For sure! Adding the metric is very comfortable. As far as I am concerned, saying "just over X mm" is absolutely enough. Unless it's a bit of precision machining instructions - think about what you would use thousands of inches for...

I use silicon bronze quite a lot but only on steel. I think the way to go with it is to heat the base metal _through_ the silicon bronze. Start dipping ideally even before the base metal puddles. If it's too cold and balling up keep the arc on the blob you just dipped and kick the pedal briefly to make it sink in right. Then once you get going keep the heat on the puddle and dip lots of rod so you're never melting that base metal. Enough heat conducts through the puddle itself for it wet in.

I’ve seen other channels use silicone bronze on the pointy end, supposed to add conductivity and avoid arc burns at that location.
@BenLeBlanc14 жыл бұрын
Very cool to see you building a channel with limited resources! A quick note; I’ve gotten better results from pouring acetone on the cleaning surface than putting it on the rag and wiping. You end up transferring dirt from the rag to the workpiece if you have acetone on it first; whereas the acetone picks up debris and flows onto the paper towel if it’s dry.

Kool vid!! I wish I would of thought to use brass on my third hand...looks badass!!! Oh yeah...HF sells a 32oz liquid sprayer that you can fill with the acetone and then you just add 100 psi of air into into it to pressurize. It last quit awhile before you need to add air again. Very handy...I’ve been using mine for about 2 years now with no problems from acetone in it.

@@JustVoss Adding a silicon bronze facing to the tip of the third hand rod can help with grounding while tacking. Please continue to use SI (metric) measurements for length, temperature, gas flow rates, etc, as much as is practical in your videos. Hopefully other US-based content creaters will follow suit.

I'm American and I can go both ways with measurements. I prefer imperial (inches) as it's what I'm most familiar with and most machining done in the US, as well as weld consumables are measured this way. However it's easy enough to convert. Inches to mm = inch measurement x 25.4 (1in = 25.4mm). mm to in is just division mm measurement / 25.4 (25.4/25.4 = 1 inch).
@autodidacticartisan2 жыл бұрын
