities? Besides a scant few 1-to-1 re-usages I dislike a bit (those Thralls had hoods for a reason, it fucking seems) most of it is completely negligible --And some of it straight up positive!

I accidentally skipped basically all of the content in Limgrave and fought the first major boss before even getting the whetstone or crafting kit. 24:26 - For those unfamiliar with GRRM's works, the Sword of the Morne is a reference to A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series Game of Thrones was based on. The sword itself looks like the iron throne (made up of many blades), and the "Sword of the Morning" is a very prominent sword and character in ASOIAF's lore. @retrocny56252 жыл бұрын
It's a nice theory but I'm almost positive the only Game of Thrones reference there is the Grafted sword itself. The castle being called "Morne" is most likely a Dark Souls 3 reference. In Dark Souls 3, Morne is an NPC. He's protecting another NPC named Irina, a character who can eventually become a firekeeper if the player does her quest-chain. In Elden Ring, the NPC character(Edgar)who presides over Castle Morne has a daughter, and her name is also Irina. I mean it could be both, but more than likely the castle name is just in reference to Morne from DS3, largely because of the Morne + Irina connection. Too much of a coincidence imo.
@GrayXephyr2 жыл бұрын
It's a lot more likely that the sword and castle are named after Morne, a name used in Dark Souls 3 (an NPC wears armor named Morne's Armor, but the NPC isn't named Morne lol). The sword could be a little nod to GRRM's contribution to the game. I think it's still unclear as to what exactly it was that he contributed? I saw someone say that GRRM created the initial worldbuilding, and then From's writers took what he made and wrote the end of it.

Unfortunately Edgar never realized that his Duty to an item of vengeance, the sword, would warp his sense of duty so much that he stayed in a fallen castle, already lost to the world, the sword already in the hands of the enemy, because a twisted power hungry king commanded him there, another dedication of duty. Duty to his king and home but not to his daughter. Too bad his arc of vengeance doesn't end with him ending his own life and destroying Morne or becoming an enlightened apostle ;) I also find it a shame that you can't give the grapes to Irina given that she's blind and given that you can get one from Edgar. Which is for maidens, which anyone who knows Dark Souls 3 know that Irina failed to become a Maiden and that firekeepers are blind. Were these the goals for Edgar for his daughter and unlike Eygon, he chose the duty to his land over his charge? I want to know if this is supposed to be an alternate reality or a separate point in time, perhaps after dark souls, and the Morne set found it's way here and became a castle of revenge as Vaati put it. Egyon does swear vengeance on you if you ever hurt Irina and he attacks you the moment he sees you at that point, just as Edgar swears vengeance for his daughter. Also, how she is almost identical to Irina of Carim. Both Irina's are blind. Both have people sworn to their protection (Eygon and Edgar) Eygon uses Morne's Greathammer and the Morne set. You meet her after the BRIDGE OF SACRIFICE where in DS3 she's just before the ROAD OF SACRIFICES that indeed has a bridge at the very end of it. Which makes me wonder if Farron keep has anything to do with Morne in general. Also, I wonder if they're a foil for the Ghru from the same area since they have similar tones to their skin and hair/fur? The creatures in the road of sacrifices, while they're corvians, they do sprout wings like the creatures in Morne castle. Also those creatures look similar to a death bird you can find outside Morne at night near the Erdtree, it drops a Sacrificial Axe.

It's in all the games so it's only natural that in alternate/same universes, the parallels would be drawn.

I like how you are giving this more of story feel to your playthrough. I love it! It makes me feel like I am listening to an audiobook. Are you going to be doing more Elden Ring playthroughs like this? Because if you are then I am definitely subscribing to this channel.

This was an incredible video. Please do more of these for the rest of the areas. Almost done with my second playthrough, and I did damn near everything in my first but still finding little gems throughout. I would love to watch/listen to more of your videos piecing together the storylines with the lore.

This game is amazing I've spent 42 hours in it and most of it has been just exploring all the caves and the overworld. I can't believe how well they managed to mesh open world exploration into the souls format on their first try. The game is so good it reminds of Breath of The Wild but it does so much more too it honestly feels overwhelming, but in a good way their is so much to do and see I can tell I'm gonna be playing this game for a long time.

Thank you so much for this take on an elden ring playthough. Focusing on the story, and going into the lore, is so fascinating. Other playthroughs and streams of the game are enjoyable, but this kind of... detailed weaving of the story, particularly with Weeping Peninusla, has been enjoyable. I hope you're enjoying the game, and look forwards to more lore coming from your journey.

Fun fact! After you unlock Lunaria as a playable area there’s a location to the west of that region called the Revenger’s Shack, when you reach there Irina’s father will fight you as an invader and if you kill him you’ll get a really strong banished knights halberd.

Hey Vaati, Just wanna say: Take the game at your own pace! I absolutely love your videos and such and it's awesome to watch you go through a place and find all the stuff I missed, and fill the area with lore I hadn't thought of. I think you're format actually works better as it is, rather then as a "Get it out first" style, as I personally don't want to have encounters spoiled and have a blind playthrough. Though I don't mind having the "tenured" adventurer such as yourself detail all the stuff I missed and will need to go back and see. Thanks for all your vids!

The sword Edgar was protecting was probably stolen from the demi fiends ancestors, if you read the description it says it was stolen. Maybe these demi fiends wanted it back. Maybe some long standing beef. Would also make sense because the demi human queen was slayed so it prob aggravated tension and created a division, even if the demi fiends were working for castle morne
@allthatisandeverwas2 жыл бұрын
I think the Demi-humans and the Misbegotten are separate races, but you might be on to something

wasn't the demi human queen the large thing chilling in the ruins in the weeping peninsula? she has the demi queen's staff
@allthatisandeverwas2 жыл бұрын
@@euclxd8033 pretty sure that’s her. I think the deal with the Grafted Blade is not that the sword itself was stolen, but that it’s made up of a bunch of swords that were stolen. Then again, the description says it belonged to “a lone surviving champion of a country now vanished,” so maybe that champion was Misbegotten and the founders of Castle Morne took it from him, and the Leonine Misbegotten took it back. Surprised he’s not actually wielding it when you fight him.
@euclxd80332 жыл бұрын
@@allthatisandeverwas My interpretation was that the entire situation in Castle Morne was only between the Misbegotten and the people running Castle Morne. The Demihumans were much more involved in Fort Haight I think.
@allthatisandeverwas2 жыл бұрын
@@euclxd8033 I think you’re right. It seems like the demihumans are the de facto underclass of the Lands Between, the queen’s staff description mentions that it was a gift to them from Raya Lucaria but that some of the nobles scoff at it. Doesn’t seem like they were involved in the uprising at Castle Morne, although they have a camp in the woods nearby and they do seem to be attempting a raid on that one watchtower. I’m curious as to how Kenneth was able to get them to congregate at Fort Haight without being torn to shreds, since they aggro at you on sight.

Fantastic start to the story coverage of Elden Ring. It feels appropriate to start small with the intimate, messy story of the Weeping Peninsula. We're only going to ramp up from here. I'm especially excited to see Vaati tackle the drama surrounding the various royal families of Radagon, Rennala, Marika, and Godfrey. It's a tangled web Miyazaki and GRRM have woven. Let's unravel a few mysteries.
@FelixS.2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well...I highly doubt GRRM has delivered anything of significance besides his name for marketing purposes^^ At least I couldn´t find any signs of his average writing within the first 20 hours, only the genius input from Miyazaki-San. ;)
