I'm interested in the series _The Koren Tanakh of the Land of Israel,_ which employs this same translation. So far, Koren has released volumes for Exodus, Leviticus, and Samuel. They look like they could turn out to be a highly valuable resource akin to a Bible backgrounds commentary.

@@DiscipleDojo I think that the Stone Edition Chumash / Rubin editions of some of the books would be cool. They have commentary from some important rabbinical sources in both Hebrew and English. I understand if that’s getting a little bit too removed from Christianity, but the books themselves are physically really cool and have a proprietary translation. From what I’ve heard, it’s the translation preferred by Orthodox Jews in the US (Koren is the main one inside Israel). Those two and JPS seem to cover all of the major bases for English-language Jewish texts. Might be worth considering. Keep it up, man 🙏

JM, another home run. I do like a larger Hebrew font. Is there a Koren Hebrew only? How about the font size with Artscroll? Or since I have BHS perhaps I should stick to Logos and Accordance where I can change the font size myself? I am tempted to order the English Koren with all those study aids. Many thanks.
@DiscipleDojo

I'd say you can't go wrong with either, and they are available in standard and large print as well. If you already have a Hebrew text maybe go with the English only and see how you like it. I've never used Artscroll, so I can't compare them, I'm afraid.

In light of the current Eerdmans sale on Accordance right now, are there any select commentaries you recommend? Is the NIGTC Commentary on Revelation (1999) considered outdated (or any commentary before 2000)?

is there a bible in Hebrew hat has the texts in Aramaic. mean, the ones that are supposed to be so, like Daniel, etc?
@DiscipleDojo

All Hebrew Bibles do this, since Aramaic uses the same letters as Hebrew. So when you read through passages in Daniel, or Ezra/Nehemiah you are reading Aramaic. It just looks like normal Hebrew.

F.Y.I The Samech (ס) or the Peh (פ), have another meaning. They call in Hebrew Parasha S'gura for the Samech (ס) and Parasha P'tuha for the (פ). In Hebrew: Parasha P'tuha means "Open Case". Parasha S'gura means "Case Closed". Its has a deeper meaning, but i don't fully know the intricate and all the details.

5:05 Thesebkinds of Tanachs are not meant to be used by serious Orthodox usage. Your average Orthodox Jew would study the text using a Mikrot Gedolot which hosts severalndifferent classic commentaries. And if their Hebrew was lacking, then they would use an Artscroll with commentary.

@DiscipleDojo well if it's trying to do that with this project, then it's doing less than a piss poor job. I doubt you have ever seen a Mikrot Gedolot, but these Koren Tanachs don't hold a candle to them as far as study is concerned.

It'd be really cool to see someone do something similar with the Brit Chadashah, like a companion to this that makes it the whole Bible (Old & New Covenants) in Hebrew...or even a treatment of the Peshitta like this would be cool too.

What does the title even mean? What is an Israeli Bible? Jewish or Christian? The Jewish Bible is the Old Testament or more accurately the Tenach (from the initial letters of the 3 parts: Torah (5 books of Moses), Nevi'im (Prophets), Ketuvim (Writings).)
@DiscipleDojo

It's referring to Koren publishers, which is an Israeli publishing company, rather than one based in North America or Europe.

Very impressive review given that it is coming from a non-Jew. Seems to know his stuff. Well done! This is a good translation that is faithful to the actual Hebrew text. One should realise that the St James Bible is a superb translation which has stood the test of time. It is more than just a translation. The style, though by today's standards is stilted, it still has an edge over many more recent translations. It does suffer from the mistranslations that Christianity introduced to the Bible. Nevertheless, many Jewish translations have been based upon it.
