Nigerians are quick to say the NLC is asking for too much on behalf of the Nigerian workers. But the same Nigerians watch as the least political office of a ward councilor earns over 400k in salaries and allowances monthly for doing almost nothing. Let’s not even go higher to other political offices. The Nigerian workers are grossly underpaid.

100k is a SLAVE WAGE. It is a direct insult to all Nigerian workers. It is government's way of telling all Nigerians "we know you are starving, but you are fools who will accept anything".

When faced with challenges, leaders shouldn't make excuses or explain why those challenges can't be met. Their role is to brainstorm, find solutions, and figure out how to overcome these challenges. The National Labour Congress has proposed a new minimum wage. It’s not leadership’s job to say it’s too much. Instead, they should address the problem by asking, "How can we solve this issue?" It’s not just about money; it’s about addressing economic hardship. True leadership involves finding solutions, not dismissing demands as unreasonable. Claiming something is impossible is a sign of incompetence.

@RufaiUseni Do you know how much your senators are earning? N29.48million per month, which is still around 1/50th of the 615k that Labour is asking for. Tell me the unfairness in that demand. A Nigerian senator earns 265% of what an American senator is earning per month, you can make your research. And you ask the man not to compare us to America, when our politicians are even living larger than the American politicians, without a pity to the economic size. A Nigerian senator earn a hardship allowance, wardrobe allowance, furniture allowance, all these are aside their basic salaries, I mean, how is 615k too much for them to pay, if they can pay themselves more than the American politicians.

In 2014, with $1 = N154, a minimum wage of N19,800 would be equivalent to N192,855 today at $1 = N1500. Similarly, N30,000 in 2014 translates to N292,215 today, while N615,000 today matches N63,140 in 2014. The NLC strives to address the economic realities faced by workers, though it cannot control the currency's value.

I don't know why this is so difficult to understand NLC. Cut down on the cost of governance, use the money to pay workers and then demand productivity from the workers and economy will grow. This in turn will spill over in time to SME. Like the guy said in the interview, there is a law that detailed who fall into the category of paying the minimum wage. I stand with the NLC. Productivity brings wealth.

The simple issue is that people purchasing power is badly affected but not to the extent of 615k. I think between #100k-#150k is fine. The inflation has eroded people's purchasing power. The increase in purchasing power of people will change the reality and stimulate growth. The man is right here but 615k is not a reality. But labour should stay on the neck of thieves that steal our collective patrimony. The politicians are the bane of the country development. Social engineering is a way to go. Rufai you sre rude. Thats very disrespectful. Learn to keep quiet for a few seconds to give room for your guests. I respect you and understand your point of view but we have to listen to each other. Everything works together but our politicians will not allow things work. If we work together, the government giving an enabling environment for the businesses things will work. Your guest have a point and so you should pick out what he has because he's your guest. Lets stop attacking ourselves

Love rufai or hate him it’s a better of opinion. No employer especially in the private sector and manufacturing will pay 615 k with out passing this to the consumer as increase in price salaries are part of labour costs . Let’s not talk about the civil service which is not productive and Steve government who cannot even pay the current minimum wage . An America? No comparison we need to move away from that mindset

Nice question asking the comrade if he can pay his employee the +600k minimum wage? The private sector can't pay that much regardless of the claims of the comrade.

Nigerian government should step up to their responsibities by making policies that will be people oriented and the citizens should be organised as a pressure group to hold their community leaders responsible starting from ward counsilors.

Do not forget also that people who work are also breadwinners of their families who do not work. When a man or woman gets a job, just know that he or she will have to take care of not only his immediate family but extended families who will depend on him. So, you people should stop saying how many people are workers?

Here is a way out: labour accepts bare minimum (100k) for now, FG puts in place a periodic (semi-auto, if you will) upwards review, with a deliberate plan to meet a desired threshold in the next 10 to 15 years.

But BAT was the one who came up with the policies that caused the inflation in the first place? A bag of rice is 80k . Instead of BAT to fix refineries, he chose the divide and kill system with the state Governors. If he had no plans why did he involve himself in something he cannot manage.

The journalists in the video are acting as though they are authorities on the economy, which is incorrect as presenting leading questions is a task usually reserved for law enforcement, not the media. Who do they think they are to dictate the possibilities of the economy?

For me, I think gvt can approve the 615k and introduce minimum wage per hour. You get paid for the number of hours you work in a month and with a max of 40 hour per week. Rufai pls be calming down, that man has a deficiency and you are taking advantage of him. That's a punishable offense. You read history but he experience history. However, the discussion was informative and educative.
