In the US, if you are healthy, you can work and have health insurance. Once you get sick, you lose the job, you lose the health insurance.

I got laid off in Germany. From the announcement to the actual layoff 3 years passed where we were still employed. After that everyone received a termination pay and is in a transfer company, not working but getting 80% of the old salary and after that we can be unemployed for 2 years where we receive 60% of the old salary. So in total 6 years with minimal financial loss where everyone should be able to find a new job. It's nice over here🥰

Girl! Preach about worker protections! The irony is that Google has to abide by EU standards when it comes to worker layoffs because they have stronger worker protections ! But in the US, they don’t because worker protections don’t exist. I think companies in the US are thinking that layoffs are going to scare workers to be more compliant but honestly, it’s just empowering workers to speak out ,as we seen with the Cloudfare AE recording her layoff, and jump to better opportunities when they present themselves.

@@Bukola1 Girl. Even though the current climate is crazy, I think people are not going to comply quietly. Even on LinkedIn, I notice that people are fighting back and calling out companies for their poor hiring and business practices like Boeing and Cloudfare.

@@Bukola1 Years ago,you did all these great interviews with people working in tech. I used to re-watch them over and over, because they were so beautifully cinematic, and all of you tech engineers seemed to live these incredible lives of achievement, brilliance, and excitement. And I knew, just *knew*,that as much as I admired all of you,I could never be one of you. But you,and Venecia, and Josh Makador, kept saying I could. So I completed the Google Cybersecurity certificate. I am studying for Security+. And I will be pursuing a MS in Cybersecurity in the fall. You are not alone in the struggle. And you.....will.....win.

Like you, I thought the tech layoffs and all of the other layoffs were going to be over soon but I am starting to think that is going to be our new norm in this country. Like you said, we have zero labor and employee protections in this country and being without health insurance is dangerous! I truly believe that this is going to force a lot of people to start thinking about how to make money outside of a 9 to 5 and really start collaborating with others. Problem is that is extremely hard to not support these corporations because they have such a huge platform and space in our daily lives. As a person who has been been laid off twice in less than a year, I no longer have the same relationship and loyalty to an employer. Bukola, your content is so inspiring because it lets us know that you can use your knowledge and skills learned in your professional career to advance in your entrepreneurial goals! Thank you for sharing!

I have been a software engineer for almost twenty years and developing for mobile since the first iPhone. I have deployed at least 10 or more apps for various companies. 1. You’ll get the hang of meeting all of the requirements for deploying to the App Store after your first few apps. 2. You will learn to appreciate Apple’s scrutiny, there are malicious ppl out there that look for vulnerabilities in apps to harm users. You don’t want to be writhing apology letters for your first app you put out 🤷🏽‍♂️.

Hang in there Bukola. Apple and Google enforce all kinds of restrictions and requirements that will stress you out. Compliance for App Devs is like a job by itself aside from the Core implementation. Please continue to stay on them and you should be able to force a response eventually. That $99 a year we pay them for our Apple Developer Accounts means they have to respond. It’s not volunteer work.👍🏾
