I know I may get crucified for saying this But I am going to anyway. Several of the items in that kit can be purchased for $1 at a dollar store & will be perfectly fine for a 72 hour bug out bag. 4 packs of alkaline batteries, safety glasses, items for first aid kit, gloves, glow sticks (may not be 12 hour but you get enough of them for $1 to easily last 12 hours), handkerchief's, hygiene kit items, safety glasses, dust masks, etc. For a short term bug out bag, Dollar Store items are fine (in my opinion) & have allowed me to put bags together for both my grown kids & a few of my friends very affordably.

Yeah I agree. Lots of this stuff is available at Walmart or the dollar store. The UST 3500 cal food bar is $5 at Walmart. I got some last year for 3 for $10 after camping season.

As a family man like yourself, I have to think about the wife and kids too, so I have some different needs as I need gear for more than one person (for instance, I would like a pump style water filtration to fill one or more canteens) However, it seems at that price, this would be worth it to buy as a starting point, then substitute or add to it as you need. This approach might save a lot of time without much of a cost premium.

BudgetBugout nice pack yep, for 300 dollars hmmmmmm, needs a better headlamp but if that's a mora knife good stuff. I like it lots. To much for a urban adventure though. I mean not in price would be worth every penny. Good stuff I'd recommend it, but I find it more fun building my own.

Add the nesting cup that go's with that canteen and the pouch. Make it worth it. As well as purified water tablets and now its a survival bag. As well as a starter camp bag. Take it one step further and put a light wait sleeping bag in it. But really all it needs is the nesting cup that gos the canteen. Why? Because you can boil water or cook or bake in it. Put a nesting cup with that jug.

Can get Mora companion for about $10. Bic lighters are close to $2 a piece. Also got my wingman for $20. Just gotta look around. $20-$25 is pretty common tho. I believe that pack is made by Fox tactical. I have a pack exactly like that from Fox Tactical at least. Take Care and Be Aware

Looks pretty well thought out. The only concern I have with such things is all of the cardboard and plastic packaging on the new items. You're well organized and everything fits while it's packaged, but then you're carrying around all that cardboard and shrink wrap... and when the packaging is removed, nothing really fits back where it came from... but then you do end up with a bunch of extra space, the packaging used to take up, I suppose.
@QarthCEO9 жыл бұрын
+betweenfiveandseven Oh, well, during a bugout you have plenty of time to just put everything back in the packages when you're done with them. ;)
@TheLateBoyScout9 жыл бұрын
+betweenfiveandseven Good point, and that's one thing I failed to emphasize. After buying this pack, one should definitely get familiar with the contents, and "prep" it all for emergency use.

The kit is a decent starter kit option, but the bag does not hold up to carrying weight. It is an upgraded version of a bag they used to offer national guard and reserve soldiers as a swag item for enlisting... I used it for a range/go bag and the single stitching piled the plastic impregnated fabric apart. But like it is a good basic starter kit... Btw that side pouch is a portfolio pouch good for full size documents

Some of the items are not what I would choose but the kit is much better then nothing for someone who doesn't have the time to put one together.

Really good video! It would be interesting to hear how you "value" each of these in terms of survival though. How important is the ceramic mug vs. the 3600 calorie food bar? What do you think you'd use in the first 12 hours vs. 48 hours. That kind of thing. I'm kind of surprised there's no rain poncho, bug spray or ace bandage. I'd hate to be outside for even two hours anywhere in the upper midwest or Canada without those things. Also, it seems odd not to have some kind of pain reliever in the medical kit but there may be regulatory issues with selling Advil and that kind of stuff. This sure brings up a lot of potentially good follow up videos. How would you convert this into a survival pack for various situations? What's missing? Signal mirror, compass, etc. How does making fire (food, water, etc) change based on the situation. For example, flying a single engine airplane in Canada. If you crash almost anywhere in the winter you need a fire or you're going to die before help can find you, BUT... you just crashed your airplane. Chances are you've got broken bones and many other injuries. This is NOT a time to channel your inner Boy Scout and try to use matches or "striker" style fire starters. Those methods assume you've still got two working hands. Add in cold temps and numb fingers and it highlights the need for a better solution than this pack has "off the shelf." In the case I described, it's time to pull out the fire starter sticks and the Bic Stick lighter. You get the idea. I think there are a lot of really interesting survival angles you could cover that would help people like me be more prepared and better informed. Thanks so much for these videos!

I would rather they dedicate that $25 from the radio to a better knife but overall this pack looks awesome. I thought it was gonna be a rip-off like most pre-packaged bags, where the total content cost is $100 and they charge you $250 but I was happily mistaken. Lookin into this.
@chrisjbrunson9 жыл бұрын
I think I would add some glove liners, a hat, some wet weather wear, a jacket, socks, a small container of gold bond, sunglasses, some pain meds (might be in the first aid kit?) some personal hygiene items and a few of those disposable toothbrushes (Colgate wisp) a Life Straw and instead of that plastic canteen, I would want one of stainless steel or aluminum or at least something I could use to heat water, some instant oatmeal packs /Mountain House freeze dried food, and a wash cloth. I am going to be putting more thought into this as my wife has a 35 mile commute, and we now live where we could have to do without power for a while.

The price of the pack seems ridiculous at first. However, many people will start picking up "bug out" items a few things at a time not all at once. So really the price isn't bad at all. The bag alone being $90 is not all that bad either, I've seen bags go for well over $150 just for an empty bag LOL. Great review, and a great item for someone who just wants a good base bug out bag and can easily add to it as well.

$350 for THAT? Effing ridiculous. I guess they need to charge extra to cover whatever they pay you to say it's a good price. These things are always at least DOUBLE what it would cost to assemble them from scratch. And doing that really doesn't take that much effort, because if you buy one pre-packed, you're going to need to pull everything out, figure out its function and how to use it, then re-pack it. Better to do your research, get good deals on the components, then assemble components you KNOW into your own bag.
@bobbyhempel15136 жыл бұрын
Too much money for what you get have to put that same bag together and get a better bag for less money put all the same stuff in it and probably spend around 90 bucks which is what the bag itself cost
