What a beautiful family! Thank you so much for your vlog. And for being real…I’m newly diagnosed (July 2022) and trying to learn everything possible. I have finally found “my ratio” required for an amazing cup of coffee without a roller coaster ride.

I just commented to you on your video from 5 years ago when you had an eye issue that luckily wasn't all that bad. It did cause you to get your eyes checked which was the right thing to do. Everyone, not just those with diabetes, should always get their eyes checked with any kind of eye issue. So since you did that video a lot has changed in your life. Your married now and have a daughter. So congratulations on both of those things. I'm sorry to hear you and your family have been dealing with sicknesses. That's never much even worse for your daughter. And of course the whole world went through a terrible pandemic and millions lost their lives to. So i guess we should all be glad were still here an doing pretty well. Having been an optician for 37 years I saw quite a few patients that were diabetics. in fact as you know optometrists are even able to determine if a patient has diabetes and even heart issues. I know I fitted lots and lots of diabetics with glasses which was due to there being diabetic. Considering that your now 33, happy belated birthday by the way, I'm really quite surprised that you apparently still have perfect vision and aren't wearing glasses by now. I know you seem to be someone that really takes care of her eyes as well as your diabetes. But somethings no matter how good you are, you just don't have any control of. Also I'm not sure if you were ever told this by your doctor, but approximately 50% of pregnancies effects the eyesight. The interesting thing is it only can result in nearsightedness and never farsightedness. Myopia, nearsightedness, is caused by the lengthening of the eyes. This can happen naturally, often during the pre-teen years due to growth spurts as well as pregnancy which as you know tends to stretch many parts of the body. So far you've done a wonderful job of avoiding having to wear glasses. Whatever your doing you need to tell everyone. Continue taking care of your eyes as well as your diabetes and have a great day.

@3:32 I LOVE strong coffee and I thought it might be the milk in a flat white that spiked me but apparently it’s the caffeine that releases adrenaline causing the Liver to release glycogen into the bloodstream that causes a spike in BG! Depressing eh?
@MichelleLord

Haha yes, that's so annoying that even coffee affects us!! Very interesting about the liver releasing glycogen though

@@MichelleLord I just wanted to know why my favourite coffee spiked my BG and knowing there’s less milk and more shots in a flat white I looked it up and yes coffee stimulates adrenaline release = Glycogen release from the Liver. Sad times… again!

So great to see you back on the channel. So sorry to hear of you and your families health problems and hope the tonsilitis resolved quickly. Your comment about prebolusing at the restaurant pointed out an ongoing dilemma for type 1s: when to bolus when eating out. Do you take a chance and prebolus and hope your food arrives in a timely manner or just wait and bolus when the food does arrive and risk going high? Been type 1 since January 2017 as a result of a pancreatectomy which left me without a functioning pancreas. Every day's a new challenge but having people like you sharing their experiences makes a difference.
@MichelleLord

Thank you so much 💜. Bolusing at a restaurant is such a dilemma! I've been on both sides, and neither are good situations to end up with. It's so tricky.

Yes, regular coffee spikes my sugar. So I switched to decaf which was better. Then I discovered that coffee creamers also spike my sugar so I only use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and that does the trick. Glad you are on the mend for spring.

My sugar definitely spikes with coffee as well. I have to generally calibrate for 10 extra carbs to level out the high spike! Happy birthday 🎉 sorry you guys got sick!

Hey Michelle. Could you please do a video and take us through exactly how you use the treadmill to lower your blood sugar. I’d like to have an alternative to corrections if I don’t want to venture out. Thanks, Luc.

So funny what you said about coffee. I’m the same, but ONLY if my blood sugar is already wonky or rising. If it’s lower or stable, coffee doesn’t bother me. Bodies are funny. Happy belated birthday! Hope you all are well again. 🎉

Happy birthday Michelle. I have a question for you about pumps. I am on pens and usuallu eat each 3 hours to avoid overlaping insulin and mess up with blood sugars. Do you usually eat with a considerate time in between meals, or is a pump more forgiving and you can still be in good range if you eat or drink something at any time?

Question please....Sometimes I get on my treadmill to lower my BS then after I'm off the treadmill for about 10 minutes or so it starts to go back up. Does your do that? Help. Thanks a bunch.

I've got a pretty interesting situation with drinks and blood sugar. My oldest brother (also type 1) has to bolus for coffee but not for beer. I'm the opposite, I need to bolus for beer but not coffee. I'm also into my second week at a new job at a coffee roaster and distributor, so kinda lucky I don't have to give insulin for coffee. Also, nice to see you upload again. I've got a 6 year old in kindergarten and a 3 year old in daycare. There's always some kind of bug working it's way through my family. Hope you guys are over everything now. If only Southern Ontario weather could make up its mind, that would definitely help.

So interesting about the beer vs coffee. I'm definitely more like your brother! I agree with the Southern Ontario weather!! All these fluctuations are not great for the viruses going around schools. I hope you and your family are staying healthy :)
