I play Ice in SV Monotype and my favorite mindgame is leading Ninetales against Water teams (despite the fact that Peliepper is slower and thus Drizzle triggers after Snow Warning) to bait them into thinking I've made a mistake and using U-Turn, then they get OHKO'd by Freeze-Dry and they no longer have a weather setter :)

Jokes apart, Scizor is borderline unkillable, taking a Bullet Punch isn't the hard part compared to trying to kill it, Bug teams are nigh unbeatable due to that little red demon (and Volcarona). Best way to kill it is to fish a Destiny Bond with Froslass or try to whittle it down with Sandslash and/or Mamoswine EQs. If I win against a Steel team then God himself disconnected my opponent's neurons because even when they don't try it's almost impossible. tl;dr why isn't Bug weak to Ice again??

@ I love my bugs and the scizor into mono matchup is just insane. They don’t need to be weak to ice though, my poor creatures have a tough enough matchup spread already!

@@penitente3337 Bug is already weak to a stiff breeze, a lit match, and a tossed pebble. That they're doing well at all is madness. I know little about the meta of monotype, but in general bugs don't need the additional beating of an ice weakness. Ice is already great offensively, and bug is generally a liability defensively. Scissor isn't powerful because it's a bug but despite being bug: it's powerful because it's Scissor. Same with Vulcarona.

In VGC, the metagame Gamefreak actually cares about, bug is the least represented type. Like top teams with a single bug type on them have always been the exception rather than the rule.

I remember that when restricted pokemon were made legal and a bunch of people on low ladder were running kyurem white in snow. It wasn't hard to deal with but one helping hand boosted choice specs boosted stab boosted tera ice boosted Blizzard coming off of a 170 SPATK and God starts to feel chills (get it?) in his spine.

Ninetales-a is definitely one of the most synergistically built Pokémon ever. It would really incredibly dangerous if it had a real special attack stat but as it stands, it’s great, just vulnerable to opposing weather since it’s the fastest weather setter, weak to rock and fire and doesn’t resist water. Grimm is technically a more reliable screen setter but it has way less board pressure than ninetales unless you run a hybrid support set.

I remember Nils Dunlop winning a regional event despite his corvidnight getting frozen by nine tales in two separate games during his set with the other finalist. That was a massive choke but Corvidknight is a solid answer to alolan ninetales so I not surprised that his opponent lost but it demonstrates Ninetales power and potential despite its loss.

honestly this pokemon was made for me. i'm a big fan of both ice elementals and foxes tbh though it helps that i have a very positive history with this mon. one time in sun and moon someone wonder traded to me some trained alolan ninetales with snow warning, and i wasn't much into competitive at the time but finding out about aurora veil made me use it a lot in stuff like random online battles on cart and battle facilities, and it was easily my most prized mon. sadly i went on to lose my copy of moon in a plane flight, and when i got ultra sun, i tried my damn hardest to recreate that ninetales to the best of my ability because it was a pokemon i cherished so much

I honestly prefer Alolan ninetales to have serene grace, doubles the chances of a secondary effect happening. And you can teach it freeze dry, moonblast, calm mind and frost breath.

Go guy here, but first alolan ninetales is an amazing hyper offense mon in any gen, honestly it's fantastic. Aloan ninetails has historically always been both highly viable but is generally a sleeper pick in the modern meta. However back before the great balance patch it was an absolute legend and got commemorated in many artwork and trailers for pokemon go even showing up in a lot of the promotional material for worlds 2023

Go guy: A-9 has had its ups and downs over the years. Currently it is outclassed as an ice type by Dewgong and a-sandslash, and it’s outclassed as a fairy type by wigglytuff.

109 speed and pretty much always available aurora veil make Ninetales-a a pokemon you can always consider(especially after snow changes) hell, i ran sun teams with it. Im sure rain teams can work too if not better. Maybe ninetales-a+scarf kyogre + pollen puff support (wo chien anyone?) Maybe not a super threat but blizzard does put pressure against alot of teams.

I remember Alolan Ninetales running Sheer Cold in Battle Stadium Singles, being a support mon that could delete stuff it normally shouldn't, and then it lost the move in gen 9. As much as I love Ninetales, I say good riddance to that!
