10:33 To be fair, you could argue the 8th Doctor took the Eye to protect it and that's why its keyed to human features, bc there's usually a human he trusts on board (I think that was in a novel?). And you could argue the Doctor took the Eye either after Gallifrey died or just before he used the Moment which is why 11 had it.

Good point about how the Doctor really was a bit careless when he removed Rassilon but left no power structure to replace him. When has the Doctor leaving the Time Lords to figure things out on their own gone well? And especially when we've heard the Doctor talk about how dangerous and morally compromised the Time Lords as a whole became in the Time War. He doesn't ever blame Rassilon specifically for that. He only really blames Rassilon for the attempt to destroy Time itself in an attempt to win the war by sacrificing the rest of the universe and transcending to beings of consciousness alone. But on multiple occasions he references the Time Lords as a whole during the war in a negative light. Even other races make similar statements. The Fisher King said the Time Lords were vain curators who suddenly realised they had teeth, and became the most warlike race in the galaxy (and if the Fisher King knew about Time Lords he almost definitely knew of the Daleks and STILL claimed the Time Lords were the most warlike). I think an interesting arc would actually be for the Doctor to realise that the only way he can stop Gallifrey from continuing down its destructive path now that he has saved it (at the moment I'm ignoring Timeless Child and the Master blowing Gallifrey up again) is to stay. Instead of running off and being the madman in a box who just wants to explore the universe, he would realise that despite wanting to leave he HAS to stay. If he ever in good conscience wants to travel again and leave the Time Lords to their own devices, then first he needs to use everything he's learned from the rest of the universe to leave some sort of new power structure or cultural shift on Gallifrey. And that's just going to take time. So at least for a while, the Doctor needs to become the Lord President of Gallifrey, or if he refuses the title, he at least needs to remain in charge for a while. They could use a bit of a time skip to skip the day to day tedium of the Doctor reforming Gallifrey and focus on some of the bigger moments. Maybe they time skip, and then in the first episode of this arc show that the Doctor is slowly but surely making progress but is exhausted, and worries how much he is compromising his own ideals to make that progress, all the while the episode slowly introduces some sort of new threat. Also, an easy idea to work in is one the show already introduced and then abandoned. When the Doctor saved Gallifrey, he put it in stasis, freezing it in a single moment in time in a pocket universe. But when we see Gallifrey again in Hell Bent, it is unfrozen, and the Doctor is able to travel away from Gallifrey with Clara with no difficulty whatsoever. He does make an offhanded comment about Gallifrey having a different timezone they had to break free of in that stolen Tardis, but that's all. If they'd altered this a little, making it so they had to break free not of a timezone, but break through the barrier of Gallifrey's pocket universe in order to return to the main one. This way there's no contradiction to the time stasis. And as for the time stasis, place it in the Doctor's control. If he decides that for a while, he's going to rule Gallifrey and try to turn it into something that will endure and take a positive direction even without him (as he would have no intention of holding on to that power forever, unlike Rassilon or the Master), then he could make it very clear that if he believes Gallifrey's soul is beyond saving, he'll just let it freeze again. He would have been the one to lift the stasis and so he has the power to return it. No one suffer. No child would cry. No one would even die. But they would stop. That's his trump card to maintain control for as long as necessary, as there would be many he would refuse to answer to him even without Rassilon in play.

I would love to see Gallifrey return in the new era but under new leadership. I would have it be helmed by the survivors of The Master's wrath like Romana or hell a reformed Rani. Also I'd drop the large citadels and funny robes for a more Men In Black look, something akin to the TVA in Loki. This new Gallifrey would be hidden from the rest of the universe and can open up Time Lord threats like a vengeful Rassilon reuniting with Omega to take back his people.

My idea is that the Eye of Harmony WAS one single star that was in every TARDIS held together on Gallifrey AT ONE POINT. After its destruction in the Time War, The Doctor, being HIM, made his very own Eye of Harmony. This is why 10 had to occasionally "charge" the TARDIS in Cardiff and also why the 11th Doctor's Eye looks so different from the 8th Doctor's Eye. It's an entirely different Eye all together.

