For anybody interested, I moved from 22.04 LTS because I wanted more powerful Gaming options and overclocking in 22.04 was impossible for me. I waited a few weeks until bugs or issues had stack exchange answers and did a fresh install. Very glad I did, games are faster, the OS / desktop it's self is more responsive, it looks and feels nicer and just seems faster at everything. It's not perfect and you will almost certainly run into the odd issue but none of them are deal breaking. I was able to immediately use Nvidia X screen settings to add GPU-clock and memory offsets which was just not possible from the LTS.

Good vid! I read Snaps are getting faster and that the Firefox Snap now starts super fast and in some cases even faster than a native install? That said, I like the direction Ubuntu is heading. Another thing that most ppl don't cover is how Ubuntu ships with a lot of premium features ootb, such as their own vsynced triple buffering patches, which makes Ubuntu a buttery smooth 60+ fps experience even on low-end devices (like on MacOS, Android and iOS). Ubuntu going the extra mile again, and I like it. Without this work, we would still be having a stuttery, low fps and sluggish triple A Gnome desktop in the year 2040 whereas even the smallest hand sized mobile devices were able to address this topic eons ago. So for what's it's worth, well done, Ubuntu.

This must be the only positive video about the lobster on the internet only because its on VM. LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE, that actualy installed that bloody mess is ripping canonical a new hole. Its absolutely disguisting state. On my very own machine that is one of the very few distros that in recent memory failed even to get to login screen, with ryzen 3700x and rx6800 32gig of ram this abomination reads ramfs then everything goes black including the power to usb peripherials. ZFS that they have oh so advertised in previous release as the best thing since sliced bread is now missing and upgrading from kudu results in strange zfs unreadable partitions being mounted to the taskbar, and system is stuck to kernel 5.19 because the 6.2 it tries to update to crashes with "missing amdgpu something something" errors, which is strange because it should be able to use the open driver to a 3 year old gpu. On personal note, can we please acknowledge that the place for most beautiful art and wallpapers = deviantart exist, hundreds of other wallpaper library type websites also exist so can we please not give a credit for the borderline 0 effort that is bundling few images please? This is already a meme at this point. literally nobody is going to have a wallpaper as make or break for using an operating system.

Hello, let me share my experience with this version. I was quite surprised by the new installer, it finally doesn't look like a copy of various Ubuntu derivatives (of course all ubuntu based derivatives, heh). The first impression was quite good, at times even surprising what a leap Canonical made, the response, the wi-fi connected to the network beautifully quickly. What I wasn't surprised by, but expected, were the problems. Already during a live session, it happened to me that the system stopped responding and threw an error message (which is strange, since the OS is not yet installed). Another thing that stumped me is booting. It gave me a Hash -13 error message when loading. I don't know why, but it seems to me that main branches have worse stability than derivatives.

Interesting. "Learn Linux TV" had a lot of negatives to say about 23.04 - specifically a lot of visual bugs and crashes. He said he had to try installing 3 times before it finally went through without an issue. And that the new installer doesn't allow you to choose ZFS but the classic installer does. He said a lot of the features advertised for 23.04 like kernel and app updates should automatically become available to prior versions anyway, or should be very easy to install, and that bascially Gnome 44 was the only real difference. Thoughts?

I'm happy to see Ubuntu releases look good, I have used it on and off for 18ish years so it's good to see them still putting out a quality product. Personally I haven't used it in the last few years due to the Fedora releases being so good, and i'm disappointed on their seeming war on flatpak (yes it's hyperbolic I know) but it's good to know that their newer releases don't have any major performance issue and the polish is good.

That's why I watch DT so often: he is able to form and express an independent opinion. Bravo. So many Linux youtubers (+ a sizable part of the community) are part of a distro-hating bubble, or feel compelled to condemn some distro for other reasons.. Ubuntu has often been one of the victims. They couldn't do anything right for _many_ years.. And once they abandoned something - Unity for instance - that was also the wrong way. The new bashing candidate is called Manjaro, and just like Ubuntu, that makes me a little sad.
@TVPInterpolation
@TVPInterpolation Жыл бұрын
To be fair, manjaro has more issues than their distro alone. Having certs expired over 5 times now, and giving users the workaround „just change the clock lol“ isn’t a nice way to manage things. This, and due to how manjaro is built, you effectively have a much worse experience with AUR packages, to the point that it can easily let your system stop working. I’m pretty sure that Ubuntu just got better again *because* people complained, yet they still do things many user dislike (for example, not allowing official flavors to ship flatpak *but* they must ship snap), which I feel is an odd decision, which can get reversed. That the „Ubuntu store“ also doesn’t allow installing flatpaks even after installing it, is odd, and to do that from a graphical interface, you gotta have 2 stores. In short: yes, Ubuntu is getting better again, yet the company behind it still has very odd decisions.

I'm very tempted to try this out. I just bought an old refurbished computer and wanted to turn it into a server, so I tried installing the latest Ubuntu server variation, but I kept getting errors. Switched to openmediavault, but it takes the entire hard drive space on installation, and wouldn't allow me to boot a Gparted iso. Then I grabbed my USB with Mint on it, figuring I could run gparted off that. It seemed to work, but when I rebooted in openmediavault - no partitions. Not sure why the Mint iso loaded but the gparted iso wouldn't. Ended up fully installing Mint, and now I'm trying to set that up as a server. May have to see if I can do that with Lunar Lobster instead.

Using XFCE so not that bothered by the Gnome changes. If 23.04 can handle suspend properly I'll be happy, as 22.10 cannot.

4.5 gig file is huge with having only a few packages. Maybe that is why the memory usage was up there too. The new Mint Debian-5-cinnamon file is only 2 gig. Showing between 400 and 500mb memory usage on mine. Less than half of the memory used shown on Htop in this video.

On vmware, I am experiencing screen overlapping, or when I click to close a window, it still shows open event hough it is actually closed. Is there a way to fix it?

loving it. my only problem is the dorky new file picker always starts in your home directory. that's more annoying than the tile view. I want the old one back where I get a big preview of the selected item in the list. and totem throws error that "GStreamer element vaapipostproc is required..." though I'm sure they'll fix that soon.

11:04 Stop trying to click. Just use arrow keys on keyboard. Right, down, etc then [Enter] to see desired folder.

yes, but probably will not be so faster. Maybe a light distro such as Linux Mint Xfce Edition runs faster than Ubuntu.