The idea of Rassilon being the only one able to save the Time Lords from the Master's wrath - as he sought revenge against the Time Lords and the Doctor (despite the fact that this spat on the Master's whole arc in Twelve's run) - would be an excellent way to reduce the character. In my opinion, the thing that actually makes the Doctor, the Master and Rassilon so effective at fighting each other when no one else can seem to compete is that they deep down are madmen consumed by darkness. The Doctor handles this condition best, helping others as a coping mechanism for the pain and sheer mental break he suffered in the Time War (imo he did snap during the Time War. He managed to become the Doctor again, to live up to the promise he made when he took the name Doctor, but he was never really the same). But ultimately he is very alike to the other two. It's also worth noting that Rassilon is by far the worst of the three morally, since the Doctor and the Master were driven insane by traumatic experiences (and both actually managed to largely recover even if they were deeply scarred). Rassilon just had a lust for power that he chose not to resist. We're all curious. And we all imagine what we could do with MORE. But in my opinion a large measure of a person's worth is what they choose to do when they have the means to indulge their worst impulses. Rassilon chose to indulge. He wasn't forced. He didn't transform into someone else in a desperate attempt at survival when his back was to the wall. He just decided he wanted power more than he cared about the consequences of wielding it. But ultimately, all three are not only extremely intelligent even by Time Lord standards, but they have incredible imaginations. And the darkness within them allows them to think of solutions others miss. The Doctor is so often a step behind the Master because he doesn't want to think like him. But at the same time, only the Doctor had enough darkness within to not only say "No more", but to burn all of Gallifrey to end the Time War. He couldn't have done it otherwise. The man who once was afraid to wipe out the Daleks in their infancy because he didn't know if he had the right would never have been capable of committing genocide against his own race. And you detail many of Rassilon's own horrific acts of imagination here. These three are the perfect candidates to foil each other in Doctor Who's Gallifreyan stories. So Rassilon regaining power is the perfect way to introduce survivors from the Master supposedly destroying Gallifrey again.

God that was a good episode. Honestly I think we can blame the doctor. 12 came in, toppled the government and then buggered off. That's a recipe for disaster. There'd be power struggles, civil war with all these factions vying for power and just begging for the master to come in and finish the job

Maybe to the general rassilon seemed like a good man when they freed him to be their president in the time war. Like you said they forgot about his problems and brought back the best and brightest minds. So they thought he was a good bright man who helped them survive the war. But as time passed he did more and more atrocities and peor saw he was wrong and evil.

The Doctor's power vacuum is what I've been saying since I saw Gallifrey's most recent destruction. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Master was lying about destroying Gallifrey. It's completely plausible that when he revealed the Timeless Child thing, the precarious political situation quickly devolved into a massive civil war and the Time Lords nuked themselves.

I don't think the Dr has unlimited regeneration and here's my argument why. the timelords erased the drs memory and turned them back into a child and the division tried to bury the whole timeless child stuff from the rest of timelord society probably due to the potential backlash and it may even have been a serious criminal offence caused so they had every reason to erase the drs mind and re set their life. However simply re setting the drs life isn't enough as eventually hitting the 13th life had the Dr had a 14th 15th etc people would start questioning why they have exceeded the limit without reason and the Dr would question it also. So the only way to avoid this would be to cap the drs ability to regenerate to 12 like everyone else in the hope they would just live out those 13 lives and die like everyone else. Further evidence is that the 11th Dr was definite about being on his last life later before regenerating he tells Clara he could feel the rengeration starting so the fact 11 when actually dying of old age prior could not sense any form of regeneration ability that suggest there is none. Then the timelords give him a new set and only then can he regenerate.

You raise an interesiting point. I try not to question it to be honest. The canon surrounding the doctor and how many lives they have are tied in so many knots at this point its best not to try and make sense of the madness. Otherwise I'll start pulling at threads and questioning why there are 3 different Atlantic's that end in 3 different ways, why did the 1st doctor make illusions to being a human from the future who built the tardis? I have a very soft approach to canon in this show. Would be fun to make a video on this though
